Ford Starting System Fault - Causes & How to Fix

1/6/24: A trip way up into the forest in WA state in my 2013 F150 4x4 5L V8. No cell service, it was cold and snowing,. After visiting a beautiful waterfall we get back into truck - and the key turns, but I get a surprise display message "Starting System Fault". I disconnected the bat. for 15 minutes and still no resolution to the "Starting System Fault". Hours later I was eventually able to dispatch an AAA tow and 4 + hours later and 50 miles I get my truck towed to my home. The next morning I watched the above KZbin video and the problem was fixed with in 5 to 10 minutes. The problem was in-fact a loose male-female plug connection/clamp in the PASSENGER SIDE fuse panel as VERBALLY described at the 2 minute mark on this video. The video shows the fuse box under the hood but they're actually talking about the passenger side fuse panel. BTW: The key fobs would NOT lock/unlock the doors and I really thought the fobs lost it's signal with the ignition or the fob bat. was dead. It was as if the key fobs were dead and maybe the problem. But the key fobs were actually all ok.

No Rich, I have not gotten the Starting Fault message anymore. The truck is working well since I resecured that loose connector on 1/6.

You said the fob wasn't locking your doors? I've been noticing that sometimes I'll open the door forgetting that I locked it and set the alarm, and the door would open and alarm go off. I've been having this same issue with my 2014 v6 Eco boost. I've been able to get it to start every time luckily but I need to figure this out soon.

@@patrickhurley7617 re the key fobs - try securing-up the electrical connection(s) in the passenger side fuse panel. Your issue is likely something totally different though, maybe the signal between the fob and truck sensor need to be reset and battery replaced. Perhaps at some point you were in close proximity of a car thief that was able to partially scramble or disrupt your wireless fob/sensor transmission signal.

I’ve had this issue serval times. The fuse panel inside has a large fuse behind a plastic or wire housing. Wiggle that fuse then try to start. Works every time.

Dead key battery on my moms 2011 f150 Texas edition I was watching this video and having intermittent issues with starting and occasionally it would start so I knew it couldn’t be something like a blown fuse swapped relays around and no changes. Then when he said starting system has something to do with the keys I was like aha tried to lock and unlock with key and nothing happened so I swapped out my 2002 Tahoe fob battery with her key and it fired right up.
