@@darbyharrison3876similar size, but the diesel Mondeo can deliver incredible fuel economy. Like 5l/100 k open road. And a range of over 1200km. The dual clutch can be reliable, it needs to be maintained properly. Unfortunately many service centres take the money but don't do the job. But I've seen a diesel/ DCT for sale with 655,000 km. In really good condition too.

Had a 2015 MD Titanium and was one of the best cars I've owned. Bought it new and throughout the 5 years we had it the only issue we got was the sunshade for the panaromic roof got stuck and jammed itself one day requiring it to be replaced under warranty. In terms of mechanical issues, a major one that was missed and commonly documented with the 2.0 GDI Motor is carbon build up causing misfiring, rough running engine on cold starts etc on higher kilometre models. At the time (2015) I believe it was a better choice over some of the other mid sized models so don't necessarily agree it sits lower on the pecking order for cars. Compared to the Mazda 6 at that time, they weren't available with the turbo engine yet so the Mondeo engine felt much stronger. The hatchback design is also much more practical than the sedan and the Mazda 6 wagon is based on a shorter wheelbase making it smaller. Toyota Camry was a white good on wheels so that was crossed off the list and wasn't considered. I would also definitely recommend the Titanium for anyone looking to buy a Mondeo as they featured other worthwhile gadgets such as 3 mode adaptive suspension, along with a heated front windscreen made of a tiny mesh of elements embedded in the glass. On a cold day rather than wait for ages for your demister to work, hitting the Window heating button would clear it in under a minute and would allow you to be on your way. As far as I know, the Mondeo was also the only car in the mid size price bracket that had a powered tilt and telescoping steering wheel so it allowed for a comfort access mode where the seat and steering wheel would move out the way every rime you turn off the car ala more luxury cars such as Lexus etc.

On my second diesel wagon and absolutely love them. So much nicer to drive than an SUV. Averages mid 5s in my normal driving and mid 9s when towing my race car. A more entertaining drive than a Camry and less road noise than a Mazda 6. Currently on 212k, Problems have been thermostat housing and oil pressure solenoid. Transmission serviced regularly.

I fell in love with this car by renting a Ford Fusion in the USA and driving it from San Francisco to NYC and return across America for a month. It is one of the finest cars I have ever driven. Handling, power, smooth, quiet, and all the bells and whistles. I live in New Zealand and two years ago the dealer in Christchurch was selling 2020 Mondeos 2.0 Eco-boosts for $29,990.00 NZD as a run-out model! I offered $29K cash and got a bargain. I have had it now for two years, and only had a loose battery connection that caused it to give me a dead battery, otherwise no issues at all. Mine is a Ambient Model (base model) and has all the bells and whistles I need. Bye the way something not mentioned the 2.0 Eco-boost made in Mexico up to 2018 Mk5 models (American Fusions) does have one flaw to watch for, leaking coolant into the number two or three cylinders. This can cause total engine failure so if under warranty Ford owes you a new motor. Plenty of videos on KZbin about this item. As I understand the engines made in Valencia Spain for Ford Mondeos, as well as some American Fusions are ok. You can check the origin on a information sticker on the engine at the side of the head.

Hi from Denmark. The MK5 Mondeo is my first Ford. It has the 2.0 Peugeot diesel unit paired to a 6 speed manual (had read about the powershift, so it was a must!) and it is a germ of a motor! Mine got upgraded from 150 hp to 180 hp and it is a total different car. More relaxed to drive, more power. The handling is underrated and it just drive so good. I have had it for two years now and it has just past the 100.000 km mark and nothing had gone wrong. Only oil change every 20.000 km and that's it.

Not gonna lie, it's pretty amazing seeing the global level that the Mondeo/Fusion/Contour is on. I really enjoy seeing everyone's views on these cars. I have been around every gen of these cars (USDM spec), and I love the 25-30 year old car nameplate with the Contour (1995-2000 and to 2003 with the Mercury Cougar). One of Ford's more groundbreaking cars from an engineering standpoint alongside the Ford Taurus (SHO specifically), and I love all of the generations of this car. I love how simple the Mondeos/Contours were in the 90s. Basic creature comforts, but the Duratec V6, transmission, and suspension setup made it one hell of a standard car to drive hard. The handling is extremely nimble and light, and combine that with the exterior cues of 98-00, it was adorably aggressive and lively. The SVT/ST variants were an amazing homage to the American built/Japanese designed Yamaha SHO V6 Taurus (in my mind at least). I wish we had access to the Estate/Wagon versions of these cars, and even on the SVT and non-SVT Contours. My mother has a 2018 Fusion Titanium Hybrid, and I really wish it came as an Estate as well as offering an actual 6-8 speed auto transmission (with the "manual" paddle shift mode) instead of the CVT transmission. Love that 2018 car so much and the rims do help the look of the car because my SVT looks wierd with anything smaller than 17 inch rims, and same exact thing goes with my 2012 Fusion (generation before the Aston body). The 2013-2021 models look so bad with anything smaller than 19 inch rims. I love the 5 spoke 19/20 inch rims that were shown on that Blue Titanium Estate, and I am sad to see these go as well. For being a mid-size car compared to the full-size Taurus, it is extremely roomy and practical (as long as you don't get an Saloon/Sedan Hybrid) across the entire lifetime that the Mondeo has been around for. The only reason why I don't like the Hybrid as a Saloon, is because of the batteries being located in the trunk/boot. If we were able to have the Hybird as only as Estate, brilliant!!!

