160mph off the showroom floor in that era is beyond impressive. In U.S.we had the 1970 Dodge Coronet Superbee that could do 146mph.Other than that I dont think we produced a factory car this fast available to the public.I love this Falcon and sounds beautiful when hammered down.

I worked at a garage during the 80s that serviced and tuned the green one, it had a roll cage and the seats had cloth inserts that were white with racing stripes, that's all I remember about it other than the sound it made, 4d xa, it was very tall in the gears.

This car sold for 2 million $$$ at auction not that long ago, a real piece of Australian car history 👍.

@@jimmartin9704 According to the original owner of the car in question, a Mr Keith Lea( who worked at McLeod Ford in Sydney), the car came with a roll cage, aluminum sheeting fitted to the parcel shelf, a winged sump, and 12 slot wheels, and was pretty much a standard XAGT. So when it left the ford team at lot 6, it was not like the current owner is stating. If you can find issue 8 of Australian Muscle car magazine, the full letter from Keith Lea is in there.

@@daniellebcooper7160 I can remember Reading an article on the three red falcons saying that when they got the word in early June to stop work all three were in different stages of competition Moffs was the most advanced and i thinks that's the one Bowden has Gibson's was the next and the last one was the spare , still only works GTs but not HoS

'Prototype race car'????? Try standard XAGT. The older these cars get, the more BS gets added to their story. This is a word for word copy of a letter written by the original owner of this very car. Its from issue 8 of Australian Muscle Car: Muscle Mail page 37 ‘My name is Keith Lea. I managed the McLeod Ford smash shop from1970-1974. During this period I took the opportunity to purchase the Phase Four ‘’XA-3’’ now owned by Paul Carthew, through McLeod Ford and directly off Ford Special Vehicles(FSV). I was the first owner of this vehicle. To clear up a matter of conflict, when the car arrived at McLeod Ford from FSV, it had a roll cage, standard 12-slot wheels, aluminum sheeting in the boot and parcel tray, 36-gallon tank, finned drum rear brakes with a 9-inch diff, winged sump, Phase Three sway bar, heavy duty tailshaft and top loader (gearbox), which was of my opinion a close ratio. Other than that, it was an XAGT. The car as delivered from FSV was not a race vehicle. For that matter it was not a road vehicle. It needed to have the front grille, driving lights, chrome and indicators fitted. The entire car needed its bolted on panels fitted correctly. To race the car in the 1972 Hardie-Ferodo it would have needed serious sorting out. It was a very long way off being a factory race car. This car came off the assembly line in 1972. I believe (Paul Carthew) purchased the car recently?. A lot has happened in that period of time. It is not the same car that left FSV. Whatever has happened in the last 30 odd years I can’t be sure. Either way it is a special car, enjoy it’.

I have to say that the article had no basis for that claim of being too fast for the road.... The fearmongering took precedence over common sense

400 hp yet it has stock leads, so why people go out to buy 8mm leads i dont know, when stock leads can carry just as much ohm and spark, sure the dizzy and coil pack would be better as a upgrade to get more hp, but its about selling cars before bathurst 500 to then race them over the weekend?

The tyres are original so you wouldn't put too much stress on them. I guess they could have put different wheels on it for the day.
