2003 expedition had it 2 yrs now. been having this problem all along and nobody else has figured it out. just various alternatives like just don't use the wiper because the back window doesn't lock. hmm. thank you! you just solved my repair to make it go away once and for all! best of all - I can do it myself!

Thank you. I have the same problem with a 2003 Ford Explorer except it won't unlock. Trying to figure out hiw to get it unlocked so I can take the panel loose.

Joan Hipp-Martin That is a complicated job if you can't get the door open. Try jiggling the handle and pushing the lock at the same time.

Great presentation. But my lift gate glass won't unlock. I have disassembled the wiper assembly and lifted the glass out of the way but cannot get the interior panel out of the way to access electric latch. In your comments you say this repair is complicated. It would be great to know how to proceed. This must be a common problem. Any suggestions?

It was those two plastic screws that were throwing me off. I did not want to break anything and spend a millions dollars to replace the panel too. I had to get in there to pop out dent and install a new piece that holds the license light and door switch. A+ thank you. 2004 Ford Expedition, the wife backed out of the garage with the hatch in the up position. It dented the outer door and blew that cover/piece off.

My Mercury Mariner 2006 liftgate top window it does latch, the problem is when I press the button from the door or from the key control it won't lock, all doors locked but liftgate top window won't, any idea what is going on? Thanks.

It seem that the cable goes up to the front panel so I am uncertain that has anything to do with the door control or maybe? Please help, thanks.

My 06 navigator rear window /glass secure latch fell off. Can you do a video on what adhesive to use and any tips? My latch on window is fine and at vehicle. I've tried to use liquid super glue, defroster adhesive amd E6000. Worked for 1 day and fell off again. I like doing everything myself. I'm ready to take to dealer and have them re attach latch to window. I can't find anything on line/utube.

Installed a new one on mine but it still takes about 5 tries to close it. Went and got a different one and it’s doing the same thing. I’m going to try replacing the striker next. Any advice?

We are having the same issue on a work vehicle with the rear glass. Do you know if this would cause the doors not to lock? When the vehicle is in motion the door locks will not operate also.

My old 2007 Ford Expedition will not lock the doors from the inside door buttons, if liftgate is ajar. But it will by key bob, presumably from when I am outside the vehicle.

My glass is closing tight but the switch to the "Door Ajar" light in the dash stays on and the rear wiper won't work. So if I eliminate that stupid switch by shorting the two wires to each other will solve my problems, You think? if I replace the switch, it will work normally until down the road it decides to malfunction again. So shorting the wires should be a forever fix.

I replace the door lock mechanism and it still doesn't lock I've noticed when I hit the remote control window lock button I hear a click down by the fuse box is there a relay of some sorts in there that you know of

Jim is there a way to open the hatch window open to get to the unlock button under the light assembly ? I was able to open it one time while having the lift gate apart for replacement ( part on order at Ford ) Vehicle is 2003 Ford Expidition. I am guessing the button is defective as it did open once and relocked-it's self. I see two nuts holding the light assy and guess they will have to be removed ?

You will need to check the main switch . You don't have the child guard on right?

Folks just got a 2012 Navigator, same problem and same exact locking mechanism. Even the plastic trim piece is identical. If the dealer doesn't cover it then I'll just manually lock the glass and bypass the sensor I just hope this isn't a sign of what's to come with this truck
