I used to prefer Honda over any other brand, but I tend to buy used and used Fords are such great value even if they might need a few extra repairs over the years. Plus, Ford has generally surpassed Honda in the important-to-me fun-to-drive factor. My question is: I didn't have this issue before I took the car for oil leak and after it got fixed It came out with different problem which cooling system for the hybrid. Could it be a wire or something they forgot to connect back that is making the pump not to function right or the pump itself is not working? The code reader read the same like yours.

Just did my 2006 escape hybrid. The pump looks like it was changed once before. I didn't see a ground wire that you attach to the pump bolt. Where does the ground wire go to. Thank you for all the great videos

Hey I just changed the mecp on my 08 hybrid mariner. The ground wire strap that connects to it was severed. I only see a small section of it attached to the mecp. I want to buy a new grounds wire strap but I don't know where the other end should connect to. Can you advise where it should go?

Having the dreaded triangle of death "stop safely now" issue on my 2010 FEH. I thought ford fixed this Mecs pump issue by updating pump and havig it run continuously? Throwing codes related to inverter temp P0A3C P0A3E P0A7C (drive motor "A" inverter over temp, generator inverter over temp, motor electronics over temp). Have you seen issues like this on post- '08 FEHs? Also getting the "wrench" dash indicator B1139/B1600 (invalid transmitter ID code, PAT'S ignition key transponder signal not received) which happened same time as the other CELs. Appreciate any help. And, it's mine. Looks like the ABS pump and master cylinder have been changed based upon the worm clamps on the low pressure lines (vs. the factory squeeze clamps), which is my biggest fear on this vehicle. Still no clue why the ABS pump must pressurize the brake system every single time a door is opened, but factory manuals are on the way and suspect that question will be solved. Wish you were in Florida - would gladly pay you for your time to reflash it to current code and run an OASIS report on it. Thanks again for these excellent videos! - Frank

I just had mine replaced on my 2008 Mariner. It has 52,400 miles on it. Vehicle shut down on the highway during rush hour traffic on Wed, Oct 29th. A light came on and wording on the dash said to stop now and pull over safely. My wife was driving and when we were able to get over to the shoulder. I did a quick search on my phone and found the recall. We took to dealership the same evening. They told me they were instructed by Ford not to fix unless they could verify it was actually malfunctioning. After my persistence finally on Monday Oct 3rd at 3:51 pm the dealership called me and told me they were able to pull the codes and they just ordered the part but parts were back ordered. Dealership called me at 11:46 am on Tuesday Nov 4th telling me it was fixed and ready to go. Seems like they could of had it fixed in a much shorter time frame judging by this video. Furthermore, this video was made prior to the recall. I still haven't received a letter from Ford about the recall.

I just replaced the thermostat in my 2007 ford escape hybrid. First question, when I replace the coolant am I simply replacing the coolant in both of the clear containers? I didn't see a radiator cap, so if there is one please let me know where it is. A picture would be great. Second question, what's the easiest way to bleed the coolant, without any special tools preferably.

The front coolant bottle is for the engine, the rear should still be filled. Here is the bleed procedure. Add the correct engine coolant mixture to the degas bottle until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL marks. Recommended coolant concentration is 50/50 ethylene glycol to distilled water. Maximum coolant concentration is 60/40 for cold weather areas. Minimum coolant concentration is 40/60 for warm weather areas. Select the maximum heater temperature and blower motor speed settings. Position the control to discharge air at vents in the instrument panel. Start the engine and allow to idle. While engine is idling, feel for hot air at vents. NOTICE: If air discharge remains cool and engine coolant temperature gauge does not move, engine coolant level is low in engine and must be filled. Stop engine, allow to cool and fill cooling system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the engine. Start the engine and allow to idle until normal operating temperature is reached. Hot air should discharge from vents. The engine coolant temperature gauge should maintain a stabilized reading in the middle of the NORMAL range and the upper radiator hose should feel hot to the touch. Shut the engine OFF and allow to cool. Check the engine for coolant leaks. Check the engine coolant level in degas bottle and fill as necessary

Yep that is the official instructions. The biggest thing to check for is heat at the vents especially at idle because that is the highest point and where air likes to get trapped.

