When Ford introduced these new engines in their trucks in 2011 I knew I had to have one. Test drove both the 3.5 Eco and the 5.0. The ECO is stronger and the 5.0 sounds better but when I popped the hood to look at how they would be to work on I immediately chose the 5.0. It is an excellent truck and tows my trailers well. Good Vid.

Yep same reason why I got the 5.0 Coyote on my 2011. Looked at the Ecoboost with all those extra parts and plumbing on it I and immediately said no way !!! This 5.0 has been a phenomenal motor for me and very easy to work on too. Has 160,000 miles on it and it still purrs like a kitten. Just general maintenance has been all it has required unlike my friends Ecoboost which has been very expensive. Love this great motor !!! Have the 5.0 Coyote in my 2016 Mustang too and it's been just as good. Very good and reliable American motors no doubt !!! Love these Ford's 5.0 Coyote motors. The F150 tows at a lower rpm and gets better mileage to boot. I wish I could have gotten a higher rear end ratio but it already struggles for traction with the stock 275/55r20 tires.

Brian, another thing you might want to show is how to replace those electrical connectors. I had to replace one when I changed the plugs this fall on my 2012 5.0. The seals get rock hard and damaged with all the heat cycles. Silicone spray helped too on the ones that went on real hard. Pretty easy to change the connector. Pull out the white plug with a pliers. From the front, pry up the tabs holding the wires in, then pull wires out through the back. Push wires in new connector and seal the back with rtv. Then pop the white piece back in. I was able to get the special pin picks but an eye glass screw driver should be about thr right size.

Are the seals on valve cover tube replaceable or do you replace whole valve cover if oil leaks are found
@FordTechMakuloco5 жыл бұрын
Yes they are replaceable.

Very helpful and descriptive video. The only shitty thing is the boots getting stuck but long extension needle nose pliers helped!

Another great video. And I drive a 97 osb 7.3, but all knowledge is good knowledge.

Thanks so much! I am getting ready to do this job and was scared because of the other Ford issues! Question- If I have a plug or two that is not working correctly will it ALWAYS throw a code and make the CEL come on? Right now I dont have the CEL but I get a decent shudder when accelerating above 30 MPH and everything is pointing to the plugs and or coils. Thanks for the help!

"It wont fly out, usually" Oh!, Good! That means every single one will fly out for me!

I cannot find the 519 spark plug anywhere. it looks like Ford changed from an iridium to a platinum plug (SP548)? does anyone know why they did this?

Great video. You have helped me save a good bit of money :-)!! So is this what the mechanic charges $500 for a "tune up" or is there more to it?

Thank you. 13 f150 5.0 here. At what mileage should stock plugs be replaced?
@karag65565 жыл бұрын
I actually do mine on my mustang every 30k because the OEM Ford plugs are inexpensive and super simple to do, takes less than an hour.

Kara G Cool. my truck is at 126k. I don’t know if they have been replaced. I’m going to look at them soon

Great video like always! More coyote engine videos plz. I have a huge issue I can not figure out on my coyote 5.0 codes are P0012 & p0022
@alextoy50123 жыл бұрын
Did the codes end up being the VCT Solenoids?

Good information. Easy job until the Coil retaining bolts twist off (corrosion). That was a PITA.
@mikep53042 жыл бұрын
Yup a real pain brother , I broke off 5 of 8 because they were corroded . Anyways I managed to pull the inserts with heat & replace them the same way & replace with new bolts

Quick question. Is it a good idea to switch to 5w30 synthetic instead of 5w20? I have heard that is too thin to truely protect and was created just for government regulations. Main engine I'm wondering about is a 01 Ranger with a 3.0, but could this apply to other engines?
@everss023 жыл бұрын
those rangers don't have vvt or any tiny holes using oil pressure to do things

Won’t hurt a bit. Ford recommends 5w-50 for 5.0 mustangs that get tracked so going to 5w-30 won’t hurt. I run 0w-40 in mine.

Any reason to preemptively change the coil and wire during spark plug change out, or should you just wait until a check engine code eventually tells you to change them? Thanks for the great video.
@FordTechMakuloco4 жыл бұрын
Nope just stick to the changing plugs only.

Ugh those clips were a pain. It appears that fine dirt gets into the already snug connector and turns into a mortar. It took a lot of wiggle and flex to try and break up the dirt, just to get 1/64" victories. Blast lots lots of air into the connector, to try and blast out the dirt. By the firewall, use two 3" extensions as the ac lines or brake booster get in the way. One of my plus measured .062. Already noticing a significant improvement in idle and we'll see what mileage does next. Next time I might spray a little maf sensor cleaner to hopefully soften up the dirt.

I was looking to do this but man those 2 back plugs are a pain in the ass to get to with all the wiring harnesses in the way

Any particular reason you didn't put some dielectric grease on the outside coil electrical connection? Would it make it any easier to remove next time?
