Exactly, and it's not like the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans is a widely-known sporting event today, (It's not like England winning the Football World Cup the same year which we still bloody go on about today) and nobody outside of racing fans will even know who Ken Miles was. So this is a story that would get no coverage otherwise; it's not like it's another superhero film, or another film about JFK or another subject from the 60's that's been done to death.

I saw the film lasr night and it was easily one of the best films of 2019. The performances by bale and damon were great and i agree with you that jon berthal was great as well along with the supporting cast. I highly recommend it!!

Those people who keep complaining about their being too many Sequels, Disney Remakes and resurrection of dead franchises like Terminator, then this movie is for you. Something unique and fairly original, go and show your support so we can get many flicks like this in future. Because hollywood doesn't care about what you want, all it cares about are profits and if you only keep showing up for the sequels & disney remakes then its what you're always gonna get and unlikely you'll ever get something new.❤ xx

Saw it in the Prime at AMC format. What a ride of a film (pun intended)! Incredible storytelling and the vibrating seats made the races feel so intense!

I had a chance to watch a screening of this and I absolutely love everything about this movie. This movie gave me that feeling I had while watching Shawshank Redemption. This is also my favorite Christian Bale performance because of how charismatic and lovable Ken Miles is. James Mangold has even said in interviews that there are a lot of similarities between Bale and Miles which shows a spark on screen. Matt Damon was fantastic as well and he’s another wonderful actor. I cannot wait to watch this film again with my family and friends. I’ll be watching this multiple times because in my opinion it really is a phenomenal movie.

Shelby hated Enzo Ferrari because he cared more about the car that the driver and he felt that he had friends that died because of Enzo.

Thats not true.......... He saw Ferrari as competition, he never hated the guy. Shelby retired and moved to Africa because Ken Miles died in the J car and the J car was built because Ford couldn't have the fact the Gt40 that won Lemans was a Lola GT that was designed and built in Britan, Ford wanted an "All American car" which ultimately cost the world Miles and Shelby, there is a famous interview by Shelby that says he actually went to Chrysler years later to develop the Viper because he dislikes Ford so much ........ The funny thing was Ferrari from second one told Ford that he was willing to sell on the condition he kept control of the racing division of Ferrari (Enzo only cared about racing!!) but Ford wanted Ferrari to be his cheap entry into endurance racing and was upset when the $16m it would have cost him turned into more like £60m it cost to develop the Lola into the Gt40. Henry Ford was a petulant Kid that wanted everything now and created an environment of politics / back stabbing which was the biggest issue according to Shelby himself.

@@robertsestito6821 The problem with that quote is it comes from "Go like hell" and that is quite the work of fiction......... Shelby knew Enzo Ferrari well, he was friends with his son Dino, Enzo would contact him regularly during the late 50's trying to get Shelby to drive for Ferrari.... The thing was Shelby said he didn't like how he motivated the drivers against each other and he didn't like how Enzo would see the drivers as lucky to drive his cars..... He didn't "Hate" Ferrari he just said he was old school Italian so was "Hard to like"

I just saw this at the movie theater. Man I loved this movie. My heart was still thumping at extra beats well after leaving the theater. This movie had lots heart and adrenaline. So many great performances!

I am also looking forward to seeing this movie but your review was a little odd to me. It seemed like you were looking down to remember the movies name. Good thing you don't like f1 because this movie is about le mans. That could have been awkward.

There are some drivers that cameo in the film who also competed in F1, and Iacocca at one point makes a reference to Juan Manuel Fangio which I imagine will go over a lot of people's heads. But yeah, you're right, it doesn't rely on you knowing anything really about Formula One other than it's another racing category that exists.

Sadly not, but then again a lot of Shelby's life outside of racing/manufacturing cars is ignored by the film; for instance, he had a really messy personal life, a lot of infidelity and divorces, and that's never mentioned in the film, probably quite wisely as it would have just dragged down the story too much and made it too unfocused. But the "selling dead chickens" story is great and it's a little unfortunate they couldn't feature that somehow.

Ok seen it now and i can say without a shadow of a doubt Shelby would have been FURIOUS!! at how John Wyer his mentor and the guy who gave Shelby his big break (Wyer ran the Aston team that Shelby won Lemans in 59) was put across as incompetent!! when Shelby himself said the only man he trusted to take with him to meet Eric Braodley about the purchase of the Lola Mk6 GT was Wyer!! Sorry but that one is a shocker!! The man that won Lemans back to back 68 and 69 after Shelby had moved to Africa!! O and Shelby was involved in the Gt project from the very begining so the story of the project being takes off Wyer was also rubbish!!

Thats how the Ford PR department spun it in the late 60's.......... Ford wanted to make it sound like Ferrari was this bad guy and Ford was riding in on his white horse to save the day (thats not quite how it happened)
