I'm going through a similar problem, I just wrecked my 99 Mazda b 3000, and got an 01 ranger for 800$ deal, right, so I'm switching alot for Mazda 5o ranger( since there twins, oh the Mazda is a Troy Lee design it was my baby, hinse why I wanna keep as much as possible, well when I die my cluster the thing wouldn't keep a charge. . . WTF, long story short thank you soooooo much!

It's android phone with torque app installed on it, android phones can be bought online or in retail stores that sells phones.

Wow, very interesting to know this. Ive had a ton of charging issues in the past, and switched the alternator after going through a few batteries. My worst electrical mystery just turned out to be a corrupted battery terminal which was hidden inside the sheathing. But this instrument panel issue could cause some very unnecessary repairs. The earlier Rangers had some electronic module screw ups that Ford never acknowledged or repaired. I never could get my dome light to turn on or off when it should, so I had to disconnect it, and I still have to live in the dark.

the idiot light is part of the charging circut

Your battery light in the dash is also part of the alternator circuit. If the light is not working no charge to battery will happen. Your dash lights come on as a pre check of systems before your engine start.
