turbo2ltr hey man. I need one of these but don't want to buy a used beat up patrol issued explorer. Where can I either buy a brand new one or one with very little mileage? Ford restricts these to fleet only purchases brand new from the dealer. I'm also open to the Chevy if needed. I'm a fellow ham so I need one. Any suggestions? Thanks buddy. 73s

The reason for the rear hatch having a button... because they usually keep their heavy gear back there. Which might consist of an AR, Ammo, medical equipment, reports, etc. So to keep it more secure, it has to have an extra deliberate step to get that door opened so someone standing behind the vehicle while the Officer is in the car can't just open it up real quick on them and gain access. You did buy a Police vehicle that was designed for Police use, not civilian use.
@primotimes99918 жыл бұрын
An FYI, you're actually lucky to NOT have keyless entry. Its quickly becoming the easiest and fastest method to steal contents of vehicles and even the entire vehicle itself. Anyone out and about should always lock thier car with the interior button and NOT use thier remote. To return to the vehicle you could then use your remote and drive away. Thieves have been known to park in common areas with code readers (cheap and readily accessible) to copy your remote's code as you lock your car. They watch you leave, then play-back your code. Easy peasey :)

Your speedometer might be "certified calibration" but that means nothing unless it has been inspected and certified by a third party company once or twice a year. Thats what it means by certified calibration. It allows police officers to ticket people for speeding by "pacing" their speed. The only way you would win the ticket is if they do not have it annually certified by a third party compamy

Almost 100K views in 3 months. Great hook for people to view. And what would you expect from a police vehicle. It's not a civilian model. But a civilian model will never keep up with this CUV. It's faster on side streets, alleys and stop light, turn right turn left chases. Again....IT'S A POLICE VEHICLE. Trust me you will love it. If you don't need the creature comforts of a civilian model. The suspension alone will sell the car to you.

So. basically, other than the more aggressive shift points, the only changes for the cop version are things that would be annoying or undesirable for civilian use. Guess it's not quite the old days anymore, where you could count on the cop version to have engine and chassis upgrades that would make it better than the best civilian version (obvious example being the Crown Victoria P71 with more power and a higher speed governor, but the old Caprice 9C1 had the Impala SS/detuned Corvette engine and apparently some additional chassis stiffening that the Impala SS didn't have).
@gary36962 жыл бұрын
No the Utility has a stainless steel (IIRC) frame stiffener added post manufacture, it has a beefed up electrical and cooling system, mine has dual air, don't know if it's a civi option or not, bunch of little things here and there.

You can activate keyless entry option with a Bluetooth obd 2 diagnostic tool and forscan. If you just want keyless entry, you can do it with around $100 including the key fob

Is remote start built in to all of them, it just has to be activated? Are there any links you can share on how to do this?

The page doesn't have the code for the explorer but when you buy the hood switch it actually says it's for explorer, so it's somewhere and it should be easy to find, the page does have the code for keyless entry tho.

Have you discovered the "pursuit mode" you can kick the transmission into with aggressive driving where it holds gears and won't upshift quickly?
@turbo2ltr8 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's the way I drive, but it seems like it's always in this mode. It's one of the things I mention in this video. I've never heard it referred to pursuit mode. There's no mention of anything special about the transmission in the manual. The PI brochure mentions the transmission is specially programmed for more aggressive driving than the civilian version which I assumed is why it always tends to hold upshifts and prematurely downshift.
@turbo2ltr8 жыл бұрын
So I was messing around yesterday and it did something that I had not experienced before, which is what I think you are talking about. On the gas heavy at highway speeds, winding the motor out, then hard on the brakes (no one in front of me, just testing them as I haven't *really* stomped on them before). It actually downshifted while I was on the brakes and stayed at a high rev after I got off them, ready for me to get back on the gas. I just coasted and eventually it upshifted but I could have gotten back on it without having to wait for it to downshift like a normal car would. Very cool! I was surprised when I got off the brake and it was revving high.

The hatch lock is because of having weapons in the back. You can add keyless aftermarket or from the dealer. You can add an aftermarket media input made by PAC. As far as the seats in the rear, they won't fold because of the rear sway bar. You can also take the right rear panel out and access a power point to add a power inverter. I believe it is an 80 amp power point.

