Hi Guys.
A very common problem with Ford Escapes where their rear trailing arm bushings completely wear out. Although rear trailing arms is removable but are not available anywhere and neither are the bushings.
Well I found a solution and I wanted to share it with you guys. I've seen a lot of Ford escapes with the same problem and I'm pretty sure a lot of you have gotten ridiculous quotes from Ford or repair shops for a complete rear knuckle.
I dont blame the repair shops because they cant find parts and the only part available is the complete knuckle from the dealer or used knuckle.
I have successfully done this on many ford escape and have found this to be the best and cheapest solution.
I hope this helps every one.
Thank you again for watching.
Please like and also subscribe.
Enjoy.

I just had my 2019 Ford Escape to West Herr Ford for an inspection. They noticed that my rear knuckle bushings were worn and had to be replaced. Everything was still covered under warranty and the crew treated us very well. Your video was helpful for me to understand what they would be doing. Thankyou.

Time was when you could get all the individual parts needed to re build any assembly, but now, you have to buy a complete new unit......at an astronomical cost 🤴 That's a good solution you have shown there TK. Thanks,

Holy cow this was a frustrating video to watch! Finally got the bushing in place but not without a lot of fumbling about. The long and short of it appears to be that you need to get an aftermarket Mazda Tribute trailing arm bushing from Moog and press it in with a hydraulic press. Skip to the 15 minute mark to see how it is done and save your self a lot of aggravation.

This is awesome, thank you! I have a '17 Escape with just a little over 48,000 miles and both bushings are shot, one is almost completely gone. My local Ford dealership wants almost $2,800 parts and labor to replace both knuckle assemblies because they says it's a "non-serviceable" bushing with no aftermarket options. Everything about the situation screamed BS and your video proves it. Now I just need to find an independent shop that can do this work. Thanks again!!!

@@goon1524 I ended up taking it to an independent shop, they were able to do exactly what TK The Tech did, remove the trailing arm, cut out the old bushing and pressed new ones in. Took a couple hours and they changed me about $450 parts and labor. So far everything is great!

@@tgbgndz7790 Well, it wasn't *totally* the dealerships vault. At the time the only OEM option from Ford was to purchase the entire knuckle/control arm assembly, which was both very expensive (almost $900 each if I recall) and very time consuming to replace. This was stupid though because the control arm is clearly (and easily) removable and they sell just the control arm with bushings already pressed for other vehicles in their portfolio that use very similar suspension, the Focus for example, for a much more reasonable price. However, its seems Ford has finally came to their senses because I noticed recently that they now sell the control arm with bushings as its own part for the Escape.

@@gg750 The Ford dealership where I purchased my 2017 Escape just got us with this problem. My wife just brought it in for an oil change & inspection. I verified it wasn't BS with a few YT videos and then tried to figure out if he was over-charging. A little over $700 for everything (both bushings, oil change, inspection). I guess that's acceptable after seeing what others were quoted.

Thx for a great Video. If the Ford Technician told me "Rear Lateral Links" at 4.0 shop hours plus parts, is he talking about this rear control arm? The guys that did the wheel alignment did not say anything about the rear control arms.

I have a 2019 escape and it has 45,000 kms. Brought it in for service today and told them I get some vibration sometimes and not sure if it’s transmission related. They ended up replacing these under warranty and the girl told me it would have cost cover $3000. Cannot believe it for a vehicle with not many miles. What are the symptoms? My vehicle had a slight shudder at certain speeds that almost felt like it could be in the transmission. I think I will get rid of this vehicle after another year as it will probably become a money pit after warranty is up. Crazy that you could pop out the bushings with your hand like that. It should be a Ford safety recall.

Hi I am sorry I work flat rate and we only get paid to do the job. The fact that we already saved the customer about 500 CAD already. Now trust me if I had the time I would have painted the control arm and installed new bolts and even greased the front and rear suspension but as a flat rate tech we are already on such time constraints that esthetics is least of our concern. To be honest i have never had any symptoms. Its just that in Canada according to safety standards all bushings have to be intact not torn. So almost every ford escape that I certify I found these bushings bad. I would think if they are trailing arm bushings. It would only cause noise during braking.

my guess at looking at the mass of the mounting tabs on those bushings. The Mazda car weighs less. The Ford has to support more weight. Ford isn't going to take liability for a part that was not designed to support the weight difference. If a car owner wants to assume the risk that's on them. Sure is a lot cheaper, but not sure I'd risk my family's safety.
