That was a super complete and comprehensive video. I really appreciate the way u scoped out the commands of the computer. And isolating the problem. I had same issue and did not have the skills and understanding I have now. It was a few years back. Your wife is amazing. She never complains when u tell her what to do. Turn this. Start that. Hold this. Wow. Most wives would rather b on facebook holdng the couch down.

Because there was something wrong with having a simple cable running from the accelerator pedal to the throttle, we now have to deal with all of this silliness. At this rate my next car will be pre-1994 so I don't have to deal with stuff like this, lol. And kudos to Tammy for recording this in the cold and dark!
@josholson5015

Chris Freemesser these are actually simpler than the older style. Those used an air bypass around the throttle plate with an idle motor. They also required a separate unit with another cable to pull the blade open for cruise control.

Very thorough, Will! My curiosity would get the best of me and I'd clip the multimeter leads to the motor terminals and slowly rotate it by hand, just to see if it has a dead spot in it.

Mark the motor turn the motor a couple of times to clean up the brushes and reinstall the motor 180 degrees off .. if you really want to get into it drill two holes spray and blow them out .. Double check with a labscope for current draw . If ok reinstall .. I had to do that with my chevy when throttle bodies were $500 .. ..

Daniel Erevia I must say I love the convenient grab and go of the Micsig~ would like to get a pico for the shop to play around with. It’s a powerhouse with lots of resources Wear the micsig takes a little know how but very user friendly.. they also working on some automotive presets I’m looking forward to this.. however I have not used that software update yet

I'm so confused. It wasn't actuating because it was currently in fail safe mode shutting it off completely. So no, it will not actuate with that code on. It sensed a high voltage at one time turning the code on and shutting it off. Also why is your multimeter in continuity mode? You weren't checking the resistance.

Stepper motors might be ok for robotics but overkill for automotive (just a guess). I think you might be on to something with the commutator.

So I'm interested and looking at getting a Micsig automotive scope but had a few questions maybe you could answer or do a video on it's functions. Does it have guided test? Does it give you any know good wave form patters for tests. Is there anything that you consider a down fall of it or a great selling point?

put low voltage dc in series with motor and scope, turn it very slowly and watch scope screen, I'm betting it would have made some very ugly lines of brush/commutator death :)

Remember the plastic toothed wheel that controls the butterfly is subject to heat and cold disintegration too. At 100k, time to replace the motor & plastic gear, however now that Bosch and Hitachi equipped units now use china suppliers go ahead and replace with new $65 units. The same machinery used in Germany Italy & Japan is now used in China. Sad how the hedge fund globalization movement is adding to the slave worker economy.

I'm just saying right now that whining noise is not right I own a Ford Five Hundred (with 210,000 miles) which is pretty much the same car as the freestyle just not a hatchback these CVT transmissions are known to have a Input shaft bearing failure especially the 2005 models you should definitely recommend a transmission fluid change to the costumer