From the up fitting side, the rear seats don’t have the option of flipping forward all the way. Just because when people like me are up fitting all the police equipment, the front partition takes up all the room the seat would need to flip forward. And the rear hatch is timed for weapons and gear, and is more of a redundancy as we usually install a timed gun lock for either an AR or 870.

It only has a 13 gallon tank, and you get about 15-20 MPG. But mine is an EcoBoost, and I don't pay for the gas, but if you are in an area with gas stations few and far between, watch out.

The difference between the speedo and the digi-speedo is across the board. My old 15 Fusion was about 2-3 MPH off between the two, so i just stayed with the digital.

"It tends to downshift too much" Again, the PCM calibration is adjusted for aggressive driving. Short shifts, downshifts for faster acceleration and all that

You should also be aware that the vehicle is not equipped with a chip transponder making it very easy to steal the vehicle. Based on the key you just shown its using Fords old 9 wafer sidebar ignition lock. This means it's very easy to pick the door locks and rip the ignition sidebar over to start the vehicle.

Very nice truck, thanks for posting. I just purchased a 2015 Ford PI sadan. I love it. I saw many civilian options, but felt that they would not have been as well serviced and taken care of as the Police version. I got mine for about $6,500. to $8k after reg and taxes in NYS. It is in super great condition and yet I got it for a super low price. The civilian versions minus all the upgraded parts would go for about $15k. Well, enjoy your new ride.

Yes we all get that I say umm a lot. No need to have every other comment complaining about it. My later videos I started editing them out. FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ No I'm not a cop. Yes there is a reason I purchased this vehicle: because it was cheap, and it had room for ham radios. No I am not trying to impersonate the police. No I am not complaining about the quirks (they have all been remedied in the next video) Yes I am very happy with the vehicle No a retail Explorer would not have been better as it has no room for radios. Yes it's cheaper than a regular explorer. I paid $24,500. Base explorers start at $32k Yes I could talk slower and say more uhhhs. But do you really want me to do that? Yes I understand why these quirks/features are there. You don't need to explain it. I'm merely pointing them out to people that may not know they were there if they bought the vehicle. No it does not have ballistic panels. But it is an available option. No I will not put a pushbar, or teardrop lights on it. I have no need for either.

I have a 2015 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility 3.7 and the issues I have are: back seat passengers can not open their door from inside, I can not connect my smart phone to use the hands free. Do you have any idea/ videos that show what I can look for behind the door panel to see if something is just disconnected? Not even going to address the phone connect issue because of the amount of wiring running everywhere! : ( I would appreciate any help you can offer on the door handle issue. Thanks!
@turbo2ltr Жыл бұрын
If you pull the door panel, it should be pretty obvious that the linkage to the handle is disconnected (and hopefully not missing). Should be a matter of just reconnecting the link bar to the handle, though I've never needed to do that job so I don't know what it looks like for sure. I looked in the upfitter guide and it didn't show any pictures or anything. Yeah the base model radio doesn't have BT.

At first I thought, "why did you buy it then?" as well. But once you mentioned wanting a radio stack, it made sense. :-) I have a 2016 Ford Explorer and have been trying to figure out the least destructive means to install radio systems as well, and have come up short. I'm not a HAM yet, but am very interested in getting in. Vehicles now days leave very little room for customization.

@@__-fm6yx I own a 2005 P74 Ford Crown Vic LX Sport. 177500mi. Used. Many people ask if it's a P71 police 🚔 model. Ford ended CVs in 2011. Crown Vics have a few +s but over time they can develop major hassles. The AC unit, the intake manifold, gas ⛽️, turns. My LX Sport handles well but I had newer Goodyear all season Assurance tires, $700.

"certified calibration speedometer", you mean it was calibrated at the factory. But eventually will need to be certified as calibrated again in order to be guaranteed calibrated? Or is it self-calibrating via GPS?
@turbo2ltr8 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it needs to be recertified periodically if it was going to be used to issue tickets.
