Ford Focus 2005 (Mark 2) Radio Removal / Installation

Ford Focus 2005 Mk2 Radio Installation / Replacement. In this video I show how to remove the old radio (In this case a 6000cd), and install a new radio (Sony), with a working steering wheel stalk. Please note, this is not professional advice, only documenting what has worked for me and what I learnt in the process of doing this for myself.
Equipment:
- Double Din mounting plate
- Fascia if installing a single din
radio
- PC5-120 Keys for removal
- PC99-X50 (Allows Stalk to work, this is needed for all radios)
- PC99-SON (For Sony radios, also is required to allow stalk to work), this could be another cable depending on manufacturer.
- Microphone if your radio requires
it for Bluetooth

I think he put keys in wrong way, and yes, you need 4 of them. When they click in place just pull at the same time out and back...

i used a stainless Steel Nail File to put out the radio it workout fine

where do you connect the aux in cable to the standard facelift 6000cd audio. i know its goes in the back with all the other bunch of cables but i cant work out where in that bunsh.

Thanks for this. Couldn't find the name of the harness adaptor with stalk contol anywhere (even Halfords gave me the wrong part number) so this was a massive help.

I have a 2007 mk2 with the oval surround. I have a single din sony with a touch screen. How on earth does the unit hold its self to the sides????????

I've found no problems with the radio, however there are some pretty cool modern systems out there which you might be able to find.

The keys need to go in so the curved part of the key is facing inwards and not out otherwise the keys will jam and get stuck ( and believe us they really do get stuck lol ) so simply make sure the curved end is facing in towards the volume knob and the flat side is to the outer edge of the surround .Thank you...MaxsoundCarAudio Uk

This video is a fantastic help. I've been tearing my hair out after my original Sony 6 cd changer went bang on me. Ford dealership were no help, want £1000 for a new one. I tried fitting a Double Din aftermarket only to find the face didn't fit properly and I never realised you needed an extra loom for the stalk. Does it support all the stalk features? I'm looking at doing the same as yours, would you mind posting the stereo model you fitted? Either way, massive help dude, cheers!

I bought the SON adapter to use my control stalk on the side of the wheel, all plugged in as it should but the controller doesn't work. I have a Sony MEX 5000BT and the same stalk as you, is there something I'm missing here? Does it need to be enabled on the stereo itself? Great guide btw, got the exact cables and connectors I needed thanks to this.

Hi, I'm unsure in retrospect about the stalk, unfortunately I have since sold the car and radio, it worked initially but did stop after a couple of months, perhaps it wasn't quite the right stalk adaptor. Sorry I can't help more

Hi alan hill im an audio fitter there is one main thing in this video is a bit wrong. normally these boxes on the wiring harness need initial programming to ur patch lead e.g pc99-son. So wa u need to do is first disconnect everything from radio an the car. Then plug the radio bck into the car via ur pc99-*** harness but leaving the 3.5mm patch lead jack disconnected (from radio only) turn ignition on wait for radio to load up an find an save a radio channel. Nw wait till the screen displays tha channel e.g (radio 1) turn the ignition bck off wait for radio to turn off. If u got a sony face off radio after a few secs you shld hear a beeping sound (reminder the face is left on) if u get tha that good news. Nw plug the 3.5mm jack back into the radio an turn on ignition nw test stalk controller it shld wrk. If not getting a beep from radio wen ignition is turned off u got a power issue u can message me for further assistance gd luck ryan

They are extremely tricky and I've almost cut my hands doing them myself as well! If you push the keys in you should hear them click into place. Ensure the curved 'key' part is facing outwards as that is where the catches are on the inside. Also, if you look into the slot, you will possibly see part of the metal holding area, I found that the key was occasionally sliding down the wrong side, so I'd recommend trying that. That all being said in my experience,I ended up using a lot of brute force!

I just did this to retrieve the radio serial number for my Australian Mk 2 Ford Focus 2006. You have the keys backwards. The curved part faces inwards like in this vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX-UZqlslN96rNU .... anyways... stupid Australian unit didn't have the right serial number on it to get the security code off the net... the serial no. is 12 digits long and not the required M###### number. Really annoying stuff.

The brute force however shouldn't be necessary for all of them, you may just get a tricky one that does. I would suggest doing one side first and getting that a bit loose. If anyone else reading this has got a better way than I've been doing please comment as much appreciated!

That's a great help, I am getting a MK2 Focus and have an Alpine head unit with Bluetooth which I wanted to transfer over, seems straightforward enough to do, and being double din I can add a pair of cup holders (I've seen some that will take up the other din slot :-D). It's great that things have come on so much, I remember nearly 20 years ago hacking the dash to bits on a Mk1 Fiesta to fit a Sony MiniDisc head unit... glad it's so much easier these days.

I used wide plastic strips to get the radio out. Worked great!

What is the technique with the keys to remove the radio? Do you need to pull them all outwards then pull the radio out? I've got the keys into my radio but i just can't get it out. I've pulled so hard one of the keys cut my hand yet it still didn't come out. :S Please help!

I got radio crackle on mine i may raplace it as ive changed the aerial and its made no difference.

the single din facia fits perfectly when the cross bar is cut out. i got the antena adapter and another adapter, cant remember the name... u need a stalk adapter too but they cost a fortune so i left that behind
