Great racing. That HQ was set up real nice. The drivers skills are awesome. Nice pass under brakes. Pulled away in all the right places, leaving the XY too far behind for the straights to be of any help. The winner in this case though, was the full noise Cleveland singing its song. Long live the V8!

Great to see the Holden boys making a race. This video shows just how hard the XY was to drive. It wasn't so easy getting the thing into top at high speed. Going over the crests was like a hovercraft, driver hanging on and trying to feel what the car is going to do, it can even come down to a changing crosswind. Stepping out on the corners, well you just had to try and judge it, tire wear and temp, versus track grip and camber. This driver did very well to bring it home. Got a little over excited on the first lap, then managed to pull himself back together and get it under control. I think this portrays what it must of been like racing one of these things in the early seventies. The XA's were a lot more steamlined and had a slightly wider wheel track, resulting in a vastly more controllable car at high speed. Even flat out in the XA you could steer the thing and put it where you want. In the XY you would just pray to try and keep it on the black stuff.

@Aussie Pom - Sadly, you are correct. This culture cancelling virus that is spreading around the world is not only a concern but a complete nonsense. The left leaning lunatics and activists have no real interest in changing humanity for the better. They are more concerned with pushing their own dangerous political agendas by demanding that the silent majority conform under the disguise of "virtue signalling" social reforms that are designed to destroy our culture and identity. I have absolutely no idea how "injustice" can be impacted by the demands that are currently being complied with. For example, apparently chess is now a racist game because the white pawn has the first move? We, the silent majority must not allow this madness to continue. Yes, equality and equity for all is not in question but they way these radical groups are trying to effect change is absurd.

Are you talking about the balls here Mark? All I can say is... Big hand! 😄. I remember as a kid (30+years ago) seeing racing from Bathurst on telly over here in the UK. Better than what we had. Commentators were tons more entertaining too. Check out our historic racing from Goodwood we've got now tho. Lots of different eras. Historic Ferarris, E-Types, minis, mustangs, Galaxy, old F1, vintage and even bikes.
@bigal3055 Жыл бұрын
@simontromans2748 Second that. Not that many years ago, I was watching the Aussie V8 Supercars on some road circuit. The commentators were raving about some chap who was climbing through the field and ticking off places faster than they could keep up when the camera jumped back to him. At one point, I had to engage Sky+ (as it was then) and rewind 30 seconds just to make sure I'd heard what I thought I'd heard... which I had. Out of the blue, one of the commentators very excitedly announced that "He's made up another xx places on that last lap! By the end of the next lap, we'll be seeing this cunt catching the lead pack!" That wasn't the end of it though. His commentary partner interjected with something along the lines of "Yeah, but we need to remember that he's carrying extra ballast with his huge penis, mate!" Can't quite imagine Martin Brundle and David Croft having the same sort of exchange.

RIP to all the Aussie manufacturers. When we lost them all, we lost all the toolmakers, investment casters, plastic manufacturers, lights, etc etc etc, thousands and thousands of people lost their jobs, Australia lost a solid industry. Didn’t need to happen.
@mikldude93766 ай бұрын
Yes , very sad indeed mate , back in the 70`s i worked in the motor industry at a couple of ford dealerships and a holden dealership , as each year our stupid politicians made it harder for local car makers to be profitable to the point that car makers from over seas could make them and ship them over at often cheaper prices , a very sad record , that every car maker in Australia over the decades and we had quite a few either left for greener pastures or went bankrupt . And one of the things that many people do not understand is the car industry supported and gave jobs to a whole range of workers from skilled to low skilled , and in the early years when they where still doing well , a lot of employees had jobs for life , paid off their houses , put their kids through school . And this work particiapation gives everyone a fair go to better themselves , the crime rate was very low , but now the country is a shit show . These days , politicians who themselves are perked up and on easy street , do not see value in workers unless they are of the high skilled variety . But in life that is not how humans operate , schools turn out tradesmen , office workers , a percentage of jumbo jet pilots , rocket scientists , teachers , and a decent percentage of people who will probably always be in the lesser skilled range for most of their lives , and these salt of the earth people that work hard their whole lives , strive to do good for their familys , and these people keep the gears of the economy turning , the mums and dads these days do it much harder i think , a lot more working poor , and not working , as a lot of the industry we once had an abundance of is just gone . textiles and other manufacturing we once had a lot of , mostly gone due to government policy favouring imports , i could go on . Much of the old good things we had that made Australia the lucky country , are just gone , and we have buffoons running the country . At least listening to the XY brings back some old good memories :). i remember as a young bloke on the north side of Melbourne , there used to be warm GT`s and monaros everywhere , and the old Vals too , i had a mate that had a warm V8 valiant , he used to go to the wreckers and buy 10 diffs at a time :) , fun times .

I love how it plays out just like it always did on the mountain. Holden giving Ford the good ol face dusting then see ya later. Shows how the skill gets watered down over time to. Don't get me wrong... Murph and all those later icons are mad drivers but that was skill at its finest. The feel you have to get in tune with between your car and the road not to mention braking distances and pushing it to that fine point just before lock up then off the pedal within that split second. They tuned that into there own heart rate and senses and were in tune to the T. In a way the driver was the computer that kicked everything in the right timing to keep it planted and in that perfect line to get those vital split seconds. You really had to push your mind body and soul in those days to win a race... It was earnt 10 fold by pure skill. You'd really feel that tyre choice to and you'd know really quick if youve chose the right set of shoes. Can defintly see how Brocky and Larry made it look like a pleasure cruise in the later years with the VN's and such.... That skil you honed in them earlier cars would make you feel like you can push so much more in then later models.
