Ford Explorer 2015: How to release stuck seat latch

With the seat in the forward position (just like it is in the video), pull the side release lever until you hear a click. That should allow you to push the seat back down into its seated position.

I figured that you have to pull the lever to move the seat forward that same one but a little harder until it finally makes a little unclip sound but you have to make sure the seat is all the way up like you had it already but for me I just had to pul the lever a bit further with a bit of extra force hope you’ve figured it out!

Hooooraay !!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you !! With the seat all the way up, I pulled the lever without any extra force and the latch released. I was able to fix the seat back in its position.. and am able to fold and put it back as normal. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your suggestion. 🙏🙏

Haha ! First time , I actually tried many times with more force, but for some reason it didn’t work. It worked today with just a normal pull. Maybe the jam released a bit over these many days ! 😀

I figured it out, I'll make a video later but I took a flat head screw driver and pressed down on this in the groove to engage the latch.

Had same issue. Pushing extra hard the seat down would not fix issue. Don't have to remove assembly as shown in some videos. Simple fix. Just insert flathead screwdriver underneath the stuck latch. It should fit perfectly. Simply push the flathead toward the seat and the latch will release.

I found an easy way to get the latch to release without any tools or forcing the lever (which didn't work for me as far as I was willing to force it). Fold the seat down so the latch is sitting on top of the anchor it latches to. Put your hand on the seat directly above where the latch is, and push down with moderate pressure. It will take more than a nudge, but you don't need to put all of your weight on it either. You should hear it release and then you're good to go. This works on my 2017 Explorer.
