completely unnecessary to change out the hpop reservoir, it's literally only 5% of the total oil volume, and gets recycled just as well as the rest of the engine oil. it's a myth that oil sludge builds up there, unless the truck has been sitting for years on end. plus you're already leaving over 2 dirty quarts in the heads, that extra .75qt in the reservoir is negligible. just change the oil regularly and your engine and components will be happy for a long time.

I agree Its not necessary at all. I just like to do it because its easy for me and doesn’t take much time at all. To me, removing 1 qt of old oil makes a big difference. I think its worth it so I will continue to do it like I always have. It may not be necessary but it is better for the injectors to get pure fresh oil on the next start up cycle rather than a diluted mixture. To each their own.
