Cosseh. On the subject of Clarkson, there is an interesting story behind why he has so much affection for them (from his Sunday newspaper column). He got a phone call late one night to say his dad was seriously ill in hospital up in Sheffield and wasn't expected to live much longer. He absolutely hammered the car up from London, doing speeds that even he won't admit to. He got there in time and had a few minutes to say his goodbyes. However many faster, more exotic or somehow "better" cars there are on the planet, that sort of thing matters, and it stays with you.

My abiding memory of the Escort RS Cosworth was back in my teenage years. My mates & I were out on our bikes when we heard the screeching of tyres and a loud bang, we turned our heads to see a MKII Cavalier SRi had lost control and went straight into a fence. We rushed over to see 4 rather sheepish teens getting out of their (I assume) Vauxhall. The owner of the fence came out of his farm house, looking rather annoyed at his damaged property. He turned around, went back to his house and retrieved his Escort RS Cosworth, in exactly the same spec as the one in the video, & parked it up just ahead of the Cavalier. Straight away I knew why he'd done this, basically there's no way these guys were going to even think of reversing out & driving off. The power & presence of the Cossie was enough to keep them there until the police arrived. It was the UK equivalent of keeping a gun trained on them, utterly brilliant.

This is spot on. There was a strange mystique about a cossie. I had a fast rsturbo that could easily beat a standard cossie but the question and mystique was always, is this standard or 3bar map with greens or some T4 8 injector weapon. You didnt know if it was about to be all show and not much go, or pretty damn fast or ultra warp speed if it was a full touring car spec build. That and you always had doubts about their owners and how nuts they were :).

Bro. I could totally see this reaction coming, considering you thought it would be horrible. When Ford decides to really put their foot down on a performance production car, they rarely disappoint in my mind. Bad reputation or not, they absolutely kill when it comes to the "advanced performance" when they feel like it. The closest I ever owned like that was a 1993 Taurus SHO w/ the Yamaha engine. Comfortable, faster than you'd ever expect, smooth ride, and great handling. Like it 🤘😝🤘

These Cossies were my favourite but I do remember Essex Police (Colchester?) had a grey Sierra RS Cosworth and you could hear the dump valve at the bottom end of the high street. It wasn't a subtle car. It did pull over lots of boy racers though. Their main reasoning for having them though was proably to do with the fact that they had to patrol the A12... basically a drag strip between Suffolk and London linking the capital to the port of Felixstowe.... ie., a very busy drugs route. I remember they had one of the very last Vauxhall Senators on the road, they loved them so much. M-reg, yes, M-reg. That late. I believe it was a metallic burgundy in colour. This is also the force that bought Subaru Imprezas and Skoda Octavia VRS cars to patrol their patch. Crazy.

To all new generation's youngsters: Watch carefully this video and try to appreciate and imagine these good old days that you'll never experience unfortunately. The days of pure metal and pure raw bensin fueled combustion engines. And remember that if a Mad Max era comes...all fancy electrical hypercars shall be sitted and covered in dust in deserts, while all the cosys and their siblings shall be passing by in all their glory. Petrol fueled cars = Pure old bad ass machines. Oh that smell of bensin and warm metal...

Out of all of my evos not one blown head gasket, not one drive shaft broken, not one gear box failure and btw I was running a twin plate carbon clutch and abused that car . Now tell me I have no clue .
