The scene of Ford crying is my favourite probably, because at first it's comedic and you're thinking that he's just pissed himself he's so scared. But then you realize that he's crying because he misses his Dad and wished he was there just totally flips the scene on its head

Henry Ford was just a businessman making a product. He didn't have a whole lot of passion for cars. Edsel, Henry II's father, died young of stomach cancer. He was passionate about cars. He put together the Lincoln and Mercury divisions of Ford.

Huge loss among many unfortunately, he died 6 weeks after Giuseppe Farina (the first F1 champion), 8 months before Lorenzo Bandini (F1 and Le Mans race winner and the main Ferrari driver in the movie) and 2 years before Jim Clark, one of the few drivers who could pretend to be the GOAT of motorsports. Ford even lost one of it's drivers in a crash during the practice of the 24h Ken almost won. Death was everywhere in those decades of motorsport.

In 1955, there was a terrible crash at Le Mans where vehicle debris was launched into the crowd only 2.5 hours into the race. Over 80 people died, 120 injured and the race organizes decided not to cancel the race. There were people on the opposite side of the track that knew there had been an accident but didn’t know how severe. The organizers were heavily criticized, but they said that they chose not to cancel the race in order to keep most of the audience busy watching rather than leaving and blocking the roads for the emergency response vehicles. Absolutely insane day in racing sports.

It is weirdly cut (one of the only bad cuts in the movie), but Ford II was NOT talking to the workers on the line, he's addressing the suits with his "you're fired if you don't come up with an idea tomorrow" speech. He just wants to make sure the car builders SEE him do it.

As a car nut, every time I watch this movie, I get emotional. I can feel the passion from the acting and the story all together. Sure there are things that were exaggerated a bit but overall, it's a damn good movie and give you small hints into who Shelby and Miles were as racers and as men. Also I was so gitty watching the Camaro running through Le Mans this year, it was a sight to see and hear. Andddd I can't wait for next year's Le Mans. Ford is making a return with the Mustang GT3. EXCITING!! I freaking love cars and always will. Thanks for sharing~

And all that's left is a body moving through space and time. 7,000 RPM, that's where you meet it. You feel it coming; it creeps up on you, close in your ear. Can i ask you a question, the only question that matters...... who are you?."A good racer is worth their weight in gold but a good racer that knows their car like the back of their hand is priceless! Only Ken Miles could have pushed the car that far because he knew what that engine could handle* The racing scenes in this movie make Fast & Furious look like a Disney movie. I could watch this movie and listen to the soundtrack over & over & over again a million times and i'll NEVER get tired of it. I don't care what anyone else thinks, but i can't stress enough that this was is THE pinnacle of "The Theatre Experience", the energy, the SFX, the emotions, everything! was truly built for the setting. Bale as Ken Miles has become so iconic to me i think it even tops even his performance as Batman. Heck!... Matt Damon should've won an Oscar just for chewing gum, he does it like a boss!. They couldn't of casted anyone better for our duo. They have possibly the best chemistry in history. A good racer is worth their weight in gold, but a good racer that knows their car like the back of their hand is priceless!. Only Ken Miles could have pushed the car that far because he knew what the engine could handle. It really is sad that back then and even today he doesn't get the fame & appreciation he deserves, but thanks to this movie all new generations will know about this legend, first triple crown winner!. R.I.P.❤‍🩹 This movie became one of my all time favourites of any genre, nothing ever beats those based off the true events in real life, and i don’t think any movie can take it's place anytime soon or forever. 🏁❤‍🔥❤‍🔥❤‍🔥

Enzo Ferrari was his own worst enemy in so many ways. Apart from this episode with Ford, he also was responsible for creating his most direct adversary, Ferruccio Lamborghini. Back then, Lamborghini made tractors (still do, so far as I know), but Ferruccio Lamborghini bought a Ferrari sports car for his wife. They both hated some things about it, so Ferruccio took it back to Enzo Ferrari and asked for some changes, which was a fairly common occurrence in a hand built car. For whatever reason, the two got into a heated argument and Ferruccio went home and formed his own sports car company then and there. The Lamborghini car company made some of the most beautiful and influential sports cars of the last 50+ years, really starting with the Miura, but going to the Countach, which was the most celebrated exotic sports car of the late 70s and 80s, before being replaced with the Diablo. Other models of Lamborghini were also built during this time that were very gorgeous. Sorry to ramble, but I love how much powerful personalities can adversely affect the course of a corporation. Cheers!