We had no choice but 7 seat suvs when the kids were growing up. As soon as we didn't need one we went back to Focus's. Have had 3 now and I totally agree if you enjoy driving, NONE of the SUV's come close to the drive or dynamics of a sedan/hatch. I actually look forward to getting in the missus's Focus for an engaging drive somewhere these days. Its such a shame that there are not enough "drivers" out there anymore to keep the standard cars alive. RIP Falcadores

We needed a family car and just happened to go to the auctions where we stumbled across a 2015 2.0 ecoboost Titanium model, we never considered them in the past until we saw how nice it was for the money. We were surprised with how big and practical the big boot opening and space was, which suited us perfectly with bulky prams, shopping etc. It drives really well and we've been really happy with it. When we go for regular servicing at ford, they told us that they don't have recommended intervals for servicing the gearbox as they're a 'sealed unit'. This doesn't sit well with me and I'll be looking to have the fluid changed elsewhere soon. One issue that surprised us was that when we got a flat tire one day - we found out just how rubbish the original ford lug nuts are. They're steel lugs nuts coated in aluminum, which swell over time making them an odd size and easily damaged/stripped when trying to remove them with a socket. I recommend being proactive and changing them to all steel lug nuts so that you're not stuck on the side of the road.

Love, love, love Mondeo’s! We have owned every version after the original and have the last one, the 2019 MD in a wagon. All have been fantastic. Our 1998 MK2 hatch in England gets driven for 9 months by my cousin, a couple of times a month. We go over for 3 months on holiday and drive all over the place, in the UK and Europe, doing thousands of K’s in those few months. Always reliable and comfy, which is important when you are 2,000 kilometres away from home in Kent, in Spain or Italy. Ford killed off possibly their best car.

I used to have one and unfortunately it was a rebirth so it went south pretty quickly (absolutely a rookie mistake learnt my lesson!!) however - we loved it (until the injectors went) great on fuel, so comfortable, quick and fun to drive. I just went past one and thought it was brand new but soon realised it’s got to be at least 5 years old. Absolute gem and despite our eventually bad experience I think a well vetted quality version would actually suit me down to the ground. Lovely car.

I own a 2016 Mondeo Titanium Ecoboost which I bought new. No major mechanical or electrical issues so far. Just touching on a few things, based on my experience with it: 1. Titanium has the same seats as the Trend, except it's trimmed fully in leather rather than part leather/part suede. It's only the Ambiente that had different seats. Interior wise - personally, I think at the time it was launched, it was the most 'premium' feeling interior in any Ford sold in Australia. I still struggle to think of an Australian delivered Ford that has a better interior - including the current generation cars. Unless your mate was talking about aesthetics, which is entirely subjective - I can't agree about the interior. 2. Central locking - the worst it's ever got for me was not unfolding the passenger side mirror when I unlock the door. Otherwise it's worked every time. 3. Windows lowering itself - that has happened once before, and thankfully, never again. 4. Physical buttons in the centre stack - every Australian delivered car has physical buttons. As far as I'm aware, it was only the North American market that got capacitive buttons. 5. Touch screens work 99% of the time. Absolutely agree that Sync 2 is slow to respond, but voice control isn't that bad. There's only been a few occasions when it couldn't understand me. Honestly, you've done a pretty decent review, especially about how it's underrated, but I'm not entirely sure how you can then turn around and say that the Mazda 6, Toyota Camry, Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata are better buys. I recall Wheels magazine did a 'mega-test' of mid size family cars back in 2017 and the Mondeo came second only to the Passat, but ahead of Camry, Optima, 6, and Sonata. I may be biased, as I'm unashamedly a Ford fan and have owned nothing but Fords in my 23 years of driving and owning cars, but if I had my time all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Based on looks, features, comfort, and driving experience, it was one of the best cars in the segment that is too often overlooked for no discernable reason.

