You are a bold man. There is no way on God’s green earth that I would have attempted this installation without you doing it first, and thankfully doing a great job of documenting your actions. Cheers.

Excellent video, especially the part about routing the cable away from the airbag. Only took me 1 hour to install the cable to my rear camera on a 2016 F-150 Super Crew. Thanks.

Very nice job! I appreciate how you used an existing power port instead of wiring into the fuse box. Definitely something I am going to look at for my 2021 F150 truck.

DANGER!!! Before attempting any work near or past an AirBag, you should remove the red wire (+) from the battery for at least 15 minutes to ensure electrical safety to prevent potential AirBag deployment. Also, Amazon sells dongles that connect to almost all powered rear view mirrors so you can easily power your Dashcam from the RV mirror! (How do you know if your rearview mirror is powered? Easy, does it auto dim at night? Then yes, powered!) Owner of 2019 F150 SPORT You can also quite easily run either/or switched/accessory power from under your hood to all the way back to either side of the rear of the bed! I’ve installed both simply by using fuse jumpers from under the hood (and 14ga wire for the run). I ran mine to 2x Marine 12v connectors on both sides of the rear inside bed. I also have a cab high shell on mine. 😊

Ding! This is an EXCELLENT instructional video. Many KZbinrs could benefit from your example. Thanks. Also, do you have any recommendations about how to wire a rear-facing camera in the rear window of the F-150?

Very good video. going to try to go to fuse panel so my camera has constant power for the most part!

That’s a good start. You removed a lot of trim. I would’ve pulled the passenger seat up and got underneath the carpet with your cable to where it doesn’t interfere with the seat brackets, then got in the console.

Keep in mind you loose parking mode completely by powering the camera via USB as shown. It’s very simple to use the fuse taps included in the hardwire kit at the fuse panel. This was all the work of a proper hardwire installation with none of the benefits. Pulling the trim and hiding wires is the hardest part.

Yea I don't get bypassing the fuse box and like you said you lose a major benefit of these cameras

you can also go under the center console I found that out when I lost a credit card down the side of the console and only found it because I slid the seat all the way back and found it barely sticking out on the passenger side of the console.

Did your camera flicker or get a white screen? I don’t know if it’s the cables or just the adapter that doesn’t give it enough power

My camera working properly. Can you try take off the camera and use a different power source? This will help determine if the issue is your power source or the camera itself

Great video. I like this approach. “Santa” got me the very same camera for my 17 F150. Is there an issue with the cigarette lighter power supply? I heard that they don’t power off for up to an hour after the truck is shut off. I don’t want anything to be drawing the battery.
@DingsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I didn’t notice about the lighter port having power for that long after turning off the car.
@DingsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Also, the camera has an internal battery that should keep it running for sometime after turning off the truck.

I tested my 12v plug in the console. It stays hot for up to an hour. I wasn’t comfortable with that. I ran the wires the same way you did but with a couple changes. I ran the wire under the front floor mat and between the seat and console. I have 2 USB ports in the back side of the console that never get used. When I removed the cup holder and rear console cover it occurred to me that could just pull out one the the USB’s and let them hang inside the cover. I simply plugged the power cord into the loose USB. I tide up the remaining wire with a zip tie and just left it in the open space. Put everything back together. Only visible wire you can see is near the camera itself. Everything else is 100 % hidden.

I wired my can to the same spot in the center console but that plug works independent of the car ignition which means my camera was on 24/7. This is on a 2022 F150 :(
@DingsWorkshop Жыл бұрын
I think I read somewhere that the center console stays powered for about 1 hour? 24/7 sounds very strange!
@johnniebkid Жыл бұрын
Your camera does not stay on 24/7. It has to be hard wired to the fuse panel in the 32 slot.
@simsinghgillmoga27 күн бұрын
You have a powered mirror and you could have bought a dongle with a usb port and powered the camera with a 2 inch cable instead of 18 feet right from the rear view mirror where the camera is intalled

Why not jus tap into the connector on the rear view instead of running a wire throughout the truck? Black wire is power, green is ground. Automatically powers on and off with the truck.
@maseratijim Жыл бұрын
Good idea! Just have to make sure you use a 12Volt to 5 Volt USB converter adapter for the connection to the camera. Otherwise you have a mismatch on voltage, and the camera may not have an internal voltage converter.
@HolidayIsland4 ай бұрын
They actually have a Y cable for the F150 if you have auto dimming mirrors like yours and everything is connected in the cover behind the mirror. Sadly my F150 XLT does not have the auto dimming mirror nor the harness hidden for it to be able to use and I had to run a hardwire kit (I also don't have the center console with additional USB's)

SOME TECHNICIAN will install to the ACC directly connected to the fuse box UNDER steering wheel, which is more stable power supply than the lighter plug.