The burger joint where Shelby meets Ken to discuss driving for him is just around the corner from where I live. Great reaction, guys! One fun fact that deserves serious appreciation: computers didn't come anywhere near the effects department. All the racing effects, including all the crashes and collisions, are the good old fashioned real deal. The only visual effects used was done to paint in the grandstands, signs, crowds, etc. Easily the best use of practical effects since Star Wars 40 years ago and Ford v Ferrari wasn't even nominated.

Probably one of the first disasters I've seen on TV when I was a kid was a documentary of this 1950's crash at the 24 hours of Le Mans, where the driver and dozens of spectators were just... gone. So many lives lost. Such a horrible thing to see and comprehend as a child. Watched this in the theater with a *_really_* strong appreciation of how incredibly dangerous motorsports racing could be, especially back in those days. _Ford v Ferrari_ definitely has to be one of the best racing movies ever made -- not just because of the race, but as a constant ironic reminder of how valuable one's life is.

Late to the party, but still want to note: The GT40 was TECHNICALLY NOT the first/only American-made car to win Le Mans. Though much of its development was done over here, the GT40 was built in the UK. Moreover, it only won in 66, 68, and 69. In 1967, the race was won by the Mk IV, a new design derived from the J-Car(which Miles was testing when he had his fatal accident) that was genuinely entirely American built. The winning car that year was also driven by the all-American driver lineup of Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt. Sure, it's kinda nitpicky to dispute the GT40's status as American vs UK built when you really look at things, but it is an interesting distinction, and it does NOT diminish the legend either way.

They got rid of the "running" start after Jackie Ickx, who though it was dangerous (drivers would race with no belts for half a lap), strolled across to his car and won anyway. Also, that ain't Christian Bales' accent. He's playing a Birmingham accent as that's what Ken sounded like.

Ken's point about "the perfect lap" is so much more relevant that people think or give it credit for, especially nowadays, and within that, especially in the world of F1 racing with all the regulation tightenings lately and how everyone is looking for innovation.... and, outside that, in the general everyday world, with what pertains to AI and definitions, of all types. "the perfect lap", when you work it down, is the most efficient way to lap a track... and that in itself translates to, as Ken puts it, every gear change, every corner, every break, etc. so, the moment you've found "the perfect lap", the only way to perfect that is to remove whatever doesn't make the difference.... for example, the driver, you can replace with a computer.... the canopy, useless with no driver... all you need is four wheels to sit the chassis onto, and the engine to move it. and that, is what is being approached in the world of F1: remove the refueling, remove the custom tire design, remove the turbo design, remove the gear customization... sooner than later you'll arrive to *the* absolute true most-efficient way to design the ultimate racing car, down to the atom size thickness of each part. and when that happens... what then? who makes the difference? ... the driver. so, teams who would race across the board with the one most copy-pasted blueprint for car and would try to save weight, would start recruiting drivers thinner and thinner still to where the weight of the driver ultimately approaches zero... and then, you would have effectively removed the driver from the equation. now, take that model, and consider the modern world as it is lately, with AI entering the picture. all of that, from that one line: "out there, there's perfection." so, what's actually the cost of *_"the perfect"_* anything?

When y'all were talking spectators and hay bales? Look up the '55 LeMans race. The most horrific crash that ever happened in motorsports, imho. The event changed LeMans and racing in a significant way. Thank heaven! Formula One, LeMans/endurance racing, and NASCAR are totally different today in terms of driver safety, track layout/condition, machines/materials, and technology/engineering. Spectator safety and medical facilities are major factors as well. Racing during the era depicted in this great film represented a tougher, more brutal time in racing. It took a boatload of courage to climb into the cockpit of those cars. There was a sense of glamour, and dare I say, a romantic aura that surrounded the sport back then. There was a true sentimental feeling...a lot of great drivers died. My dad and my brother were gearheads...I was raised GM and Chevy. Our tractors were Fords. I loved this film! I enjoyed your reactions very much. Thank you!👏👏👏

Edsel Ford, Henry Ford II's father, and Henry Ford's son basically worked himself to death running the company and overseeing its wartime production, and passed away at a young age. He never got to see what the Ford Company would become, nor fulfill his own dreams for what he wanted to develop. As such, I find it completely believable that Henry Ford II was obsessed with living up to the legacy he inherited, and to make the company into something his father would have wanted to see.

as a racing fan and someone who is racing my self I just want to say that this movie is literally the best movie in the world even if they took some liberties. Also Fun Fact: in Le Mans as well as other 24hr races around the world like the 24h of Daytona or the 24h of Spa Francorchamps teams will still change the whole brake assembly one their cars, though usually only on the GT3 cars. another thing as well, I would have loved if Ken did win Le Mans cause he deserved the win, but if the black and white number 2 Gt40 with Bruce McLaren driving didn't win then we probably wouldn't have McLaren as a car company.

you guys have no idea what its like to do 140. ken miles was doing 220-230 consistently throughout certain parts of the track. it truly is an ascension of the human experience. there is nothing like it.

