Thanks, very helpful, even with the manual at hand. Is this job doable without removing the alternator? I prefer to leave things in place when I can, especially on older cars where bolts may have gotten crusty. How to ensure the right aftermarket thermostat housing, other than buying straight from Ford (which comes incomplete I read above?). On part supplier websites I get many different types.

does the replacement thermostart come with both gasket seals?
@HaynesManuals2 жыл бұрын
I think so, but best to check with a parts supplier
@StuMunro2 жыл бұрын
@@HaynesManuals Purchased the thermostat from Ford. Sadly it does not come with the heater port seal. Pretty daft you don't get all the parts to complete the replacement as would be crazy not to replace both seals after the effort of draining it down.

I replaced my thermostat with an aftermarket one in an attempt to solve overheating that started after a garage replaced my thermostat as part of a service. Because this thermostat goes on the lower radiator hose it occured to me that the jiggle pin air valve might be backwards, leaving the system unable to clear an air lock. Coolant normally flows from the spring to the face of a thermostat but in this engine it is the reverse. I removed the pin, leaving a small hole. The overheating was solved.
