Install a Fumoto drain plug valve to direct that oil into a jug with a hose. An oil filter punch with hose can do the same. TEMPEST AA473 Oil Filter Drain Tool Then you can avoid taking a bath in hot motor oil. I don't bother running the engine first. I just let it drain for an hour.

It would have been helpful if you mentioned the wrench size for the drain plug.
