Strange is the folk who believe the MG image knowing it's really Chinese, but somehow the name maintains their fantasy.

Have to say, I don't believe the industry is lying to anyone about where these cars come from. Consumers don't want to know where they come from any more than they want to know about the sweatshops of Bangladesh when they buy their fast fashion items from H&M, etc, or how little tea pickers are paid that produced their cuppa. I have not seen an ad claiming or even suggesting the country of origin on any car in donkey's years. The OEMs use generic descriptor ("BMW - the ultimate driving machine", "Mercedes - the best or nothing", etc.), but those are generic statements that avoid 'country of origin' because it makes marketing internationally cheaper, not because it's a way to con the customer. Now, dealership personnel? That's a whole other matter.

Land Cruisers are quite possibly the best thing that happened to 4X4 SUVs, and among them, 100/ 105 series takes the cake!

How come no-one bothered to address John's bull$#*t about EV's envioronmental impact vs petrol, diesel & hybrid? It is about human health and lithium mines are nowhere near as bad as offshore oil rigs. John's vitriol for part 1 can be debunked by checking out out the following (I assume john doesn't do academic papers): Jason @EngineeringExplained did an entertaining whiteboard youtube titled "Are Electric Cars Worse for the Environment? Myth Busted" Matt @UndecidedMF has a video titled "Will EVs Kill the Grid?" @DWPlanetA has a vid "Can You Recycle an Old EV Battery?" P.S. if you are throwing Lithium batteries into garbage trucks please stop. Supermarkets nation-wide have battery collection bins and companies are lining up to take them because they are valuable. EV battery recycling recovers and can re-use 97% of the total material leaving you guessed it, petro-chemical plastics that must get discarded. Read Toyota's papers and not their headlines and take note of all the asterisks. Their scientific method is greatly flawed and testing methodologies are greatly lacking. Toyota doesn't like EV's because they are very good with petrol and sub-standard with EV's. True that EV's won't save the world. Shutup with your EV half-thuths though, you are slowing adoption that is factually less awful for everyone. Otherwise excellent commentary on car industry. All of that was true before taking into account Drive dot com dot au that has an excellect article "Real-world emissions 20 per cent higher than test results claim". Love you guys at ReDriven! John, okay boomer.

We have 31 cars all MGs several HS Exclusives Auto Manual And Plug ins, all great just odd things are issues example problem with touch screen, they wont order new one and then swap it, they take yours out for repairs and the cars of the road. Local dealer says there is a warranty lead time off three months. Crazy unless you paid over the top from them for a car.

0:55 "I am not saying that one country is better at manufacturing than another". FFS mate, we know why you're not saying it. It's 'coz you don't want to get sued. We all know that technical products stuff from China, Mexico, India et al are shite and that the high labour costs of certain countries make their products uncompetitive and so they are out-sourced to cheaper (less well educated, less stringent work forces in) 2nd world countries. Some countries impose huge importation taxes on foreign cars, which can be removed if the car company moves manufacturing to that country. That can work if the labour force is competent, if not, it doesn't.

No, the reason we don’t say it, is because it’s not that simple. Some Audis are made in Mexico, and they’re decent quality. Other cars are made in Mexico, and aren’t all that nice. Aussie-delivered Teslas are made in China and are far superior to those made in the US. MGs are made in China and the build is inconsistent, but so are Polestars, and they’re very good quality. The reality is the country of assembly is irrelevant, the issue is companies trading off claims their cars are ‘German-built’, for example, when it’s not the case.

Which engine to buy is an important issue in SUV's - in fact in any car. Buy a proven engine (even if it's older). I am getting on in years now and wanted to move from my medium hatchback to a small/medium SUV. My old Peugeot 308 had the 2L diesel engine. Both mechanics (European specialists) told me to keep with the 2L diesel engine if possible as it was proven in Australian conditions. They told me to avoid the smaller petrol engines. I took their advice and bought a Peugeot 3008GT (HDi 2L diesel) - an ex demo. Huge saving on new and it was optioned up being an ex demo. Great decision. So, look at the car (SUV) but also look at the engine options - it's worth it for the long term.

Really? How many people these days can't Google where is my MG made? Answer: "MG vehicles are designed and developed by SAIC, and manufacturing mainly takes place at SAIC's plants in China. SAIC also produces MG vehicles in Thailand, India and Indonesia for the respective regional markets."

specific to 2.0 TDI in EU, my experience buying 2nd hand one at 150,000km, CV joints go around 150,000km, glowplugs needed replaced around 170,000km EGR cooler failed around 200,000, dual mass flywheel starts to wear out around 250,000km and needed replaced, adblue pump failed around 270,000. aside from these issues, it's been the best car I've ever owned, loads of space, lovely to drive, motorway cruiser. so far no other issues. You MUST change the 7 speed gearbox oil every 60,000km .

I am a bit confused… Fiat being an Italian brand does not mean that the car was made in ITALY and it does not even mean that the chief designer was Italian… The most celebrated Alfa Romeo’s of recent history that kind of brought the brand back to life were design by a Brazilian - Wagner de Souza. He then went on to work for Audi. In Alfa he designed like an Italian and in Audi he designed as a German. Or are we going to say there is such a thing as “Brazilian auto design”? How is the Fiat example anything like the MG example?
@ReDriven
@ReDriven 23 сағат бұрын
Similar to MG being British by origin, but now owned by Geely in China, Fiat is part of FCA/Stellantis, an American joint venture. So their ties to their homeland is tenuous at best. Ultimately where a car is designed, who it’s designed by, where it’s made etc. Is meaningless. Our only issues is when brands trade off terms like ‘German-made’, as if it’s a badge of honour. Where in actual they’re made in places like USA, South Africa and Hungary to name a few. None of that is a problem, it just isn’t Germany.
