Good day. Been watching all your vids. I just got same Ford Major as yours. It has some injecter pump issues. When starting, should the engine stop knob be pulled out or in?

I havent got a fordson major but I used to drive a ford 3000 and drive tractors of this era the stop knob should be in

Good afternoon, I have a1954 Major diesel with a Simms pump. The lever on it is pulled outwards to assist easy starting Called an excess fuel button . It will return to the correct position when the engine is running. To stop the engine the same lever is pushed slightly to the left. Make sure there is lubrication oil in pump .Later majors had a different system, whereby a button was used. Years ago when doing heavy work some drivers would lean forward to hold this button in hoping to create more power,and certainly more smoke !!

Thanks for the info. You know the story. Was told machine ran 6 months ago, but when I took injector pump side cover off, looks like been sitting on bottom of the ocean. Vac advance diaphram large rip caused rain water to get in rack housing and rusted everything. Ive got the rack moving and diaphram replaced. Going to try and start it today. Just want to make sure i can shut her down if it runs away. Best Regards, Nate

I should have added that the stop cable on mine no longer works ,it is seized!! However with a working cable it is pulled out to stop the engine, a spring attached to the pump returns it to the start position.