Ford went back a few years ago (on the anniversary of this win) and they won again, in a landslide. They completely redesigned the GT40 and dominated

Excellent movie. Bale doesn't quite nail the accent, Brummie is very hard to mimic without either missing entirely or coming across as parody, but he does a decent job. Also his son wears an Aston Villa football shirt in the early stages of Le Mans, the club local hits dad and the greatest team in the world :)

Imagine if they hadn't stolen the Le Mans victory from Ken Miles, and it had been Miles instead of McLaren who had gone on to found his own racing car company and team. In a different universe, or the hereafter perhaps.

Le Mans is full of funky tricks like changing the entire brake assembly, in 2000 Audi manage to build their car such that they could change and entire rear assembly consisting of the gearbox, differential, and entire rear suspension and they managed to do it in about 4 minutes, when normally, most cars were looking to get something like that done somewhere between 1 and 3 hours. There's a couple things that are played up like Ford execs hating Miles, they didn't really have an opinion on him, and the finish wasn't malicious either even though the film plays it up, but its a movie its supposed to be fun. But yeah its interesting that the Americans are the underdogs, yeah by that point Le Mans had been won by Ferraris, before that Aston Martins and Mercedes. After the GT40 it got dominated by Porsche, they've won the most Le Mans 24 hours, with 19, and then Audi won damn near every race from like 2000 til they left in 2016. Also yeah SEGA GT 2002, I had that one too, always drove the NSX in that game. It was kindof just Gran Turismo at home, but it had its own charm. Also yeah not 4 hours, 24 hours! And yeah the closest they got to AC was a little window for some air, but then they need goggles too so they didn't get a bug or piece of dirt in the eye. The first 24 hour of Le Mans was in 1923, it was billed as the ultimate endurance test, just this year was 100 years since the first one, its not the 100th race they stopped for WW2 and a while after to rebuild so its only the 91st running, but it was Ferrari's return to the top class, and they managed to win overall on their return in the new hypercar class. Most people would call Le Mans 'sportscar racing' for various reasons, they're more purpose built cars than stock cars or rally cars, but also because its multiclass racing, there's several classes of cars at the same time, there's purpose built 'prototypes' these are the lightest and most powerful cars in the field, at LeMans this is the Hypercar class, there's also a prototype class thats a step down, called LMP2, they're basically the same but less powerful. Then there's the GT cars, which are basically road going supercars that have been lightened and had roll cages and aerodynamics added to them. So like Ferrari 488 or Mercedes AMG-GT, Corvette, that new Ford GT road car from 2016 raced in the GT class, things like that, they're much heavier than the prototypes so they're a lot slower. If you wanna get into watching more of this kind of racing today there's 2 big racing series that do it, there's WEC, which is based more in Europe, they have the 24 hours of Le Mans in their schedule, the top class manufacturers are Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Peugeot, Cadillac, Vanwall, Glickenhaus. Then there's the US based IMSA series, they have the 24 hours of Daytona, as well as the 12 hours of Sebring which is mentioned in the movie. The top class cars in IMSA are Porsche, Cadillac, Acura, and BMW. Porsche and Cadillac compete in both, because both series have recently joined together to write compatible rulesets for building cars, so basically if you have a Porsche 963, (the car they designed) you could race it in WEC or IMSA and its good for both rules. If you are reading this as I post this on Aug 26, 2023, IMSA is racing albeit GT class only at Virginia International Raceway tomorrow the 27th, a very old timey twisty turny skinny track. Thank you for listening to my sportscar racing info dump, have a nice day ya'll

God, this is such a good movie...as a lifelong gearhead who's known about Shelby, Lee Ioacocca, and Ford's ups and downs with mismanagement of projects it's so infuriating seeing the bureaucracy depicted so well...they really made the right characters absolutely despicable, and showed Henry II as the sort of irrational child stuck in his namesake's shadow that he was...

lee iaccoca is a legend read up. far more important in the American auto industry then indicated here. Brought the mustang to market. invented the minivan, landmarked many of the safety features that were non-existent in the late 60s, rescued Chrysler from bankruptcy in the 80s (paid those loans back ahead of schedule)...