One other thing: fuel economy. You're absolutely right that it will probably never achieve its advertised figures. My Titanium Ecoboost has an advertised fuel economy of 8.5L/100km, but I generally average around 9.5-10.3 depending on how much stop-start driving I do. It's still not too bad for a car of its size, but unless you do a lot of highway journeys, 8.5L/100km is almost unachievable.

Until about two years ago I had had a Mondeo 2000 model ST24 V6 in a magnificent Pacific Green colour which always attracted attention and compliments. I was planning to treat it as a classic car, spend money on it and keep it the rest of my life. I'd read there were only 4 or five of this model left on the road in Australia at that time. Apparently only 166 sold in Australia before Ford stopped importing Mondeos for seven years. Sadly a young lady who may have been arguing with her bf and wanted to kill him drove through a stop sign at speed and crashed into the left side of the car, rendering it unrepairable. I was very impressed that after 22 years the side airbag inflated and helped protect my passenger.

I’ve owned my Fusion for about 4 years now and put about 100k miles on it. Today it sits just shy of 200k miles. Mine is a 2013 1.6l Ecoboost which in the US is known to be one of the least reliable motors. It has never let me down. These cars are very very well equipped when it comes to technology. There is also a lot of interchangeability between the newer refreshed designs. One of the biggest complaints in the US on the Fusion is the transmission. It is known to have a harsh 2nd-3rd shift that Ford writes off as normal. Ford also claims the fluid in the transmission is good for the lifetime of the vehicle. This is absolutely a terrible idea. The key to these transmissions is to only perform a drain and fill for the fluid. There have been many reports from owners that have Ford do a FLUSH which typically dislodges something and results in a failed transmission a few thousand miles later. Anyways I did a drain and fill at 100k miles. I drive my car hard and I even tow my jet ski with it. The trunk is HUGE! I have been doing mobile detailing out of my car for a while now and I can fit all of my equipment back there. Most Fusion owners are jealous of the Mondeo and the 5-door design because here in the US we have a regular trunk with a pretty awkward opening. Anyways, I always recommend the Fusion/Mondeo to anyone trying to get the most bang for their buck feature-wise!

I'm lost for words about that, I even did a video discussing about the discontinuation of the Ford Mondeo in Europe. Commenting from the US: as far as mechanical issues, the engines to have the least likely issues are the 2.5l duratec, hybrid and the gen 1 2.0 ecoboost (13-16, especially spanish assembled engines). I havent heard anything bad regarding the 2.7 ecoboost found in the sport from 17-19, but the 1.5, 1.6 and gen 2 2.0 have an inherent coolant intrusion flaw that has a recall out for the 17-19 models. In 2020, they came with the updated block. With all of that being said, as long as you follow the service schedule, and maybe even do some maintenance a little early such as the transmission and oil changes, your car should last a long time.

In general, any owner of any car tends to defend the car he has. But the Mondeo really is under rated in general. I actually own an even older face lifted mk4, and if I were to buy a car now, I would buy it again. It's great value for the money and it drives so, so well an reliable. Yes it is old, not that sharp looking anymore, not that much tech ,but I don't care. It just drives and drives every day, loads of space, great handling, great engine, 0 rust. It's a 2.0 tdci safely mapped to 190hp, 230k km on the clock, even the clutch and DMF are stock. Very very good cars. Not all the good stuff has moved to the mk5, the mk4 might be the last dinosaur in terms of reliability and fun driving, but my next car will definitely be the mk5.

Have run a 2014 base model LX for about 5 years. Passenger door lock stopped working, steering wheel buttons intermittently not working. Cruise control only works when it wants to. Bluetooth is for phone calls only. Cannot stream music! Radio changes channels itself once a phone call is ended! I'd suggest avoiding the early model and go straight for the facelift. Non-turbo petrol engine is gutless. It's a big heavy car. Go either turbo petrol or diesel.

Had a 2008 TDCI Mondeo and it was amazing. Never missed a beat in the 100k we had it. Sold it with 150k and it was still going strong. Only downside we had was the Sony CD player (rubbish). Fuel economy of the diesel was amazing. I honestly miss its boot the most, it used to swallow a child's motorbike ffs. It is soooo much more practical then the Escape we have, they just stopped making them when we went to replace it. Hence the Escape we own now.

