I have been in this position a few times... either because I was rushing through too fast, or plain didn't do the right tests. Kicking myself in the end every time and being extremely hard on myself. I'm glad you shared this Steve, since you succeeded in the end, it's even better. It's hard to show the fumbles, but it's helpful to show that everyone has "off" days. I give you props 👏 You stuck through it.

Turbo failed from lack of oil pressure. It took 20 miles to quit. I'm glad it failed before it was returned to customer.

Just diagnosed the exact issue and same fix procedure. Actuator arm fluctuating not holding a steady vacuum. Replaced vacuum pump, actuator now functioning as it should, turbo not spinning, new turbo to be fitted, sump to be removed oil pickup checked for clogging and oil feeds to turbo to be checked prior to fitting. Got to fix other faults sometimes before finding the jackpot.

8:48 Oil change? the custommer declined unfortunately! This is so sad, and it is a fault of the Ford dealerships and sales men, that they don't inform/teach their non-turbo-tech customers about the importance of oil changes and the little intricacies of this fine engine! When I asked for the first oil-change at 1000 km of my new car, the comment was: unnecessary! An absolutely misleading advice. Now the car is at 90000km and still running well. 2015 Ford Tourneo EcoBoost 1.0 Albeit the undercarriage is quite rusty and I should have done something at maybe 3-4 years old. I prove to them the first part was justified if I can easily do it. Then if they are still not happy I acted in good faith, I swallow the labour charge for the part fitting. Then send them off with just a charge for the part & ask them to delete my number from their phone!
@evansmarts7753 жыл бұрын
@@garybrown5500not too bad of a idea, but it can not work every time as some of the jobs we do takes hours of labour and the part is very expensive too ( i.e turbo ) I don't mind fitting a bulb and then turn around say okay just pay for part not the labour, I am talking about really tough jobs with big bills, but yeah I sometimes do same just ask them to pay for part and never show up again.

*****Easy fix. Place your finger over the small vacuum pump port that he connects to at 6:53 . If you can feel a vacuum but also blowing air the check valve that is the plastic port is bad. Remove the star fastener that holds in the small vacuum port (check valve) on the pump. Remove the plastic star shaped diaphragm holder and any remnants of the rubber check valve. Replace back on the pump and splice in an $8 vacuum check valve from Dorman to the vacuum line. Ford does not sell the check valve separate from the $160 pump. Worked great in my case as the pump was still good as I suspect the one in this video was. Don't forget to check that the solenoid is holding vacuum and all the other lines are intact. You definitely do not want to replace the vacuum solenoid like he did, Ford wants $900 for it. At least that's what my local dealer stated.

Similar problems. Blocked oil pump 6 months ago (pathetically small strainer/strange debris); new pump fitted by a local garage, 4 months later no power/limp mode - failed diaphragm in vacuum pump (ridiculously fragile and ridiculous you cant buy one from Ford). Replaced diaphragm (bought off an ebay seller in Ukraine) and running ok for a month. Turbo has now failed; on removal found that no oil had been getting to it, checked external oil feed pipe which is clear. Oil pressure light goes out so I'm assuming there's a blockage between the oil filter and pump. What a nightmare of an engine. Looks like it's back to the garage again and £s more expense.

So, because the vacuum pump was duff, there was no waste gate control and the turbo was over boosting which is what caused the turbo failure?

Awesome video as always... Just two questions.... 1, With the lack of vacuum did this affect the brakes, lack of servo assistance? and 2.. If the exhaust was blocked could back pressure stall the turbo and stop it spinning..
@SYDiagnostics3 жыл бұрын
the brakes where fine, the vacuum pump has a one way vacuum valve which fails causing the fluctuations when supplying the vacuum for the turbo solenoid, the brakes are not affected. In this case the turbo shaft had failed. I think it'd have to be a huge blockage to stall the turbo, not something i've ever witnessed
