My mini coop has switches, Every time I get in I turn off stop start, hold for 4 secs to turn of baby mode DSC, then put it in sport and the combination of these switches takes it from a vague, unsettling weird ass modern car to a slightly more tolerable, vague, weird ass modern car.

That shift pattern would drive me crazy! My whole life that has always been second gear LOL what an awesome car congratulations
@Genius_at_Work2 жыл бұрын
That's fairly common in Racing. You don't need the 1st Gear once you're going, and this Shift Pattern keeps the 2nd and 3rd Gear in Line so you can shift faster between them. In normal Gearbox, shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th takes slightly longer than from 3rd to 4th. Here, it's the opposite. You have two fast and only one slow Gear Change. Top Gear actually used this for a Joke in the Berlin Cheap Car Challenge, where James May argued that his Mercedes had a "proper Racing Background" because of such a Gearbox, although it only made him crash into the Car behind him as he shifted into Reverse instead of 1st Gear. The Fact that that always was Richard Hammond shows how this was all an intentional Joke; Richard Hammond rear-ending James May was a Running Gag on that Show.

Someone broke into and attempted to steal my little '72 Mercury Capri in 1978. The one thing that thwarted the thief or thieves was a very tiny ball bearing had fallen down inside the steering column which would not permit it to turn freely. I put together an elaborate array of toggle switches that had to be set in the correct position in order for the push button to be energized thus allowing the starter to turn the engine over. I wrote down the switch positions as I wired everything and then kept the list as a reference for several days until I memorized the proper sequence. Later I installed a manual fuel cut-off valve just under the passenger seat.

Miata shifter notches in fast, but not too fast. Just fast enough to remind you shes an old girl who doesnt wanna be ridden too hard to fast. Ive driven many cars, many faster ones even.
