ford escape water pump pulley - pulley (cam pulley)

this is how i set up a harmonic balancer puller to remove a water pump drive pulley from the camshaft of a 2004 ford escape, and a brief description of what i did to reinstall it. i did not want to buy a tool i would use once or twice so i set out to find an easy way. I found some one had done something like this on a forum so i decided to try it. it worked so well i wanted to post this so anyone who needed to get this done can do it at minimal cost. i did have the engine removed but it can be done with engine installed in vehicle, i recommend you make space to work, some times a little extra work makes a job way easier. good luck and have fun

Thanks for the video, nice job... Question... Mentioning the PCV Short vs Long. Some 3.0 Duratec Escape model/years came with PCV located in the Engine Valley - the short PCV, while the one in this video had the PCV located in the Valve Cover - the long version. On my 05, 3.0 Escape I assumed there is not any difference and replaced my long PCV, located in the valve cover, with a short PCV. . . Those with the short PCV can't fit the long PCV due to clearance issue. Does anyone know if there's a "functional performance difference" between the long & short PCV ? Thanks again

Nice to see a vid of how to use the a universal harmonic balance type puller for the water pump pulley. It’s the exact same method I used minus the spacers. I’m not one for pics or videos myself but I had put up a description in a Ford Escape forum a while back. Maybe you ran across it? Not taking credit because the video is way more useful but, from one diyer to another, nice job and keep it up!

For the camshaft oil seal retainer, is there a bearing in there? If there is, is it possible to remove without affecting the camshaft or removing the valve cover? I'm having what sounds like a bearing failure (small metal balls or sheet metal rapidly hitting other metal) noise coming from that area and the pulley seems to have a little play in it, but I could be wrong as I haven't had enough time to really watch it. I was just told it's not the water pump and that the shop didn't hear anything at all which is odd given how loud it is. Seems to lessen when it warms up but still there. Doesn't sound like any engine knock i've ever heard so I think it's safe to rule that out. Almost like a sharper heat shield rattle like subarus get, but definitely top of the engine on that side.

What is the name for the pulley because I’ve tired ever different way to try to get the right part I just can not seem to fine the camshaft pulley part of the Walter pump pulley this is for a 2000 ford svt contour if anyone knows or can help me out let know please and thank you

Great video dude, this is probably tomorrow's project so I'm curious. What size grade 8 bolts did you use there? Looks like 5/16 or 3/8? Any idea what length they were? I guess I gotta hit up Tractor Supply lol. Side note, I am probably going to make yet another adapter to use a Harbor Freight 96718 hydraulic electrical box knockout punch tool to press the pulley back on, personally, just because I already have it and I've made adapters to do a few other things like this. (For example pressing 5th gear back onto an NV4500 transmission and putting lug studs in an E350, both videos are on my channel.) Cheap tools you adapt or fabricate instead of buying from OTC/Snapon always win! Love it

Hey there I can't remember 100% I'm definitely leaning towards. There were 3/8 inch bolts To hold the puller onto the pulley

The pulley bends really easily. I checked the Ford dealer and a new pulley was less than $20, so I didn’t try too hard to save it. I used a Ford power steering pulley installer to press it back on..

Wow thanks for the video I have some oil weeping out and I want to fix this.. And FORD SUCKS If they would've just re thought about how they attached this they could literally did it with 1 bolts and a Location Dowell. And not even press fit it..

I have a question.....did you install the new seal with the cam retainer on or off the head? I would think you would remove the retainer, press out old seal, install new seal, then reinstall the retainer onto the block. Great video, thanks for sharing! It is definitely going to help me. I just need to replace that seal, too.

If the retainer seal are leaking then you need to remove it. I have done both when you order the cam seal it should come as a kit with the seal for the retainer

The 2000-4 or so, 3.0 DOHC water pump, easy to replace, NO PULLEY REMOVAL needed!! Just the small pump only!!!! Ford put pump to the side, with same belt, small hand adjustable tensioner. EASY!!!!! Ford made it rougher on later year engines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know de Wey brudda not very hard especially if you remove the engine and when you're removing it the best thing to do is get rid of all the catalytic converters remove the 4 by 4 transfer case remove the front drive belt and pulleys

Anibal Amezquita I always hear dohc engines are complicated and hard to rebuild. Mine is just fwd so it doesn’t have a transfer case. It’s at 230,000 miles.

The best thing to do is just to get a Haynes manual or chiltons and go through it thoroughly it's not very hard if you take things apart and organize yourself I use a system called bag and tag which means I put every bolt that comes out gets put into a bag and then I write what it's for if something is critical as far as order for putting it back together I take pictures of it if you keep yourself organized everything should be pretty easy one very important thing is you remove the oil pan to reseal it or the lower block girdle be sure that the bolts go back in the exact order they come out because some bolts are different lengths and it can crack the block if you put them in the wrong spot
