Thank you for this video. I recently got a code po705 .. the truck shifts fine and was told it had a recent trans rebuild. The shift Indicator has always been off a little since i got the 99 f350 months ago. I checked yesterday and it's not going into low 1 or wateva the very last gear is. I'm very glad i seen this video before potential problems occurred. Do you think that's why it threw that fault code? Thank you I'm subscribing and sharing!!

If your column shifter is really tight, you probably have an extruded oring in your DTR sensor causing that. You can see what I mean in my DTR Test and Evaluation video. Otherwise, this video shows what to check for sloppy column shifter and misadjustment.

That shifter can be replaced to get it tight. The pot metal on yhe end wears and make it loose..also the shifter pack that bolts to the outside of trans can go bad and not allow full movement, and also can cause a no start. They wear out.

I think I understand, but I will ask you some short questions that will be easy to translate. When in 2wd: 1) Does the truck move forward when in "D"? 2) Does the truck move forward when in "1" and 2"? 3) Does the truck move backwards when in "R"? When in 4wd: 1) Does the truck move forward when in "D"? 2) Does the truck move forward when in "1" and 2"? 3) Does the truck move backwards when in "R"?

Sounds like a problem with your transfer case. There is a shift fork inside, and either it is not being actuated properly, or it is worn out and not engaging the drive. The speed codes your computer is giving you are probably because the transmission output sensor is detecting motion, but the rear axle speed sensor is not. This means the transmission is turning, but the transfer case is not. I would start by taking a look at the transfer case.

I believe i had my trans. cable bushing clip fall off of my 4r100 transmission (under truck actual manual lever) 6 years ago and i just put it back on while it was in park (not in neutral like you said). Is this why ive never been able to get my dash gear indicator perfect ever since ?

It's possible. I would start by replacing the plastic lock, and then resetting it. It may work fine locking it while in Park, but the benefit of doing it while in Neutral is that you split the margin for error in either direction. The Park detent can be rather loose and sloppy, and by setting it in Park, you push all your margin for error towards Manual 1, which might put it out of whack. I would also check the hairline cable that drives the orange indicator and make sure it is in good order and looped/routed correctly.

Unrelated question about the 4r100, is there a pressure sensor in the transmission? I am having issues with my PTO not staying engaged on a 2001 F550

No built-in pressure sensor, you'd have to hook up a gauge to the pressure port on the driver side. The clutches inside your PTO unit might need to be replaced. But don't forget, you also need 1200RPM, TC lockup, and coast apply to enable the PTO. There are a lot of issues that could inhibit any one of those three requirements!

Hello, Great video! I have a question I am hoping you can help with. I checked everything you mentioned. I purchased a 1996 f250 7.3 that won't go into first care unless I disconnect the shifter cable. It looks seems like the shifter cable is too short and won't give me enough throw to reach first gear. I've ordered both lengths from the parts store and neither one worked correctly. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Roger

Thank you! Disconnect the shift cable at the trans again. If you can't manually move the shift arm (on the side of the trans) through all the PRND21 positions, then there is a problem inside the case, either a bent detent or the manual valve is not engaged properly by the internal linkage. You'd have to drop the pan to investigate those parts and get that squared away. If everything is fine with the shift arm, then move on... With the shift cable still unhooked from the trans, check to see if your column shifter will move through all the PRND21 positions. If it doesn't, you've got an issue in the steering column. Check the bushings and the parts that screw onto the end of the steering column where the cable hooks up. Check all that stuff either way because it might only be a problem when there is resistance.

Mine gets stuck in park and causes no crank no start. if i put the key in accesory 1 i can put it in neutral and then itll start up. Steering column is good and tight now that i fixed the bushings up.

If it starts in Neutral but not Park, it might just be your DTR needing adjustment or replaced. Get under there with a flashlight and check those thin hash marks for alignment.

@@blackshepherdauto I actually tried replacing it. I disconnected it and manually shifted to park with big pliers then hooked it back up with the column in park... Adjustment didn't really move at all. Wondering if it's either the ignition switch or a relay somewhere... Either that or that transmission is half broken and won't physically let me shift it all the way into park. It was slipping bad shifting all jerky then I dumped seafoam trans treatment in there and it smoothed it out to almost perfect. But maybe some dirt broke loose in there or something.
