Question for u. Totally not related to this video but I have 2019 F-150 3.5L ecoboost. Cold start up has a bad clutter noise from engine. Now check engine light turns on and sluggish when taking off. At highway speeds it stays in low gear. I called dealer for cam phasers warranty but they said it's not out yet. Need help. I love my truck and use it for work. If I don't have my truck than I don't work. If I don't work I can't pay for truck and just a domino effect. 😊

@G Money My comment was a bit tongue in cheek..."common sense" hardly grows on trees, hence the "genius"...same thing with the one million views...his videos are extremely popular as evidenced by more than a million views on any number of them that he has made. Did this today on my 2011 F-150. With only 56,000 miles I was experiencing this and thought I bought a used truck with a major problem. Watched your video and got the tools for the job. Kit on Amazon was $29.49 shipped. I had everything else already. Did this with a jack and two stands. Just be careful. I took my time and followed the steps thoroughly and had nothing but great results. No more bump when taking off! I am pleased with this and if it will be no big deal if I need to do it again in the future. Great video! I used testors paint for reference marks. I made two different colored reference marks on the boot end and ended up needing both to ensure that I was properly lined back up. So happy with the results!

Guy you are the epitome of what instructing, teaching, training is and should be. To properly explain something and why is the best for anyone to learn and retain the information and lessons. If people dont comprehend or understand, they wont learn anything, they'll simply just be repeating what they heard/saw. Example, such as at 5:15 some guys would just say to mark it, but not explain why. The 'why' is what makes people really learn it. Excellent video.

I’ve had to do this twice on my ‘07 FX2. Easy job and I don’t jack the rear, I put it on ramps, parking brake on, front wheels chocked and trans in neutral to unload it. Easy to get the shaft off, separate, clean and grease the reassemble making sure to phase the u-joints correctly. For a boot clamp I fuse a heavy zip tie and it works. Repeat every 80,000 miles. When I bought the truck it had the clunk and I got the price down $2,000 because of it. 1 hour later it was fixed. Enjoying your channel. 195,000 miles on the 5.4L and going strong.

I watched this video last week when it was first published and I realized that the problem that the pickup in this video had sounded familiar to the problem that my 2004 F-150 had. I ordered the Ford Motorcraft kit that was linked in the description and attempted this fix myself. What a difference! This solved my driveline bump issue immediately. Thanks to this video, I saved literally hundreds of dollars (because I thought that I might have had a worn ring gear) and it did not take long at all. Everything that FordTechMakuloco said in this video helped me as a novice mechanic to do it myself. Thanks for the great content!

My spline had a blue coating on it and was very dry. Did not require much clean-up of old grease as there was not much in there. Bought the repair kit and it was the perfect amount. Just bought a 2011 F150 lariat Supercrew, and was sick thinking it might be having tranny problems. Ordered the "kit" from Amazon, followed your video, and it's now buttery smooth when starting and stopping. For anyone planning to try this, I had to use a family member's air impact wrench to get the 4 bolts loose - so you may need to think ahead if you dont have one. Thank you!!

The 2019-2023 Rangers can have the same issue. Remember our US Rangers are actually 2011 era trucks. I did this on mine. So far seems much better. I've come across a lot of current Ranger owners with this issue online. Some have luck getting a dealer to lube it, some (like me) don't and end up doing it ourselves.

2014 F150 FX4. Just did this - it fixed it. Before it was very noticeable - even the slightest gas from start would act like someone nudged you from the rear. Now its smooth. Hopefully it holds up. The shaft splines looked good - you could see the special coating on the metal. Oh and the receiver section was almost complexly dry. I did not have a 12mm 12 point nor the pliers. Total for the kit and tools was under $50 and from start to end including cleanup and test drive was about an hour. Well worth it!

After having a local machine shop "fix" the same issue on my Mustang resulting in another blowout and engine fire under 100 miles later I decided to fix it myself for cheaper. It's been a few years and my driveway fix using the tools, advice, and methods in his video is still holding up, sucker pulls my camper all over 6 months out of the year and drags my brothers boat to the lake and back each season as well. I'm certainly thankful for his contribution to the Ford owners community and have happily shared his videos with fellow owners over the years.

The best video you have done! I have the exact same truck with the exact same problem! I have had two separate local Ford dealers do this service, both did it incorrectly. The first lied about using the white Teflon grease. They used blue grease as we discovered at the second dealer. The second dealer used the Teflon grease, but only on the slip yoke that slides into the transfer case. Not sure if any of them did the mid section yoke, if they did they didn’t mark the splines. I took your old video on my iPad to the second dealer to show em how should be done. I have 3 or 4 Ford dealers in this town and all have incompetent service departments. I'd just like to add something for the back yard mechanics. To torque the driveline hub bolts, I just left the vehicle up on jacks and shifted into park, otherwise it's very difficult to get the 76ft/lbs necessary. You have to shift back to neutral to rotate for the next bolt but it's alot easier and safer than trying to hold the tires in position.

