The rally-cross Transit was put together by Ford Apprentices. It was the project for the 2nd-year lads in the year ahead of mine. It later got chrome side-pipes and was raced against stock cars at Walthamstow Stadium. I was there, I helped push it on to the track from the transporter.

At the time, virtually all thefts and robberies or any crime that involved moving a quantity of stuff or people were carried out using Ford Transits because they were fast and handled like cars - ideal for getaways. There was really nothing like them anywhere.

1 . First part was shot on Chelmsford high street - maybe because it was the nearest town their Boreham test track and Boreham house HQ ? . 2 . That groovy music was fantastic .

I'm sure they used the same voice-over guy for all the adverts before films in the cinema in the 70's and 80's. Pearl & dean must have had him locked up in a dungeon feeding him bread and water while he churned out 30 second adverts for window blind shops and local indian restaurants

Handles like a car? I don't know but current Transits are said to handle like trucks. Definitely not like vans but still like commercial vehicles.
