BA have the switch under the pump. Very easy to get to. Those hub caps are also BA, not AU. Fluid makes sense, however the O rings are garbage on the switch too. Most Falcons I've seen had red even high km cabs.
@michaellast13853 жыл бұрын
If its red its wrong. Proper fluid for these is clear and its the same fluid used in Honda's

This is not as easy from the top on dedicated LPG or dual fuel AU Falcons. I had to do it from underneath with wheel removed. The broken spanner is the best way and probably only way to do it quickly.

Would castrol power steering fluid be an issue? Been using it for a bit and it seems to run pretty quiet

@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs8 ай бұрын
I Used a Repco Fuel Miser switch as it was on special for $12. I subsequently discovered why the Switch repeatedly fails in a later video and haven't changed it since 2019.Its failure is due to the Rubber Seals in the Pump going hard and failing to seal the pump creating a vacuum inside the steering pump fluid chamber.

When this part fails does it make the steering go stiff?
@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs Жыл бұрын
yep because all your fluid leaks out. check your fluid level in the reservoir.

@@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs well when I turn my steering wheel while in gear, the vehicle nearly stalls, could that be because of this switch?
@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs Жыл бұрын
@@lukenikolajew9119 yes the switch is no longer functional. When you turn the steering wheel the switch is supposed to go click from the hydraulic pressure and the idle is supposed to increase
@froggdudarko4369 Жыл бұрын
And ur probably right because just before I overpaid for my au it had a new sensor put in and it's already cactus it had red fluid in it ... Not sure if because it was cross threaded would cause leaking again

Yay Kids 25/12/2019 and my switch replaced in this video has failed again. The "FUEL MISER" brand Switches appear to be complete piles of shit. Going to spend the extra and buy a Genuine ford Motorcraft switch and see how long it lasts.

That's no good on Chrissy. How long did you get out of it mate?
@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs4 жыл бұрын
@@rickymurray2768 I ended up using another "Fuel Miser" one from Repco as they were on sale for $11.00 just after christmas. FORD wanted $148.00 for a genuine one! I figured even if I had to replace it every 10 months that was still cheaper than once every 10 years.

Mate it’s a size 15 for the tool. I just cut a 14 but it won’t fit
@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs5 жыл бұрын
My spanner said 14 but as you can see from the video mine was heavily rusted out. Obviously its advisable to buy your new rack switch and test the spanner your going to cut against it to make sure the tool fits.Good luck.
@Bobman845 жыл бұрын
I just did this today and it is 14mm. Some 14mm spanners won't fit because they're too thick or cheap brands. Some of my own 14mm didn't fit, but the quality ones did or try 9/16".

This is an absolute bastard of a job. I tried so many different things but ended up taking it to a mechanic.
@grayson753 жыл бұрын
Mine was a pain to remove, there was lock tight on the thread. I used a 14mm spanner, cut down to 1/4 size and grinded the edges to make spanner thinner and less round. Also multi grips were needed to help get it off. The new one was a pain to get on, I used lick tight to help seal it. I use Ford power steering fluid, 424 I think.

Thats great! The whole point of the video though is to point out in the cars user manual it specifies Mobil 424 fluid. Something I and you ignored for years and once I started using Mobil 424 the pump went completely silent the switch failed less often and the car over all was quieter and smoother to drive but hey good job man.

I notice the oil 424 wasnt power steering fluid specific. ...
@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs5 жыл бұрын
Yes 424 is recommended for falcons you'll notice the pump stop whining straight away and your engine bay is significantly quieter. Most labeled bottles "power steering fluids" are just dextron transmission fluid and red in colour and make the pump whine loudly.
