Ford TW25 Oil and Filter Change

Lube is the name of the game. It doesn't last forever, so we have to change it out. Friction and heat are the worst enemy. Trannies and gear boxes don't get as hot as engines, so we can skate by a while longer before replacing that oil. One odd note, the front hubs aren't vented, which is hard because they are turning, so they build up pressure, which eventually will cause oil seepage.

I took the bolt and cap in the center of the manual fuel pump off too. Same crap that was in the bottom of the fuel filter bowls was in their too.

Next time you are in town get you a box of those nitrile rubber gloves. Makes clean up a lot easier. Don't get that burnt motor oil smell on your hands. Oil and fuel filter changes are the life of an engine. Change it often or at least when you are supposed to and use good oil and filters. All my stuff gets it at 100 hours regardless.

There's a theory that the back-flow and over-pressure valves work better if their not full of metal shavings. There's also a theory that engines shouldn't produce metal shavings. There's ALSO an old patent for an oil-filter-offset device that lets you drain it and the upper channels through a hose. I had one of those a long time ago on a generator.

I'm not sure on the 6 cylinder engines but on my 7710 the original engine had that style in line injection pump and that has oil that should be changed. The replacement engine has a rotary injection pump and doesn't have any need. I was told its recommended to be changed because of possible leak off and the level getting over full could cause damage. There should be a 3/8 headed plug on the bottom to drain, a 3/8 headed plug on the side to check the level, and 3/4 on top by the lines to fill.

Our 6610 has that. The tw is plumbed into the engine oil.

I agree with Johnnyholland at your young age you should wear rubber gloves for that chore, the doctors say there are some real nasty chemicals in used motor oil or any petroleum products and they get into your bloodstream and accumulate in your liver and kidneys over time......not good.
