I'm so glad I found your video. I purchased the Haynes repair manual for my 2012 Focus to learn how to do my own lower control arm and ball joint replacement. If I had followed the instructions in the repair manual, I would have spent a LOT of time having to drop the AC unit and then a lot of money getting it recharged afterward. Fortunately, you've shown the book to be wrong and now I can confidently perform my own lower control arm replacement. You've saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you.

An easy way I found to get at the rear most "B!#ch nut" was by taking a 17" 3/8ths drive breaker bar and medium deep 21 mm socket and fishing it over the stabilizer bar rod between the body and control arm assembly. You might have to change the position of the socket on the breaker bar to seat it properly over the nut whether or not it's a 6 or 12 point socket. The breaker allows enough length to work it in and secure itself from spinning. This arrangement worked well on both sides.

Definitely wanna try myself...don't have an impact wrench. Guess it don't hurt to try and save $250-400 in labor. Thanks for the vid!!!

Your welcome! Thanks also for watching the video! I’m sure you can do it, the main bolt is not that tight, if is really tight on your car you can use a breaker bar to break it loose.

I'm having trouble aligning the new control arm into the spot. Specifically, the rear part with the two bolts; I can't get the bolt through all the way.
@junfam244 жыл бұрын
Hi how you doing! Thanks for watching the video! Sometimes it’s easy to line up the bolt, you might need to pry it or hit it with the hammer to help line up the holes, just make sure you don’t force it the bolt, and your able to thread it by hand at least 3 turns, and you might line up the rear first then the front.

What's the procedure for tightening the bolts on the replacement control arm? Do you need to torque them with the wheels on the ground?
@junfam244 жыл бұрын
Hi Thanks for watching my video! There is no procedure on tightening the bolt, however you need to torque it down the bolt! I don’t have the spec. On how many torque pounds!

You have to put the load of the suspension on the car otherwise the rubber bushings will be in a bind and will wear faster than normal. You can do this by jacking up the rotor, as this simulates the car being on the ground.

Once you put the lower balls joint together you need to jack the control arm to ride height and torque. Think it’s 90 for the single bolt and 80 for the side with 2 bolts. Then another 90* turn after that. Premature wear if you don’t

How long did it take you to do that? And how long do you think it would take for both sides?
@junfam244 жыл бұрын
The passenger side it toke me about 1h 1/2 because off you need to take off the metal shield of the a/c compressor so you’ll be able to take the bold out because it’s kinda long, and I was just taking the time also because I was doing the video, but the driver side it’s pretty simple because there’s nothing in the way.
