Hey Brian. My 16 Ex sport has the 6F55 I'm sure. I'm don't think there's a dip stick so I'm assuming I have to use this leveling procedure? That's going to suck in my slanted & decline driveway. So my girl has 2018 ford escape with 33,000 miles. The power train warranty expired on 5/27/23, just after the 5yrs of owning it. The next month the transmission started doing exactly what this video is about. I did exactly what he says in the video & it fixed it. Pain the ass having to remove the front wheel to check the fluid cause fords to cheap to put a dipstick, but it worked. This guy rocks for this tutorial.

Hello Brian..discovering this video is the best thing that has happened to me. I got my 2013 ford escape at 78,000 miles and took it for a transmission change. 8 liters was used to effect the change. I watched him drain the old black oil and pour in 8 liters. Since then, I observed the hard shift from gear 1 to 2 & 2 to 3.... it was barely a day after I purchased the vehicle that I carried out fluid changes in the Car so I can't recall observing such an issue with my gear. I tried researching and some youtube guys says it's normal due to the manual/ auto gear technology use in the 2013 and above models. I am presently at the auto shop and have asked them to gauge my transmission fluid. After getting the vehicle to a balanced position, the bold removed, the manner in which the oil gushed out was as if it was connected to a pressure pump. Close to 5 liters got out and when it almost gradually started sipping, we replaced the bolt.My prayer is , as I drive out of here, I will no longer experience the hard shift from gear 1 to 2 & 2 to 3...THANKS BRIAN.

When I did the ATF flush on my 2013 Fusion a few months ago, I just turned the wheel to the point where I could get easily stick my hand through the wheel spokes and reach the leveling/overfill plug. I did have to use a long socket to reach it, but I'm only 5'-6", so you might not need it if you have longer arms. You do have to lay down on the ground and get your hands and arms dirty, but it's easier and faster than jacking the car. And I definitely agree with this Mr. Makuloco. Don't wait too long to do the flush. I was planning on doing it at the 80,000 mile mark, but had to do it earlier because my transmission started acting a bit jerky. Nothing major, just a slight jerk when shifting from 2-3 and when switching from Park to Drive when the transmission was warm. The flush I did worked great for the first few months, but then I felt my trans slip twice when driving through a hilly area. I took it to a shop where they did another flush and added some friction modifier. That was more than 6,000 miles ago and so far the transmission has stabilized. It shifts better now. But I will never make the same mistake again.

Thanks man am doing this on my wife’s 2017 Ford Fusion this weekend. I talked with a Ford tech at my dealership and he said to get 12 quarts and drain it fill it cycle through the gears and do it 3 times to help get all the old fluid out since the transmission holds more than 4 quarts haha
@jayhawker03
@jayhawker03 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Ford manual says to check the fluid level before the test drive (basically fill it until it comes out the level plug at room temp). While this makes sure there is enough fluid for the test drive, you will end up basically wasting multiple quarts of fluid after it expands. The method shown here is definitly more efficent, doing a cold fill and running through the gears takes like 6 quarts, just for you to watch 2 of those quarts drain out later when it's hot.

Thank you for the video and information. Great job! We have a 2016 Ford Escape SE (2.5L engine; 6F35 transmission). The transmission check plug behind the LF wheel is slightly behind the front axle and requires a 10mm hex tool (like an Allen wrench). I got mine from Harbor Freight. It took multiple extensions and an universal socket to get the check plug out. One other note is that it was very difficult for me to get the fill cap back on. I disassembled some of the air filter to give a bit more room for my hand to get the cap back on.

Thank you for doing this! So many times on the Escape forums (2013+) folks ask how to do this procedure. Just traded in my 2013 Escape 2.0 for a 2017 2.0. My 13 had 122,000 miles and a trouble free, like new shifting transmission. I did a double drain and fill (driving 100 miles in between) at 20,000 just to get rid of the break in material, also using this opportunity to check the factory fill level. Then every 30,000 do a simple drain and fill. Now you need to do a video about the dreaded P1450 purge valve, hose assembly change-out on 2013+ Escapes. Lots and lots of people asking how to do it.

Good video! That's why I subscribed (on my personal account only) awhile ago to your channel since it is a good one! I go one step further as I measure out the fluid I drained in an old fluid evacuation device (after fluid cools down to room temp so I know an accurate baseline amount of fluid to fill first and then save a sample in a glass jar to show customer of that first fluid drained). If you don't know what the proper level is or unsure that it was correct to begin with then by all means overfill/drain as you showed in video. I am a shop owner/Tech and have offered Trans fluid exchange services at my Auto repair shop for many years on all makes/models to help customers transmissions last. I use 2 Fluid Evacuator's (6 qt) one for sucking out fluids and/or measuring what I drained out in pan and the newer one is only for filling (where needed) on some models where the fill is buried underneath preventing using a funnel to fill. I also recommend every 30k or when just starting to get burn't before its too late! Also I exchange fluid (Drain/Fill/Run and drain again on avg 3 times as needed since you can't drain the trans fluid from the Torque Converter or whats still trapped inside the Trans/Valve body. Although you may use (sell) 12 qts. on avg. this does give a more thorough fluid change. Still a complete fluid exchange (Drain, Fill, Run and drain multiple times with proper fluid) is still only going to cost the customer about 1/10th of what a trans replacement/rebuild will that makes it an easy sell for anyone who owns (not leased) and/or intends on having their car, SUV or Truck for a long time! I did make a video on a Trans Fluid Service on a Honda PIlot doing a multiple fluid change a while ago and posted it to my Dave's Service Center youtube channel. It's not as good as your videos but just trying to educate the people.

