I have been looking for a footwork specific video that really breaks down the biomechanics of getting into position from the split step. Thanks a lot SIr

Hi Richard, do you have a video where you covered all the footwork patterns for one handed backhand just like this one?

What are the reasons why you would use a rhythm step instead of just shuffle steps? The rhythm steps seem like they could get exhausting during a long rally.

Look at it this way. Crossover are the ones to cover larger ground, then we have the shuffle ones for medium distance and lastly the rhythm/adjusting steps which are executed when you have covered already most of the distance and now have to find the perfect position so that the biomechanics of the shots are executed efficiently. Usually they are done when the opponent's shot is not that fast. In that case you have the time time to do a few adjusting steps to set yourself up in the perfect position. In the case of a high tempo/pace rally usually you don't have time to do many adjusting steps and that's when swing path of the racquet doesn't always look the best and the follow through happens above the head like Nadal's

The ball is Polaris, the footwook are Big Dipper and minor Dipper, that is how your mind memorize it. Moving first step with correct foot is the key.

That's fine when it comes to footwork for getting to the ball. But isn't it equally important to know the right footwork for backing off after getting too close?

If you are getting to close it’s normally about not judging where the ball was going. Using combinations of the patterns from this video allows you to cover any distance. If the ball is hit at you and you need to create space or you are hitting an inside out forehand, it’s different. I have a couple of videos that break down the patterns for this

is there a case where you just turn to the side and run to the ball for some meters? crossover and shuffle steps are not as fast as running forward @@TennisHacker
