For anyone else still having water leaking check under the plastic roof runners, pull the end up and there will be a crack under it, i sealed the mine with silicone then stuck the plastic back down with more silicone, did this 2 years ago and haven’t hand any water since 👍

Thanks for sharing. I think my Ford Mondeo IV is leaking from the same point. Have been searching unsuccessfully yesterday to find the cause. Never thought there could be a hinge problem. Thanks again.

The trouble with fords they leak at several places that cause wet in the boot and foot wells all have to be checked, The first thing that should be checked is every drainage hole needs to be air blasted out, Then check for any visible weld cracked factory joints where sealant has no longer doing its job, Then check for and door seals that allow air or noise to enter more than normal this usually will allow water to seep in, The above are the obvious checks first, blocked drainage hole cause other areas to become leak entries Then other areas known to other persons have reported, below vents seal behind bumper no longer work - all door and boot seals split or kinked or lost their strength - drainage holes in front Couling under bonnet blocked- drainage tube for condenser back of engine blocked, drainage holes in the bottom of doors blocked - manufacturer joint sealant cracked - door plastic membrane damaged- sealant or ring gromets damaged- I did this to see where water was getting in, I Remove seats in care take out carpet clean and dry floor lay down paper towels used hose kept in certain areas to see where leaks were travelling, then once sorted them out replace seats not carpet and drove a few days in raining weather, to see if water was also entering the vehicle through plugs or behind dash, you will be very surprised how many places the car allows water in, I disconnected battery before removing seats to not trip anything as I aren't no mechanic so just being careful,

Most common spots that water gets in are: - The seams in the sheet metal along the upper trunk area and behind the lights. Especially under the rear end of the plastic roof runners! (pro-tip: Do not use silicone. It actually does not last that long and on top of that many silicone sealants also include vinegar solutions, which will cause metal to rust fairly rapidly. Instead just get a touch-up pen, preferably even in your cars color. Clean and then repaint all the seams with like 2 or 3 thick coats of touch up paint, followed by 1 layer of clearcoat pen. This will last a lot longer than silicone cuz it flows deep into the cracks plus it's nearly invisible) - The plastic rear light fitting plugs (pro-tip: silicone is once again not the answer here. throw out the original plastic inserts and get yourself a 25mm long M8 hex bolt. Grab an angle grinder and flatten the head so it's roughly 2mm thick, if you happen to have a lathe use that instead lol. Then drill a small 3.3mm hole into the head of the screw, 10-15mm should be plenty. Cut M4 threads into that newly formed hole. Now buy 2 rubberized M8 washers and a stopnut. Put one washer on your M8 bolt, then slot it through the hole where the original plastic thingy used to be. then from the other side slip on the other washer and tighten it with the stop nut. Make sure it's really tight. Now just get a 10mm long M4 screw with a wide washer and use that to screw your light onto the new fitting. Repeat that 4 times and all your rear light fittings will be watertight even 10 years after you dumped the car into a lake. +20 stylepoints for using stainless steel bolts here.) - The fitting points for the spoiler (for whatever reason Ford decided to put extra holes here next to the screw holes, hoping the pressure from the surrounding screws would be enough to keep it watertight. It is not. Here I personally just ended up putting very soft 1,5mm rubber washers over the screws inbetween the trunk and the spoiler. And for the holes next to that I just added a generous amount of elastic body glue around them and prayed to Henry Ford himself that it may stay waterproof.)

