Ford Sync Apple CarPlay Not Working

Hey, i connect the usb and i got the same what you have at 1:13 but after 911 assist carplay doesnt show... on iphone 11 and now on 15 pro doesnt work to (IOS 17.3). I'll try reset computer but doesnt work... What do you recommended?

@@Wns1337 If I was looking at it I’d probably try plugging in a different USB hub first. Assuming that didn’t fix it I’d probably try updating the Sync system. If that didn’t fix it I’d probably replace the APIM / Sync module. I have had to replace a couple of sync modules over CarPlay not working.

2018 Ford F150 here. When I plug into the USB-A plug it says it’s charging then goes off and back on over and over. Both USB-A plug act the same way, so it seems like it’s not getting a good connection. Done the reset by pushing the two buttons at the same time and the master reset and still functions the same way. Looking to replace the media hub. Do you agree that’s the next step?

Probably the hub. Have you tried a different device and cable just to make sure it’s not an issue with those?

Yes. I tried a different cord for my phone and my wife’s phone is even another cord and none of them work, so I ordered the hub. Should be here this afternoon. Thanks

After installing a new media hub, the problem still persists. The phone goes in and out of charging and never connects to the truck for car play. It used to work fine.

I updated the Sync3 system with someone else’s KZbin video and it fixed it and I got a free update. All good now.

My car won’t delete old contacts from Bluetooth or apple carplay preferences. If I try deleting any old phones or friends phones it goes right back into the system if I do a master reset or turn the car off. Is really frustrating because the only people that can use CarPlay are those old contacts that won’t go away

Even a master reset doesn’t clear it? Try unhooking the cat battery for at least 30 minutes. Then try performing a master reset again. If that doesn’t work try performing two soft reboots (hold in the power button and seek up button at the same time) one immediately after the other. Then immediately try a master reset again.

I can not figure mine out. Software is sync 3 3.0. Installed the new usb hub, plugged in with official apple lightning cable. No carplay anything. Just normal functionality like with the original usb module. Have even tried out 2 different replacement usb modules but no luck. Very frustrating.

It could be an issue with the sync module itself. What year and model?

@@CarShopTalk 2016 expedition. I think it might be the actual module since I have tried multiple usb hubs

@@LifetimeShred i know car play wasn’t available until? 2018 I think, on the F150. You could get it to work on some of the early ones by replacing the USB hub with the later USB hub. It’s sync 3, so I think it could be made to work, but I don’t think it did originally on that vehicle. Are you installing the same as original USB hub? I’m thinking the part number on the later hub started with an “H”, but don’t quote me on that.

@@LifetimeShred it almost has to be the sync module then unless there’s an issue with the cable. Does it recognize flash drives etc in the media hub?

Did you replace just the housing or the cord on the back as well? I’m having the same issue in my 2018 f150

Just the hub, I didn’t replace the cord to it.

@@thecodycramer I think the base number on all the media hubs is 19A387.. the full part number on the one we installed was HC3Z-19A387-C.

Reset the radio, master reset? I’d try performing another master reset and then try it again.

Apple car play stopped working after I forgot to turn off my VPN. Turned off, works just like it should.

Shouldn’t CarPlay come up even without usb?

On the newer stuff. I think wireless CarPlay has only been available for a couple model years on Ford OEM systems.

I have seen a couple of bad sync modules / APIMs cause CarPlay not to run. Does it recognize data or music through the usb port?

@@CarShopTalkhaving this same issue, and it does not recognize usb as an input nor does it charge my phone when I plug it into the usb hub. Is it worth trying to replace the wiring to the usb hub, or is it safe to assume my APIM is bad?

@@_amberwade I’ve seen the USB hub or the APIM cause that. I usually plug in a USB hub to determine which is the problem. I wish there was a better way.
