A mid-size SUV plug-in hybrid that’s very practical is not usually the kind of thing that gets plastered across small people’s bedroom walls, but the vehicle that gets extremely interesting when you have to pay your own bills and taxi brigades of ungrateful children around.
These are not the dreams of our youth - but the best of our reality. And it doesn’t get more real than the new Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid.
The Kuga packs a relatively large - for a PHEV, anyway - 14.4 kWh battery pack, giving a theoretical EV-only range of up to about 35 miles.

If you have a long journey, presumably you can just leave it in a mode where it acts like a normal self charging hybrid, and switches between ICE and EV for best efficiency...?

I love my phev, getting 125 mpg, but I was sad to see on the news that tree-huggers reckon they are bad, because people get them as company cars to save tax, then never plug them in, usually because the company pays for their petrol. Big shame that.

Potential buyers really need to know when the charging issue has been resolved. The most up to date info that I have been able to find is that Ford had designed a fix but the fix didn't work.

the press should pick this up. The PHEV simply does not work. Shame on you FORD

Indeed, it still does not work.... the problem is ongoing since July and all Kuga’s PHEV are not allowed to charge on electricity. Big problem

Waiting since July for new Kuga. Had to cancel order last week. No sign of a fix in 2020 for this. Shambolic.

I’m supposed to have one as a company car. Scheduled for delivery on 7th September. 30 mins before it was due to arrive with me, the dealer emailed to say that the delivery was off, due to the potential fire issues already discussed here. Since then, no updates in spite of contacting the supplying dealer, Ford HO and the lease company. Really poor effort on the part of Ford to keep their customers informed.

But even Hondas and Toyotas have had such issues but when Ford has such an issues it becomes such a big news.. I guess the world is biased

@@bryanduncan6178 The world is BIG... just because U didn't hear it or just because a bunch of media online advertised it does not mean it happened. It happened in Germany and in Sardinia as well. But very few reported it.. well its a Toyota right.. so by default it is better so any such news s wrong.. only Fords, GMs, VWs etc are supposed to go wrong.

@@1989rs500 maybe you could provide factual evidence of these fires? As far as I can see there have been no reported fires of Toyota Prius Plug In Hybrid. There was a recall in 2018 to avoid it from happening....

@@bryanduncan6178 So you do know about the recall then why have you not done a proper research on it?? Rav4 has caught fire several times.. but hey.. its a Toyota.. it must ve been drivers mistake.. only Fords are supposed to catch fire!! Misinformed blind fans of Japanese brands.. do understand that they too ve had many such cases.. many don't report it and many times Toyotas insurance agencies.. pay heavily for not letting news spread.. with Ford, etc.. thats not the case.. and it is true when 1 Toyota burns 1.5 Fords burn.. but a fire s a fire.. no matter how many had it.. The so called Toyota, Honda reliability safety etc used to be true.. not anymore.. nowadays they are as bad as VWs.. Fords I agree s a little bit more unreliable. But its not upto the point where that should be avoided at all cost.

I agree, I should never had bought this car. What is the meaning of selling a plug in hybrid when the owners are not allowed to charge the car with electricity. This is ongoing since July, with no end date in sight