I've had water coming into my 2014 Ford Focus boot area - only found out a couple of weeks ago whilst taking the spare wheel out for some other reason and found water in wheel well. Also, whenever I was going for a ride, water accumulated on either side of the boot area (under mat). Also, the back seat was getting wet. The reason is rainwater seeping through loose air vents either side of the bumper, filling a cavity behind vents, and the water from cavities sloshing over through holes in cavity walls into boot area when taking car for a drive. These people below who has followed this guy's advice and still has a problem - I guarantee it's the problem I've experienced. It is probably caused by shoddy material (sealant) used in the Ford factory in the first place - I've also had the rubber seals on various doors on my car come off over the years - I'm sure they used the same sealant on both the seals and the air vents in the factory. I have emailed Ford UK about this and they will not admit that Ford Focuses have experienced this problem - IN THEIR THOUSANDS!!! I will never again buy another Ford car! Watch this KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npLTk2p3a8mfqcU And this follow-up video by him: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnvTmI2lp9WIgq8 I'll be damned if I'm going to spend hundreds of pounds on paying some Ford technicians to re-seal the air vents - something which Ford should pay for themselves - I've followed his advice and simply pushed up the rubber bungs on either side, and yes, the foam padding in both cavities were drenched in water, which I pulled out today. I now have the jolly task of trying to dry out the boot area upholstery, in the middle of winter. Hopefully his quick-fix will work. Otherwise I'll be forced to sell it and buy another car.

I have a 2012 with the same issues, the wheel well spilled over to the seats in the rear causing damp and mould issues in the footwells. Safe to say i will never buy another Ford.

That’s my next place to check. I have water coming into the boot on the right hand side. I’ve taken the light out and cleaned behind it then wrapped the screw clips with waterproof gorilla tape and the wiring grommet and the one below the light at the bottom. That seems to have reduced the amount of water getting in but it needs further investigation

i will say even if the video doesn't help, the comments may still be very useful! Got a 2011 (same as 2010) and have resorted to redoing the whole spare compartment because of the rust! At first it was only the boot, but this last time i found water in the right door well too, so time to take this issue seriously! (might update later idk)

Should take the roof rack lining off you will see a split on the seal that is where mine came from I found this by adding food dye to a bottle of water and squarting down the plastic roof lining thats where mine was leaking from sealed it up hehe next day he'd a hose on it for 30 mins no leaks

Interesting, but on mine its literally gushing in every time it rains, definitely not from such a small gap that surly creates a steady drip?

I had the same problem, water in boot well and running under rear seat into rear foot well. I removed the roof trim and have put sealant along where there looks to be a hairline crack. It rained all night last night and so far looks to be dry inside. Fingers crossed I’ve fixed it

I don’t think it was. It was just collecting in low point next to rear right tyre in boot/trunk. Yours might be different problem.

What worked for me - before you cover your car in silicone and basically make a mess of it do this first, this video and others DID NOT WORK FOR ME - answer is in the ROOF PLASTIC STRIPS or was for me at least , my leak was in right hand side of bootwell so i removed right hand strip, careful not to break it but it should remove with some pressure - now re silicone the whole gutter/space where strip has been removed ( you may notice tiny cracks damp in space )- leave it 10 mins then replace strip. This is a confirmed fix - my boot hasnt been wet since. Your welcome.

Mine was dripping into the boot from around the boot light and doing the seam above the hinges as shown in the video sorted that out but then it still seeped in elsewhere. I thought I narrowed it down to the seam behind the bumper and fixed it taking photos/videos along the way which I never got around to editing and uploading. Recently I discovered it leaking again including some drips from the boot light :( Maybe the fix isn't permanent so I'll try the same things again and see if it stops. If it does maybe then it will be worth uploading a video. The problem also resulted in ruining my back window because in cold weather it seems vapour can get between some layers (maybe the heating elements) then freeze/expand and make the glass semi opaque.

@troy45uk3 жыл бұрын
@@loftgroover9271 I’ve found that the foam washers must have rotted away on the white locut inserts where the tail lamp securing screws go and this lets water in. Had replaced some of these in the past so knew they had foam seals originally

Do you mind specifying what silicon you used?

It was a while ago now and my problem was ultimately solved by a car running into the back and totaling my car last xmas. However had no problems after using basic clear transparent silicon obtained from hardware store in places described - mainly the hinges for me.

You need to remove the light assy and underneath you'll see some rubber bungs where water can seep thru. I used a toothbrush to remove all dirt around them then sealed with silicone. I didn't silicone around the screws holding the light assy down but made rubber washes to put under the screws so its easier to remove when replacing bulbs. Water can also leak from around airvents behind the bumper. See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npLTk2p3a8mfqcU
