my dad was one of the boy scout helpers and i have his orange scarf.the scouts were the few that kept their tents up during a storm and he was proud of that.drafted before he finished his eagle badge which pissed him off.

This Chicago World's Fair was extended an extra year through 1934. Almost 50 Million tickets were sold in its two year existence. The modern architectural style of it was peak Art Deco. The Ford Rotunda was added during the second year, and after the World’s Fair the Rotunda was dismantled and rebuilt in Dearborn, Michigan. It was a popular attraction (especially famous for its Christmas displays) until it burned down in 1962, never to be rebuilt. A "Twenty Grand" ($20,000) Duesenberg was the most impressive car exhibited at this world's fair. That was an astonishing sum in an era when a house could be purchased for $5,000 and a nice new car for $1,000. New York City would host the next great World's Fair in 1939/1940.

Great old video. Thanks! My dad attended the Chicago World's fair when he was 12 and told me all his life about how wonderful it was. He also had a ton of WF memorabilia that we sold off after he passed away. A lot of these WF items shown in the video wound up at The Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. Both places are well worth the trip if you are in the area. Heck, they are worth a special trip to Detroit if you are a car nut!🙂

@@magnetocheck My grandparents took me to two of the smaller World's Fairs (Spokane, Washington in 1974 and Vancouver, B.C. Canada in 1986). I enjoyed them both (especially the 1974 trip) but neither of them could compare with the previous grand expositions of Chicago and New York City.

What I would give to travel back in time and go through the Ford Exposition. I could spend all day watching the manufacturing processes. I live in the Detroit area, and my dad would bring me to the Rotunda 2 or 3 times a year, especially at Christmas time. Going for rides in the new cars was special ( I loved the Edsel and the Continental) That place was so special... and I honestly cried when it burned down. My dad said they'd rebuild it...but they never did. I still miss it. Never realized till later in life where it came from, but I have some coins from the '33 fair that my Grandpa went to.

I saw that car at World of Wheels back in 1991. I was so disappointed when you got up close and looked at that car as it was not the car in the videos that they did. It was just some piece of junk that they painted to match their car. They had the door held in place with bailing wire because it would not close!

Henry Ford and crew knew how to build a car. They were invented the process as they went along. The flathead V-8 is a classic example. But that axle twist to show their engineering prowess? Phenomenal.