Had no idea these transmissions had no dipstick Great video though. I feel fortunate that my older Fusion and our Flex has a dipstick and I change the fluid on both at regular intervals. What I do with both is check the fluid level before I change to make sure it’s where it should be and I measure how much came out on the drain to replace it with the exact same amount. I do that method more for the Flex as the dipstick basically requires the removal of the air filter box to gain access to it

Had the Fluid changed at 35000km for the first time of the 6F35 in our 2016 C-Max 1.5 Ecoboost. The Ford dealer was very reluctant to do it because it shouldn't be changed and they told us to, in any case, never change the fluid when the car is past 100.000km. I just told them that the fluid will be changed every 50.000km (30k miles) and that I will be deciding that it will be done since I am the one paying the invoice in the end :)

Thanks for the video. I recently picked up a 2014 Escape Titanium @ 84,200 miles. Visually, the engine compartment and overall package was very clean. I had to do a few costly repair to pass Maryland's notoriously hard inspection process(which I feel is a racket, but I digress...). It passed in Virginia, btw. Had to replace the combined muffler/catalytic converter assembly which was an all one piece item. The local independent shop I usually use did a transmission fluid change. The fluid looked exactly as you have shown here. His tech said it may be going up, but I feel that it may be a normal look on these transmissions after seeing your vid and others like it. Added Lucas transmission conditioner after change and no problems shifting. consistent more pronounced shit into second, but not really out of character with other cars I've owned. will possibly change fluid again after 10,000 miles. I feel the trick with this Escape is to religiously maintain it. Any suggestions otherwise? Thank you.

100,000 miles on a single fill of Merc LV?? Yikes! No wonder it's so dark. Good thing you're getting to it when you are. I never let mine get past 30,000 per drain/fill. Even after 30,000 miles, it's already turned purple-ish. I'd say the 30,000 rotation is working, though, since my 2010 is just over 267,500 miles, with the original trans.

I just changed the fluid on my 2016 1.5 Fusion. I measured what came out and it was 4 quarts plus 14 oz. I went ahead and did the fluid level process. There is a plug on the side of the trans where the axle comes out. I removed it with a 3/8 hex socket on a 10" extension. I used a shop rag over the hex socket so I would not drop the fill plug. It is fairly easy to get to with the steering wheel turned all the way to the right. After the car was driven and hot I removed the plug and nothing came out. I added 2 oz while the car was still running and fluid started dripping out. This tells me next time I could get away with using exactly 4 quarts plus 14 oz and not do the fluid level procedure.

The fluid expands enough that if you were to add fluid to full and check on a cold car with a dipstick, then drive the car a few miles then check it again it would be overfull. We used to leave the level low on the stick then top it to full after the test drive.

Good video! (I did also post this comment here from my personal account where I subscribed to your channel awhile ago)! I use 2 Fluid Evacuator's (6 qt) one for sucking out fluids and/or measuring what I drained out in pan and the newer one is only for filling with proper new fluid (where needed) on some models where the fill is buried underneath preventing using a funnel to fill. I did make a video on a Trans Fluid Service on a Honda PIlot doing a multiple fluid change a while ago and posted it to my Dave's Service Center channel. It's not as good as your videos but just trying to educate the people.

Greetings, Great video! I was wondering if after replacing the fluid > start engine > let idle for 40 seconds > turn off and drain > Fill to finish... I just did a chevy traverse that the transmission fluid was black; wanted to replace as much fluid as i could without disconnecting line to cooler. I drained it out, filled it, started it and let it idle for 50 seconds (no revving) and drained it again, it came out black. refilled it and checked it, sure was much cleaner and I ended up using ~8 quarts. I did this because a saw a video where they did a flush for the traverse and it took about 60 seconds to get all the fluid out of the transmission / torque converter. Thanks again for your information, very good A+.

What a complicated and asinine procedure for doing such a simple task! I really believe Ford engineers must hate mechanics and therefore try their hardest to make their lives miserable. Whatever happened to the days of transmission fluid dipsticks? Most owners never open the hood so there's little danger of them overfilling the unit. If they do and the unit fails, then they get to buy a new transmission! Simple.

It can simply fall off and hit the road! Happened to me, I thought it was my gearbox at first, what a bang that was. Had to drive back to garage 10 mph... @@HereafterMusic it does! When you open the hood on the side where the air box is you'll see a rubber piece that's connected to the air box intake. Unhook that and it will allow you to pull out the plastic tube. Then you will see the top of the transmission and the black cap that covers the transmission fill hole. Use a set of long needle nose pliers and squeeze the clamp and pull the cover off. Then there is a big hole to put a funnel into. I measure whatever fluid I drain out and replace it with the Ford LV fluid you can get faily cheap on Amazon. I change mine every 10k. I now have 80k on the vehicle and haven't had a issue yet. And I'm pretty rough on it. It's super easy to do and takes less then 30 minutes to change the transmission fluid. Please let me know if you need anymore help. Also change the PTU fluid if your's is AWD. That's very important to change over to synthetic Mobil 1 before your seals start to go out.