I used the parking brake to hold it steady. Had to crawl out, release the brake, crawl under, rotate to the next bolt, crawl out, etc. It was about a two hour job for me also. If I had to do it again, it would probably be an hour. If I had access to a lift, it would probably be ten minutes 😊

Nice! I am feeling that 'bump' in my 2008 F250. The truck begins rolling off the red light and moves ahead a couple feet, then BUMP, that invisible car behind me hits my bumper.

My 2004 F350 did that. I bought the entire tube of the blue slip joint grease from my ford dealer. Once a year I repack the joint and she stays nice and quite

Very good video and I definitely have this problem. Ford "fixed" it a few years ago and it has progressively gotten bad again. They fixed it free of charge because it seemed that there was a recall. I don't know if I will be fortunate to have them fix it again free and do it right. My real reason to post a comment and maybe you've already done a video on this (if so, please send me the link) is that I have a 2012 Ford F-150 Super Crew 5.0 with the split shaft and I think my U-Joints need to be replaced. I can see how you removed the lower shaft. I have considered replacing these joints as allegedly Ford said (back when they replaced the slip bump issue) that these were going bad. Why did I not have Ford do it? $1000 to do it. I have helped my dad many years ago change the u-joints on an '87 F-150 (single shaft) many years ago before there was internet, let alone KZbin videos with tips. He did it but he also complained he didn't do it right. I'd like to avoid $1000 repair if I can do it myself. Do you have a video?

I just did the repair on my 2011. Your step by step video was perfect. Hopefully this will solve the problem. The grease that was in there was grey and there wasn’t much of it. Also noticed a couple of minor scrapes in that Teflon coating. Don’t think that I did it as all I did was slide the shaft out and put it on the bench. Seemed to be dented inward so hopefully the new grease will fill them in. I’ve done all the service on the truck so they must have occurred at the factory. May be contributing to some of their issues. Again, great video,

Great video. Ordered the new grease. I've used the blue Ford grease in the past, but it doesn't hold up for too long. Hopefully the white grease keeps the bump away!

Our family had a 1962 Ford Country Squire station wagon that had a similar clunk. I went to the Ford dealer and they gave me a kit that consisted of a spring and washers and grease that would slide over the rear portion and apply pressure on the front shaft to keep it from clunking. It worked.....

Just did this on 04 f350 and it definitely was this easy to do and all it needed was to be greased up and the bump is 100% gone! I didnt get the kit and i used different grease but i think it will hold up with no issues. I still cant believe it just needed grease. I had mechanics tell me i needed a new differential when i explained it over the phone and was quoted 2k for the fix

Me too. I took my 2012 in at 5k miles with this. They said it was “ normal “. I’m a shop owner or 20 years now. I called BS to their face and they just looked at me. I changed the trans mount , and rear end oil on my dime trying to fix it. Took it to a driveshaft shop , they balanced the shaft ( 1 piece ) And still nothing. After that I just lived with it 146 k miles now. Now I guess I’ll fix it. Lol

I replaced my transmission mount on my 2011 f150 because I thought it might be the problem but it only made it slightly better. I was happy with it at first but it definitely clunks still just a little less. I’m definitely going to try this now! Thank you so much!

Dang. This just popped up in my feed totally randomly. My 2010 F150 Lariat just recently started lurching when I come to a stop, almost like the engine surges or something, but I think this is the problem, seems to be exactly what is happening. So now I'm going to fix it. Awesome video. Thanks. And apparently the mind reading algorithm is working well too since I haven't even searched for this problem. Lol.

You must be reading my mind, I have a 2001 f150 and when I shift from drive to reverse and start moving it makes a bump and I'm starting with the driveshaft. Hi great video what's your name? Where's your shop at? I went to a local mechanic shop I bought the kit from Ford dealership, and I asked if they could do it, at first the guy was trying to sell me something else's to rebuild soemthing and the well he gave up he said he new 2hat I was talking about they will take care of me, when done I asked the procedure how they did the work they said they just pulled the rubber thing back and installed the grease in there so they never took anything apart it took them 2 hours to do it and they just failed to the right thing, and they charged me 120 for the labor , I have called a few more mechanics shops and they don't know what I'm talking about and they want me to bring the truck for an inspection which is 180 to all this placed wants to upsell. And it sucks its just about the money nobody takes pride of their work , props to you man thank you for all your great videos. Be blessed 🙌 sorry for venting out I've had bad experiences with mechanics some do soemthing some haven't done anything on my vehicles and I still get charge for it.
