Thank you so much for this video. I had exactly the same problem and even noticed that the screw was loose but did not realize it made such a difference. I thought that maybe the top of the ball capture assembly had broken off and it was letting the ball escape. I was researching the cost of a new assembly ($275) when I did another KZbin search and ran across you video. I went out and tighten the screw and to my amazement it worked. Add blue lock-tight as well. I love the fact that KZbin and people like yourself take the time to do these. Thanks

Thanks, I have the same problem. I'm going to drill through the panel to get the screwdriver in there to tighten up the screw, instead of taking off the panels.

I’ve been tightening that little screw for 2 years now! I ended up drlling a hole thought the sheet metal so I can get the screwdriver square to the screw. Never loosened again!
@JohnnyRedmond2 жыл бұрын
Had that problem for years. Finally figured out it was the screw. There’s no straight angle to tighten the screw due to the sheet metal. Bit of advice, drill a dime size hole in the sheet metal to allow a straight line to the screw to avoid stripping the screw head. Also, use an impact driver. Cheers.

do you know the size and length of screw? mines gone
@JohnnyRedmond8 ай бұрын
@@Brock_Fitness shoot, I’ve never taken the screw completely out for fear of it dropping into the door cavity. You might be able to locate it with an extended magnetic. My guess, it’s a .75-1” Phillips screw. Maybe a door schematic online will show the actual part number. Best of luck!

So needed this. Now my interior handle no longer works either. Had whole handle replaced and it failed in less than 2 months after cross country drive. It’s one of worst old Ford design flaws. Luckily I removed most interior covering in my V10 Club Wagon but still that screw takes a lot to get to which is labor charged if you went to a shop. I’ve had several mechanics flat out not even try n refer me to body shops. Stay tuned…. Let’s see if my screw is even there still. LoL. Thx for great support,simple video

About a year after this fix, the latch went out again. I thought it was the screw again. However, when I opened the panel, the screw was still in place. Ended up that several plastic pieces of the latch assembly finally broke - after 23 years! I replaced the latch assembly and all is good once again.
