Ford’s Kuga Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) uses four Electric Vehicle (EV) modes to help you get the most out of hybrid driving, and ensure that it works around you.

The four modes available with Kuga PHEV are: ‘Auto EV’, ‘EV Now’, ‘EV Later’ and ‘EV charge’.
Auto EV will always be the default mode each time you start your vehicle. To make switching drive modes easy, there’s a dedicated EV Mode button on the centre console. You can cycle through the modes by pressing the button, while key information is displayed in your digital instrument cluster.
Not all EV modes will be available at all times, depending on your battery levels and the selected Drive Mode, e.g. Sport or Eco (Selectable Drive Modes are a separate feature to the EV modes).
Here are the details on each EV Mode available in your Kuga Plug-in Hybrid:
AUTO EV
‘Auto EV’ is the default EV mode and will be selected automatically when starting the vehicle. In this mode, the Kuga PHEV seamlessly chooses between All-Electric or Hybrid driving, giving you the best combination of economy and performance, depending what you need at any given moment.
Regenerative Braking recovers energy that would otherwise be lost, and uses it to sustain the battery charge, helping you make the most of the electric driving range.
EV NOW
‘EV Now’ is a great option for short journeys in the city, or anywhere that may have low emissions regulations in place. This mode uses only the electric motor, to ensure emissions-free driving for shorter journeys. From a full starting charge, you can cover distances of up to 35 mi/56 km on electric only power.
Performance in ‘EV Now’ is auto-adjusted for maximum range. And if the battery charge can’t sustain pure electric driving any longer, the petrol engine will re-engage automatically, until sufficient charge has been recovered.
EV LATER
‘EV Later’ mainly uses the petrol engine for driving, preserving as much battery charge as possible. It’s designed for those times you know you’ll need electric-only driving further in your journey (e.g. if you’re heading to the city or an emissions-regulated zone).
EV CHARGE
‘EV Charge’ uses the petrol engine both for driving, and for directly charging the battery. Similar to ‘EV Later’, this is helpful when you know you’ll need electric-only driving later on in your journey, but perhaps your battery needs additional charging on-the-go beforehand.
With the petrol engine working harder to both drive the vehicle and charge the battery, ‘EV Charge’ is less efficient than the other modes. So we recommend pre-charging the battery where possible.

My car always runs in electric mode in the morning. Of course, if it is very cold, use gasoline engine.my question is When does engine lubrication start?

I do like my Kuga PHEV but 35 mile range is unrealistic after a full charge as soon as I unplug it and drive off it loses about 6 miles of range, and in the cold max charge you can get is 25 miles, realistically 19 miles. To get to the motorway is 8 miles on a range of 19 miles I will be lucky to have 6 left, and that's with no heater etc on.

It's an option today. But if you're not the kind of person who *needs* 4WD or AWD it's a hell of a lot of additional weight. Defeating the purpose of making the car as fuel efficient as possible. But my friend with horses is regularly off road on grass, or s***y Irish weather turns that to mud... He's pretty happy with his 2017 diesel Kuga. He's considering a 2022 AWD PHEV.

@@GrasshopperKelly You can’t get an AWD Küga PHEV. However, your friend can get a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, Hyundai Tucson PHEV, Toyota RAV4 PHEV, Kia Sportage PHEV or Jeep Compass PHEV if he’s looking for a C-segment AWD PHEV.

@@DaveDVideoMaker the Ford Bolands (Wexford) has one for test Drive. It was a made to order that the buyer cancelled and bought something else. ST-line custom order. As for my friend, if anything he'd go back to Subaru, or he'll get another Kuga.

nice. Video title "Ev Modes Explained' 7 seconds from 0:17 to 0:24 the rest is a bunch of marketing shots of the car and music. The screens on the center display are cool and all .. but i was looking for more details about the EV modes, than 7 seconds. Edit: I found a 3rd party reviewer that did a better job. Come on Ford, sell your stuff, tell us about it.. pictures, music, not selling that is just old OEM marketing.. you have a great product that a new market wants.. focus on what they want to know about the car.. those EV modes are the best part.

I agree, this video was horrible for someone who wants to learn more about the cool features behind each of the buttons. Thinking how easy it would have been for you to display each button icon, when you talk about each feature. I would fire the creative agency/producer behind this dookie of a job.
