You can actually go up to 10% power in all electric mode. Glad you finally got your Hybrid Maverick. I have had mine for over a year and 20,000 miles and no problems. I love it.

There are times, as many as not, when the gas motor starts when I push the start button. My Ford mechanic told me there might be as many 40 different things that can tell the(ten year old) computer to start the gas motor. I drive with an egg under my foot on the gas pedal and my mileage is 34-36. I've learned to just drive the truck as a truck and move on!

@@clarenceroller7897 I agree that there are many variations that will start the engine on initial power up but the top two are low ambient air temperature especially if the vehicle is parked outdoors or the climate control system is left in the heat, defrost or AC selection mode and the blower motor is left on. The software in the computer can be updated if it is a computer related issue so don't buy into the 10 year old computer excuse from the Ford technician. A good technician would check the software and update it as needed. The lazy or inexperienced technician resorts to excuses to avoid doing his/her job especially if they are a flat rate dealership technician. They make more money selling you a 30/60/90 K service than looking up TSB's and performing a low paying software update on a vehicle. Try shutting everything down and see if you get the same results, if you do, I would look into updating the EEC (Electronic Engine Control) to the latest software.

I must have worded my tech's answer about the computer wrong, he wasn't talking about the software, he was talking about the hardware. Kind of like the computer I'm using right now, it gets the job done but slowly. There are just too many electronics for me and they keep sucking on the battery so I have to keep a trickle charger on it all the time or it wants to go to sleep!@@99shadows66

Finisher. I’m glad you got our hybrid. I’m loving mine too. One thing I learned for better fuel economy is to use the eco mode along with cruise and it will maintain the same speed going up and down hills. The L button I will use only to assist braking. On a 40 mile commute I have gotten up to 13 miles in electric and I am very pleased with it especially at speeds between 50 and 75 mph.

I understand that the L mode keeps the transmission in a lower gear and more regenerative braking but less mpg.

We live 10 miles from town and it is about two miles up hill, then some flat and six miles downhill. In L mode it should charge up fully and save on some brake pads. BTW, when you lift up the back seat you see the 12 volt battery. The 450 volt propulsion battery is under the vehicle. And the big one not only propels the vehicle forward, it is the only way to go in reverse. Hopefully mine gets built as scheduled during the week of April 17th and makes it to PA without any train wrecks along the way. Two train wrecks involved rail cars carrying Mavericks and I guess Ford tells their customers, tough luck. Isn't that a bummer?

As much as you think that Low Mode is not creating extra wear and tear, It is. I realize that it only has one gear but you have to think of it as it is a rear differential. When you have bidirectional torque constantly on the planetary gears it creates extra friction and wear. Sorry.

I use L mode for going down steep hills plus their is a hill decent button on the left side of the shifter.

No problem 👍. Regular mechanical 5, 6, 8 or 10 speed Ford trannys it's a forced low gearing so you are right for 95% of Ford transmissions

3x less fuel consumption but also 3x less capability for towing and hauling. I opted for the 2.0 EcoBoost with the 4k tow package and AWD on my 22' Lariat. I didn't want to leave any capability behind. That's nice to know about the L button playing a different role in the hybrid version. In the 2.0 EcoBoost version, it revs the engine very high, so i don't use it. That might be one reason why people might not use L, cuz they think it'll rev the engine

The Ford Maverick manual seems to indicate that L will cause high deceleration rate when the accelerator pedal is released, thus the reason you see more charging, more dynamic (regen) braking. It's supposed to be used on a hilly road or when towing, to assist in braking.

Electra that last part of your message is perfect as it is exactly described as that in the owners manual. My head technician sees no danger in having it on at all times and a colleague of mine drove his cmax in L at all times

@@Johnnyscarcarereviews I agree, I drive my Maverick hybrid in L mode, My Chevy Volt in L mode and a Toyota Prius in the B mode most of the time to get the best re gen possible. I definitely see an improvement in MPG.

For a kind of "in between" for L mode or "normal" mode, if you turn on your "eco" mode, it will increase your regen start to around 70% instead of 35% or so in normal mode.

