I drive a '97 F-150 with 200,000 miles on it. My interior, except the sagging headliner, is still in great shape. It's very comfortable. I've made multiple 1,000 mile trips to see family in it. The 4.6 still runs great and all accessories still function properly. I am having an issue with the transmission shift lever not engaging in park properly and the body is beginning to rust a lot. Over all, it's a much better truck than the two Dodges I previously owned. I will definitely purchase another Ford truck in the future.

Bought my truck brand new in July 2002 F150 XLT 4x4 super cab and currently has 397k on it with same engine and transmission. All I’ve done is basic oil changes and tuneup every 100k also had muffler shop put flow master dual exhaust and K&N air filter. Truck stills runs great and recently had compression checked at Ford dealership and came back with 181 pounds of pressure mechanic couldn’t believe engine was still in great condition but I take good care of all my vehicles and use nothing but synthetic oil and OEM equipment. The 10th gen really is bulletproof, the only big problems are not that bad as they are easy fixes, issue include the rear window leaking, egr/dpfe issues, at worst the intake manifold may crack at 200,000 miles but for $250 u can buy a dorman manifold and install it urself in abour 3hrs or less. If u buy one do urself a favor and get rid of that massive restrictive muffler, replace the spark plugs and put antisieze on em, upper control arms usually at 150k or worse, and get seat covers, the leather interior models get tuff with age. Also get better headlights the halogens are laughable at night. Cold air intake,tune and exhaust and im getting about 20mph on the highway, 17 in the city, but im running stock size tires and factory rake on the 5.4 supercrew

My 2001 is a work truck for summer because heater core went out. My 1997 is my favorite. More comfortable and much power with the 4.6 instead of 4.2. Both super crew. The 1997 only had one side that opened on passenger side. Both auto trans. Both trucks are very reliable. Agree on interior though. You're right. Could be better. Those same mechanics all said the same thing that it was Ford's worst engine ever made. Some of them when I called said I should never spend the money to replace the engine as it is a terrible engine until I told them it's the 2003 2valve. And there is no holes/ evidence where a trim badge would've been if someone had taken them off in the past. Very strange. It has an AM/FM radio w/ cassette player, power doors and windows, manual cloth seats, A/C, and a sliding rear window. I want to say it's an XLT, but it's always been my understanding XLT comes with a leather wrapped steering wheel, mine does not. If theres any ford experts here, I want some opinions on what trim it is. It's an old construction truck, so I'm guess maybe it was a custom order from the factory or something.

@@johnjerizlopezignacio3891 Depends on the type of truck you get. The shortest is at 79" and the longest is at 97". (Regular Cab Lengths which are gonna have the biggest Beds) The SuperCrew Cab comes in at 67". SuperCrew is the one with 4 doors similar to a sedan. I know this is a little late but I still hope its useful.

I had a 97 4.6 and I absolutely despised it. The towing performance was pitiful and nothing about the truck held up well. Sold it and never looked back. I'm not a Ford hater either. I had an 87 5.0 that was a great truck. Towed great and was reliable. I had more trouble out of the 97 in 140k than I did the 87 at 260k.

@@fundamentalBaptist1711 The 4x4 models are safer because the front end is stronger with the front axle and driveshaft. It's also higher off the ground so whatever you hit the bumper and frame will absorb the impact more and the body won't absorb as much.

I like these trucks, the one thing that I hate though are the aluminum heads, I'd rather pay more in gas with cast iron heads than to save a little money with aluminum. I also hate that the spark plugs can shoot out, that's because there's not enough threads on the head and it's aluminum!! Otherwise this truck would seem almost perfect in my opinion.

I just bought an 03 F150 4x4 supercrew. It had a total drive train replacement 45,000 miles ago. (new engine, New transmission and transfer case, also new and upgraded read end which upgraded the towing capacity to 10,000 lbs. It has the paperwork to prove this, it also has the metal stamp on the engine and frame from the Ford dealership with the date and new serial number of the engine. Should I be worried about the spark plug issue on this truck? or did they have this pretty much sorted out by 03?
@stringslider2 жыл бұрын
@@fundamentalBaptist1711 Unless you have upgraded heads, it's still a possibility. Main thing is to make sure the plugs are exactly torqued to spec.
