Great example of not taking things for granted or making assumptions about dimensions.

I am always amazed at the ideas people have for modernising these engines, I was a production engineer in Dagenham engine plant, I was responsible most of the time for the OHC (we never ever called it the pinto) block and head machining. The machining of the cam bearings was a headache for quality, we should have just used an old cam 😂
@PenguinMotors8 ай бұрын
Yes back in the 80’s we mostly called the OHC too. If back then you had told me that 40 years later I would still be playing with them I would of never believed you :)

Graham, these valve guides came from another car or were specifically made for this head? Great videos 👌👍

I use cossy rods and machine the outside of the crown to + 10 of deck and leave 50mm diameter centre delivery height then work out the comp ratio as you get around 1/2 a ratio more

Hi, do you have much experience with the Essex V6 engine? I have a mk4 Zodiac (its a 3.1 instead of 3 litre) and was thinking about fitting a Newman phase 1 cam, but after seeing your video on fitting one to a Rover V8 im not so sure (peak torque on the standard cam is at 3k RPM which is nice, so I wouldn't want peak torque to be at a much higher RPM for the sake of a better top end being an auto)
@PenguinMotors10 ай бұрын
Unfortunatly, All the Essexs i have worked on have been standard unmodified ones.
@paulriggers155810 ай бұрын
my dad has a kent cam in his mk4, just the mildest one, 1 to 5.5k powerband, suits the car nice, will spin to [an indicated] 7k no bother far too easily D shape granada heads, inlet + exhaust manifolds are supposed to help as well, but we never went that far we had sufficient to tow a 5 berth caravan with reasonable power/economy with the cam, a high power electronic ignition system + stainless exhaust fitted
@guidorollard294410 ай бұрын
Essex V6 can be done, but as always what you want in limited space of what engine can do handle at stock or light mods, to 170+ HP. 250 Hp is possible out of 3100 cc. But money question it is....

Hello, how do you like the idea of installing two standard vertical carburetors from 1.6 or 2.0 Pinto? One carburetor for two cylinders, I would really like to see it.
@PenguinMotors10 ай бұрын
no off the shelf manifold exists to do that, and if you need more than a single 32/36 can provide you really need to switch to twin DCOE/IDF
@docker328310 ай бұрын
@@PenguinMotors in my country DCOE/IDF is very rare, not to mention spare parts for them, soon I will try to build a SOHC 2.0 engine on a standard camshaft, on two vertical carburetors like Weber (ОЗОН 2107) but with 22x25 channels, I will make the manifold myself, if you are interested I can provide photos when it's ready.
@PenguinMotors10 ай бұрын
interesting, but your engine will make more power with a upgraded cam shaft and one carburettor than it will using two carburettors and a standard cam

Was the taller piston much heavier than the rest?
@PenguinMotors10 ай бұрын
i didnt weigh it, but theres not enough difference to make it significantly heavier

thankyou once again tall piston or pin in wrong place?

answer in part 2 lol! ..........................................................................................it was a tall piston

I swapped a lightened flywheel in my stage 2 rover v8 drag engine , and with the lightened one in its half a second slower ... 😢 I'm going to swap ot back 😅
@PenguinMotors10 ай бұрын
The thing is the engine may be slower to accelerate on heavier flywheel but you instantly have more stored energy after a gear change
