I've contacted people in several states as well as local and seen their work or their videos. Ben does the most professional work I have seen. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm going to try and do it myself because I can't find anyone up to these standards.

Just bought a 68 coup. It’s been in a garage for 15 years hope it’s not too bad I couldn’t say no the price was right. Although it has the 6cyl but a manual transmission. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I'm a novice, not an expert! I have a 1970 Mustang Convertible that I'm currently replacing about everything on. Using Dynacorn Parts, and have the radiator core support(complete with front Crossmember, and Battery apron clamped on with the weld holes drilled and ready to be welded. I'm replacing the entire Cowl Panel and Firewall. Both Dynacorn Parts. The cowl is their one piece coated with weld-through primer. The passenger side of the cowl panel is about 3/8 of an inch taller than the outside panel that the cowl welds down to!! I'm guessing that the firewall is a good reproduction , but not perfect. I can see the advantage of welding in a two piece cowl panel, you have to use panel adhesive, where you were able to weld across the seam of the outside edge of the firewall(TOP) where it meets the outside panels. I think that you well very fortunate, that your parts fit so well! It's very apparent that you have to examine, remove, bodywork various areas, replace, and look for the high areas and low areas and use your body hammer gently to fit everything so that you're not off by any extreme amount! I may have to cut a small "V" out of the passenger side of the firewall and tap and weld the flange down to get a proper fit on the passenger side! The amount of patience you need to have to do this stuff is off the charts! I'd love to see a video, where a guy like you is having to deal with your typical Chinese or Taiwan part that is slightly off. It's that art of having to make something fit that was stamped wrong that's going to help the average guy deal with after market metal! I'm not being critical of your video! I thought it was great! Almost ALL of the mustang Sheet metal repair videos here on youtube deal with the very early 64 1/2-68 mustangs, and they are put together differently! I wish I could post a couple of pictures here, so you could see my problem! Anyway. Keep up the good work!

What do you use to treat the bare metal in the weld areas that you had to grind in order to spot weld them together? Is there some sort of weld thru primer to keep those areas from rotting later?
@porterscott83603 жыл бұрын
don't you use weld through primer to protect the surfaces between the welded seams?

I have often wondered if there is a type of spray foam insulation that you could spray in through the little vent holes on top of cowl and then let it set up and seal minor cowl leaks from old rust? Is this a bullshit idea? My old 1965 is in good shape body-wise and I am hesitant to try to take the entire front of the body apart to replace the old cowl panel. Just have a plastic cover over cowl air intake vents for now. I know purists will say "yuck" at this but keeps water out of cowl for now. Can see putting new cowl panel if you are doing a major restomod of course but must be an easier way to stop leaks on an old mustang that has a good body and paint otherwise. Appreciate any advice on this.

do you ever use weld-through primer on the ground flanges?
@petersonrestorations4 жыл бұрын
Yes in some cases I do
@steveosteen18153 жыл бұрын
How come you don't use weld though primer ? I see lots of rust in the future .

Did you replace the inner cowl side panel also? My 69' has a few rust spots in that area, I'm not sure how critical it is to fix.

I'm rather curious. I'm replacing the cowl panel in my 1970 Convertible. They make this cowl panel in a 1 piece unit. Is there a reason you opted for a two piece cowl panel?

Hello: I love your channel. I have a 1965 convertible Mustang. I want to know if you recommend to install the cowl panel thats comes with upper and lower panel welded or the ones thats comes in two pieces? Thanks

I noticed the fender brackets on the a-pillars were removed while replacing the cowl. Did you put them back on? No mention of this. or did you decide not to use them for the fenders.
@petersonrestorations4 жыл бұрын
Yes I welded new ones back in place, it's a key mounting spot for the fender

Very helpful video! Really love your channel especially when you show how you do these things. Do those Dynacorn cowls fit well (they're not OEM right?) or is there a lot of fitting/fabrication needed to get them to fit?

did you ever think using a spot welder ?
@petersonrestorations4 жыл бұрын
I'm more of a fan for the mig
@truthpurveyor82984 жыл бұрын
Do you ever use resistance spot welders on the edges? I know doing the mig plugs is really fast wen you are proficient, but it might be faster with the resistance welder? Really enjoy the channel.

I have not, I learned this all by mig so I just really enjoy this way for some reason