Thought I helped someone out, my 2008 escape hybrid was turning off while driving after so much headaches and cursing lol I found the solution, 1. Cleaned out tb really good , 2 replaced the small electric water pump that cools off the electric system. Once I got it running good I sold it 👍🏼.. say goodbye to headaches lol

@@AlChilazoLife I've put a lot of love into this truck. Valve cover gasket, new plugs and boots, at least 1 ignition coil. New compressor and evaporator. The code was for the battery fans. The truck would run but wouldn't go into EV mode ( running on the high voltage battery) or use the battery assist once the battery reached 100F. So I got a few minutes of battery usage in the morning but none in the afternoon since it never cooled off while parked. I went through several scan tools and the only one that would read the BCM ( and actually tell me it was the fans) was Forscan. Download that on your phone and get the Bluetooth OBD2 dongle they recommend. I had one for my Mazda but the clones can't access all the control modules and that limits the software capabilities. One important thing about the FEH is that the cabin HVAC system also cools the battery. There is also a filter for the battery in the back on the driver's side behind a panel. This has to be changed once a year or so to keep dust out of the battery compartment. Leaving all this here as the worst thing was trying to research and diagnose the issues. I hope this info helps someone else.

I have checked the VIN on ford website and it shows 0 recalls, but when I run VIN check on research.com no recalls on cooling have been done.

The pump fails because the original one has shitty brushes and they stick once they get worn. If you are in the middle of nowhere you can crawl under there and hit it with something firmly but not overly hard and it will break the brushes free. You may be able to even take it apart and replace the brushes, but I didn't look into doing that on mine. I just replaced it. It is incredibly easy and Ford's charge to do it is basically a scam price.

Can anyone tell me where the MECS coolant temperature sensor is located? I get the P0A7C code, but all mechanical items and reservoir levels are good. Suspect a bad MECS temp. sensor, but not sure where it is. I know about the one at the top of the cylinder head, but that one checks out fine as my engine temp. is steady at 185 degrees. Thanks.

I recently received a letter regarding this recall. When I called my local dealership they said it would take a day and a half to fix it, and a half a day to ascertain if I had a pump that was part of the recall. What's up with that? It doesn't look like a day and a half job.

Outstanding series of videos. I just purchased a 2006 Escape Hybrid for a first time driver... these videos are a great piece of maintenance reference for a Shadetree mechanic. Can you suggest any preventative repairs I should make? Current mileage is 93k. The vehicle was from a local County and was under a 3k mile PM schedule. Aside from the battery cooling actuator, the list of repairs didn't involve anything major.

Almost sounds like the mate of the 06 Escape Hybrid i bought, also from a county. Other than the outer tie rod replacements that i did, it's been without any issues. The complex ABS pump scares me though - it goes and might as well total the vehicle.

Update - just got my Electronics coolant pump replaced under Ford recall. New unit is a lot smaller, brushless and magnetically coupled shaft from my understanding - a much better pump!

Changed the mecs pump in my fusion and after vacuum bleeding or filling the system I still get the same codes and the car cuts out. Took it to ford 2 different dealerships and they tell me everything is fine. Can’t drive the car on the highway at all otherwise it cuts out

@@missiongirl100 so after all that. The only code I get now is the inverter over temperature then it triggers the car to shut off. I have not gotten around to drain the coolant system and disco the high voltage battery then take the inverter out and try to see what’s wrong with it. So time will tell hopefully this weekend coming up I will be able to do that. Keep you posted!

I have a 2009 mariner hybrid. My hybrid battery seems to run hot lately (it’s also been in the 90s outside lately) with no dash lights but it won’t go into ev mode and only stays using the gas engine whiles the battery is hot. I check the batterys fans and then work. I also check the MECS pump and it’s seems to be working aswell (I can hear and feel it vibrate) however I don’t feel liquid going through the hose but I do see the fluid in coolant Reservoir moving. Any ideas of what could be going on? I did get a new MECS pump to replace the old one if it just stops working after driving for a while.

i have 2009 escape hybrid 2.5L , A/C condenser was bad and the radiator got busted while getting the condenser off , any way got new condenser /new radiator replaced first do i have to bleed system since i had new radiator put on ? second i charged the A/C but while i am charging it A/C compressor did not come on , car start shaking really bad, then i got the message saying safely stop now , car won't start again could you help me out i have codes when i put it on the scanner are p0a1f battery energy control module / p1a1b brake system control module- forced engine running , can some one help me out to get my car running again . Yes you need to bleed the 2.5l a certain way or you will never get the air out vacuum filled is the way to go truly. Is the service plug in the trunk still in the service position? The first code indicates internal problems with the high voltage battery sensor internal and the other code you gave did not come up.

Anyone heard about THIS SAME problem with even OLDER models??? Mine is a 2003 Escape & after enduring at least a MONTH of RECORD heat, the computer seemed to DIE Just like described with the 2005+ Escapes. Once it cooled off, started just fine. The MECS pump is a component of Hybrid ONLY Escapes. Since the first year of the Escape Hybrid was 2005, your 03 is a gasoline only model and does not have this pump.
