The use case for a camper van - at least for us - is to have a big every day vehical (or the be more precise - weekend vehicle as we do most things by bicycle) for the all the stuff 4 people need to take with them and to have a base for a nice camp ground on the mediterran to enjoy the Summer holidays. If you use all the facilities on the camp ground the camper van is really only used for sleeping, storing stuff and the odd shower.

We are also leaning towards this use case as opposed to having a van exclusively for trips. It's probably not feasible for many to afford a separate vehicle for just this purpose. While we have mainly stealth camped on our trips, we utilized paid camping spots going through Switzerland and it was affordable and very comfortable.

I think you can do longer trips. You need to be organised and it doesn't take so long to move stuff around. Even with a car seat. Easy to take a seat out if you have isofix and access the storage. You make sure you don't need anything from the bench seat until you're removing the carseat anyway. The table easily folds away. At least in the nugget or nugget plus you can still sit downstairs when the bed is down and can still access the kitchen. No need for hotels even on longer trips!

There are quite a few factors that have to be understood when making that assertion. Can you take longer trips? Sure, of course! However, for us it was a bit out of our comfort zone with 3 kids for more than 3-4 days because of the time it takes for simple tasks with a full van. You CAN do it, but until you try it, you don't know. Is that to say it's not worth it? Not at all! We had a wonderful time and already have more trips planned. It's just about having the right expectations. In comparison, my wife and I went just the two of us and that was more like an adventurous vacation than a chore with limited space and 3 kids. Another factor is certainly what the weather is like outside and where you are. If you're spending time outside such as at the beach all day, then it's a wonderful thing to have a campervan to climb into and relax away from elements, make lunch on the spot, etc.

@@hudsoncrew I get that we all camp differently so what is one person's comfort is another person's nightmare. It's just my view it can work...but if you find it doesn't then a hybrid trip must be the answer. Age of children is also a factor I guess.

We have a Nugget Plus and three small children aged 12, 9 and 5. Yes you have to be organised but we have had many weekends away and have done several trips of two, three and even more weeks! No problems, took a good few of those shorter trips to work out the best way of doing things but it’s all good. Wonderful memories made and been to so many places.

We switched from a Chausson GA627 to the Ford Nugget (just for rent) with 3 Kids (1y, 7y, 9y) an start travelling in a few weeks. The GA627 was way to big and we didn't needed so much space and were outside most of the time. This time we try a van which is 2 sizes smaller (camper vans like Grand California are in between) and I'm curious about it xD Schöne Grüße aus Berlin ;)

I would like kids car seat at the front. This would allow you access to the under seat storage.

That's a valid alternative. I prefer my wife take the front passenger seat though.

Hi, does it have 220V outlet which can be used without external connection? Like the one that you have in the Surfer Suite? Thanks

What’s about fuel consumption?
@hudsoncrew Жыл бұрын
For our use, the VW and Marco Polo ranged from 8.1-8.5 liters per 100km and this Ford Transit Nugget was around 8.9-9.4 liters per 100km.

Leave children with grandparents..

This option is a luxury for some : ) We had this option and took advantage of it on one of our trips. I look forward to doing it again. I just don't know how often as grandparents are in different countries for our kids.
