Ford Ranger 4.0 OHV Oxygen Sensor Replacement

Mine is a 1994, Easier to do if there is no rust on your truck. Mine was throwing codes and check engine light was going on and off.

On my '97 Ranger, they relocate the driver side sensor connector to the transmission... much easier to get to. The passenger side is a bear though, and looks even more difficult than yours. Struggling with it today, thanks for the video!

Gotta love having no rust. I've seen cars that are only a few years old in eastern Canada that have totally rusted through. its nuts (and bolts!) good vid man. a new o2 sensor should help with mileage a bit. Good tips!

I was able to remove the 18 year old flange bolts from my exhaust with a wrench and some wd40. I was even able to re-use them as they had minimal rust. I've heard about people up north who have to cut them off to replace the exhaust donut gasket. I love my Florida car haha.

How can I tell if I have 156,000 miles or 256,000 miles on my truck any clues you can give me....by the way your truck runs perfect and sounds perfect....mines getting there just need to put all and I mean ALL the tunes up in check.....even new muffler system.....maybe....I check they look just fine no rust or damage

Thanks for the video - it convinced me to take my '98 Ranger to the shop and let someone else skin knuckles, drop wires and replace the sensors in itty-bitty tight spots. No, seriously, thanks!

Other than your check engine light going off, what symptoms did your Ranger have that pointed to an issue with the O2 sensors? Was your engine backfiring, missing, or had a smell of unburned gas? Trying to debug similar symptoms on my 94 Mazda B4000 with the same engine. Thanks

+hanksranger Great. Thanks. Sounds similar to what I'm facing except that my check engine light has yet to come on. Debugging issues like this are difficult having the older model ECM that doesn't provide all of the neat diagnostic stuff that the newer models can show today. Thanks

If you still have the abs and brake lights coming on it could be as simple as low brake fluid or rear abs sensor in the diff.

yea if I still had the truck id check that, but I never did while I had it, I figure it must have been corrosion on the connector for that sensor, because I did check everything else, fluid was always topped off

My abs light would come on even after changing the sensors and changing all of the brake fluid. It surprisingly went away when I changed the rotors along with the brakes, it turns out the tone rings on the factory rotors were faulty. Imagine that.

You could have tied a string on plug in part of sensor. Tie off to wipe blade than screw o2 sensor in exhaust pipe. Now you are able to untie and plug in without fishing for o2 line!
