One thing to keep in mind when comparing these throws is that one of these forms is more 'natural' for you as a thrower, and one is 'new'. My guess would be that any time you try a 'new' form, your power will always decrease. It would be interesting if you contrasted your 'new' vs. 'natural' throwing form with another thrower that 'naturally' uses a flat wind up and trying to see if they can generate more power with a 'new' wrist roll.

So personally I have rolled my wrist and I think the main benefit is when you bring the disc back the weight of the vertical disc pushes your wrist back even further then you can by forcing your wrist to go back when you keep it flat. If your wrist moves even a little bit further back that turns into more rotation when you end up throwing the disc.