Idk I use normal and eco modes quite a bit. I haven’t noticed any difference in the battery regen. In fact eco mode seems to have the least amount of regen for me. Normal has a little bit and sport mode actually has the highest regen slowdown which I find quite strange

Finisher - Think Ford only charges to 80%, hence probably not over charging the battery. Here bthe current batteries should be 20-80% charge range. Not sure if that's true, but a slight concern. Will now use the 'L' button when coming up to a stop light/sign, rapid speed limit change and a very steep hill. The 'L' does really slow down the vehicle. Did final try it today after see the first part of this video. Thanks as always nice video and haha Marie saying Johnny dirves like a Prius owner on the highway. lol😂

Driving in L feels like one pedal driving with the aggressive regenerative braking, is like a Prius driver style, and feels like you are using more gas pedal to maintain your speed.

Indeed. Vehicle feels like it is being held back but when you remove L the power % used needle goes up signifying more power used

The needle being above the zero doesn’t mean it’s always using gas. I have my screen setup to see real-time gas or electric and it sometimes is over the zero and in electric mode. I do use the L mode to give more regen but I do think it sometimes kicks in the gas motor to give resistance too. I’ll keep experimenting with it.

You’re right. He’s wrong lol. Also when the needle is pinned to the bottom (left ) you are usually full on the brakes and also not full charging . He’s got a few things confused

Finally my XL hybrid is scheduled! In western Washington it's cold in winter, not like Canada of course. I will be able to park in a garage (once I clear out a few things) and I also will have the engine block heater. Do you think that doing both will increase the gas mileage?

I've never experimented with a block heater but it would make sense as fuel economy ussually worse by 1 to 2 liters consumed per 100km. Or a quarter gallon per 60 miles or so. Let us know your results

This L button almost sounds like the B option in a Prius to go into a “lower” gear and help slow the vehicle down while also kicking in more regenerative breaking.

Awesome share thank you for taking the time to drop this information for the community. In guess what is also very interesting? At least for me is that the transmission in the mavric and the prius are based on the same. Because Toyota and Ford worked together.

@@Johnnyscarcarereviews That is interesting. I was using the L button in my Maverick the other day going down some hills and it felt almost identical to the Prius B mode when I had a Prius back in 2020. The Maverick charging meter would go to a full charge every time too.

Hey Johnny, I picked my my new Maverick last week. When it arrived it came without the bedliner. My dealer actually made me switch from a spray in to a drop in to speed up production. Now my dealer says they contacted Ford and Ford is telling them because my order was converted from a 2022 to a 2023 that the bedliner isn’t included with my order. Now I’m like WTH!?!? So last night I spoke with (2) different reps from Ford and they are telling me that they need to confirm with My dealer that the bedliner was in fact part of my original order? I don’t know why there is so much miscommunication for a simple solution. Your thoughts? BTW. My order was a XLT LUX package

Like Marie's order when it went from 2022 to 2023 the spray bedliner got dropped as well as bedrails but lux costs less in 2023. So all 2023 do not have spare in as part of the Lux package. Now if you ordered within the deadlines you should have a special rebate for your 2023.

I tend to use the cruise control alot, keeping at a constant speed will L still do more? I have found if I set cruise a few miles above what I want, then use the cruise slow button down 2mph it kicks into full electric and stays there for miles, feels like hyper driving being in full electric that long.

The hybrid battery is under the floor of the back, the 12 volt battery is under the rear passenger seat. What is this "L" mode you are talking about? Someone should do a real good video on the hybrid motor, all the things that make the gas motor run and how, under what conditions, you can optimize gas mileage!

I'm going to b honest on this one , I'm the. Owner of a Corolla hybrid also the maverick 2023 and let me tell ya the Corolla is good but the maverick outperforms in everything, more power , better gas miles, roomier , and last it's a real truck and handle,s the weight of the regular f150, I'm in the glass industry and we already topped the maverick with 1400, pounds and it handle it like nothing, in my opinion this is the best truck in the world , nothing comes closer .

This. On the EcoBoost L doesn't do what I expected. It feels like it makes you stick in first or second. When it would have been smarter to just make it like an OD off button.

Definitely not. It will often be in all electric mode but will switch the gas engine on and off to help with power and acceleration

I can't believe the driving in L mode is wise. If it had all benefits without premature wear, why wouldn't ford just make the truck drive like that all the time to make the mpg more impressive?

IMO you are correct. If the engine parts are being used in more ways than planned they will definitely wear out more quickly and put more strain on all connected components. Great for controlled descent and off road or snow - but for normal conditions- no

Please don't just drop a criticism without sharing your definition of low mode for a hybrid Maverick. Ford l's video describes it as "a low mode for driving on steep slopes and can ve activated at any vehicle speed, the transmission will hold a low gear for maximum torque when driving up hill and maximum engine braking when driving downhill.