I bought a 2013 Fusion S about 3 years ago, I think it was in some kind of fleet as it had extremely low miles (under 18K miles in 2020). I traded a police interceptor Crown Victoria and had decent luck with it so wanted to stay with Ford. Mine has the 2.5liter non-turbo, and without direct injection because I wanted a rock solid, dependable car. In 45K miles I have had just oil and filter changes, rear brake pads (early, as I was about to take a 3,000 mile trip), and recently replaced the tires. That's it. The car is as basic as they come, but has everything I need. I agree that Ford should have made the hatchback available here in the 'states because of the trunk/boot opening being a bit short...the wagon would have been even better. Things that I don't like? I don't like that the odometer/tripmeter "disappears " when you have less than 3 gallons in the tank. And extendable sun visors would be nice. Other than that, I love it and have considered replacing this Fusion with a newer Hybrid Fusion. As it is I average only 33-34 MPG in mixed driving. Best feature? The nearly incredible front seat legroom. I nearly bought a Camry but the Fusion has about 2 inches more legroom and I am tall.

I have the much lesser known 2015 1.5 econetic variant which doesn't have the power it deserves naturally, but for my needs it's damn near perfect. Spacious boot, comfy drive with a really quiet cabin is a nice luxury, and the cherries on the top have been the 12 speakers and the upgraded sync 3 unit i stuffed in which truly transforms the infotainment system into something useable, unlike the horrific Sync 2 unit that came as standard on my model. Awesome car.

Im a massive Ford enthusiast. But this opinion is not biased, i have not owned a ford for 3 years, and ive had 4 cars of different brands. Alot of experience with focus and mondeo. The mondeo is easy top 5 of the best cars ever made. They are ridiculously equiped, VERY reliable (if they do go bad, super cheap to fix), they are comfy, "fast" and handsome. All this based on the price point, you CANNOT get more car for the money. For some reason, Ford isnt looked at as a premium car, but make no mistake, i would pick a mondeo Ghia X over any 3-5 series. The mark 3 is hand down the most car that money can buy.

The best were the MC Mondeo being that it handles far better, feels like it is built better. Avoid buying the diesel if you don't do much long trips for DPF burn. The only issue we've ever had was the fuel atomiser blockaged on the MC which lead to DPF fault code. $250 part and all good again. Biggest surprise was heated windscreen which was brilliant when parked outside in Melbourne's winter. AC performance is ok but the heater will cook you though.

Got a 2017 Trend diesel wagon to replace the 2011 Passat diesel wagon. Suspension and steering much better than passat. Nice interior, plenty of space and heaps of torque (400 Nm), so it shifts along when needed. The getrag DSG is fine, though I will give it an oil and filter change soon. Had a previous generation Mondeo petrol ecoboost DSG in the form of a Volvo S60 and it too was great to drive. Agreed with AK, sedans and wagons are so much better to drive than most SUV's, although our previous Territory Diesel SZ was a fine drive for a large and heavy SUV, and was great for towing around 2 tonne of trailer. As for options for a roomy and economical wagon for the boss lady to drive her many km, well, there's not a lot of choice really now is there? And now they've given up selling Mondeos in Oz, there's one less choice.

I will give my 5 cents about why I drive (and like) an SUV. Particularly, because here in North Europe, the weather can be quite capricious and we have lots of snow/ice and what feels like ~4 months of the year there's minimum a possibility for snow. Having an SUV with extra ground clearance gives lots more confidence over "hidden" snow-covered roads and especially during melting or fluctuation between +/- 0 it is just a lot more reliable to drive. Edit: Mondeo to me looks like a budget Aston Martin. Front side looks great, but every other side I personally really dislike (especially the back-end)

Actually my wagon mondeo is less practical than the hatch, due to a cargo barrier which I haven't bothered to remove.... yet! No complains about the navigation system, although google maps is waaaay better. Have to agree about the voice control system, maybe it only works in 'murica when wearing a cowboy hat and holding a banjo. Interior plastics are crap and have pretty much melted away in the sun in the 2008 hatch with 352k km. No mechanical issues and can still do 1100km with one tank and under 6l/100km. As for my 2016 diesel wagon, it's going great, I've bought it with 80k and still only have 130k km on the clock. Will have to say a bit heavier and doesn't handle as well as the old hatch, but the engine is way torquier and the DSG is smooth as.

Service transmission every 20k. Use correct fluid (any manufacturer, nulon, penrite, castrol, gulf western etc). Use 1 bottle of Lucas transmission fix along with said trans fluid. Don't stop doing this. Reset the computers in the vehicle by removing the battery terminals and turning on the headlights. Wait 30 minutes then reattach. For some strange reason, resetting via a computer or scantool will not make the vehicle default to factory settings.
