Ford Territory boot lock fail and leaks

How to repair the lock actuator for the rear window latch and the window seal.
*EDIT* - also check your high stop brake light. Nick pointed out this common leak point in the comments. Mine was leaking there two. Just two screws holding it in.**

Looking at a 2011 SZ Territory. I expect it is the same for the SX and SY

A second hand lock actuator can do the trick if it's not rusty.
I am curious if this VW part is the same : 3B5 827 061 C
I see it listed on spareto, ebay and aliexpress under that part number.
But I have not tried it myself

I had this problem, but I couldn't find a replacement actuator for a reasonable price. There is another solution: Actuators on earlier Territories (SX, SY) are proper solenoids that are much more substantial and better sealed, and the window glass actuator is mounted horizontally so water doesn't run down it. The connectors on the actuators themselves are different, but the entire boot wiring loom from an earlier territory can be swapped into an SZ from the connector just below the brake light - the whole loom from an SX with both actuators was 1/3 of the price of an SZ actuator from a Ford wrecker in Melbourne. Water can also get in around the brake light, which has a pretty insubstantial foam seal - dead LEDs in the brake light are a giveaway here.

You were bang on - checked my high stop tail light and, sure enough, it was leaking there too. As well as dirt getting past the pathetic seal, I could see streaks where the water was dripping in. And very easy to remove - just 2 screws.

Great video, thanks for sharing! My 2013 territory has water on the boot floor in winter. I'll BDO your trick of cutting the seal and inserting some off cut from the wreckers.

My 2013 SZ has rusted through the rear floor umder the plastic trim that the tie down points hold down near the tailgate striker. A 6 inch long hole about half an inch tall. And thats just on a year after I treated the whole area with rust converter and painted it all. We habe had copious amounts of rain in soithern NSW.

If you pull up the carpet from the sides after removing the scuff plates, you will also find water that leaks from the windows onto the foam liner inside the door cards, that slowly leaks down onto the door rubber then drips down into the carpet with a good 2 to 3 hour delay. after a month of heavy rain, I discovered the issue. I then removed the interior and vacuumed 70L of water from the floor pan and the thick NVH foam that fills the space between the carpet and the floor pan. unless the design of the doors has changed from SZ to SZ mkii. This was the cause of my issues with the AWD module and the TCM that live under the seat that I commented on one of your videos. The moisture from the leaking doors made 1 of 3 cable crimps (wrapped in thick HD blue tape) in the loom under the passenger seat. the main power feed to all the modules uses a crimp that clamps 4 cables together. The crimp turns green with corrosion and the cables start to lose continuity eventually the crimp and the cables turn to green dust. Cut the black tape back, remove the blue tape (closest to the carpet), strip the cables back, twist them together and solder then joint. Now all good after 2 months of fault finding and scouring the net and factory service manual. I couldn't find any local auto electricians who even knew what the issue was. I got in contact with a guy in Brisbane through the Ford forums, with the same issues and he found a gun Auto sparky who fixed it in 2 minutes. My local dealer has a 3 month wait time for any workshop bookings, so looking at that wait time on top of the 9 weeks the car had been out of action, I purchased a petrol SZ in the meantime and found the fix a week later haha.

They had a long time through the production run of the territory to get something basic like door seals right. And lots of people reporting door leaks.

​@@thomaswilding8818 well in my SZ territorys (2012 ans 2013) there is no plastic liner, only foam due to needing two large cut outs in the liner for hooks and the base of the door card to rest the weight of the card in place while the electrical connectors are seated during assembly. Must have had pensioners on the assembly line, as the cards are light. I cut off the hooks with a grinder and lined the opening with door plastic sheets and butyl tape, leaving enough slack for the foam and speakers to sink into place. The speaker protrudes furthest into the void cand catches water coming off the glass, aswell as the intrusion bar, deflecting water as is falls off the glass heading down to the drain holes. The deflected water splashes onto the foam, then takes an hour or more to soak down and start leaking past the rubber seal on the mating face of the door card.

I replaced my rear window rubber after watching this thanks for the tip, replacing it also fixed the glass section of the tailgate rattling against the lower section, I had to put dishwashing sponges in-between to stop the rattle until now

@christinalucas1401 same same. Go to about 3:00 in this video. Notice there are 2 actuators. One actuator opens the glass. The other one opens the boot latch. Same part number, just pulling in different directions.

How do you remove the lower trim on Territory tailgate to release white clips?

With those 3 handles removed, it's a case of popping the panel off by hand - pull straight out. Always the risk of breaking something with interior panels, especially when you can't see what's holding it in till after you have it off. Notice in the picture with the panel off that the clips are all pointing 90 degrees to the panel - so pull straight out. Suggest starting at the bottom and working along the edge.

How do you open the boot lock after no longer working due to water when the hutch also doesn't work?

Some territories had an emergency pull chord for opening boot from the inside. Those with a cage I think. Otherwise the only way I can think of would be to drill a hole in the plastic liner on the inside. Poke a wire hook through and fish for one of those cables.

Hey Thomas .. bought an old wear and tear 2005 Territory Tx And ... had some heavy rain the other day leaks come in but my lock is not locking on boot.. wont close can release bt not working the lock to close boot...where abouts is my boot release on the car... i cant even find where it is? Do u have any idea where i can find? in case its the reason why the boot lock is not working properly? or my electrical wiring? or something else. Tried google for any help on boot release button/lever.

Only territories fitted with a cage had the emergency chords. That's located inside of boot behind release. No other boot release were fitted. Problem, aye

@@thomaswilding8818 yep unfortunately I gathered that was the case ... It's all electrical with the locking system bt I guess I'll take into mechanics to look at.
