Iam 54 and anybody driving a new one of these in the 80's was a proper geezer. I remember thinking ,over 200bhp is impossible in a 2 ltr lump for the road.

I had the XR4i with the 2.8 V6 and i loved it with only 150bhp. I really thought it was fast till I once drove the Cosworth. Lovely cars.

I lived in the UK in '91 & '92 (Ashby de la Zouch and Cirencester) and a guy had a white one. This American was very envious we didn't get them in the US. That wing and power level (for the time) were amazing. Great to see you guys so excited by it.

They are great cars, I had a 1988 Sapphire RS Cosworth back in the day, used it as my daily driver to get to work Bournemouth to Southampton. Used to love going via the new forest (before the 40 limits) to avaoid the traffic on the A31. Had many a sideways moment on the St Pauls's roundabout on the Spur Road... Happy times.

These are lovely, we have at least 2 here in Madeira Island, a flat grey one and a white one. Rare to see but when I do I get a speed bump in my pants. Escort cossie's are a bit more common here, but we probably have less than 10 of them. Homologation cars are royalty down here, thanks to the Madeira Island Rally. Saw a Renault 5 turbo 2 whizz by just a few months ago :D Cheers for the vid!

I think these were bought into Australia as a low volume import. Not through Ford. $100k comes to mind back in late 80s. They raced in our A touring car championship, I believe with some success. I wanted one so badly. Oh well.

Guys, just a little design history on this car... Frank Stephenson, designer of the McLaren P1, 675LT and 720 S among others was solely responsible for the rear wing. His inspiration came from a world war one combat bi-plane. In case you haven't seen it - Chasing Perfect on Netflix is an awesome documentary on him. Cool vid as always by the way.

Love the video. But to DRIVE one of these you need to launch it at 3000rpm and keep the revs up, very little lag then. The Rs500 was a whole different animal turbo kicked in at 4500 rpm and it revved to 7000
