When on the roads be careful and mindful of your surroundings. In a car in Pakistan a couple of years ago, my sister in law pointed out the two guys on a small motor cycle who were keeping pace with us. She told me to point my camera at them and take some photos. Within seconds of them seeing the camera, they dropped back out of sight and we never saw them again. Her explanation, they were robbers who were sizing us up.

Police is India are pretty good in my experience. Except for the bottom most rank, they don't get the best training and do not know what's required of their job. And it's sad the govt doesn't do much about it. Good video!

Bottom ranked police do not get proper training and also they are heavily work loaded. They are even on duty for 15-16 hrs a day frequently which make them irritated. Best thing would be 8 hrs shift for them and it will create more vacancy in police force

As a man I was told by a professional pick pocket that to always keep change in your wallet and keep your wallet upside down In your pocket. They wont even attempt it in case something drops out.

In India I always made it a habbit that when I was bumped into or brushed up against, I would always check my pockets after. And yeah, about the 'nice guys' of India - countless times I've been invited back to a house, back to a shop, and even invited to lunch, they come accross SO genuine, but I learnt VERY early on, not to trust them. It sucks, as it would be nice to have a genuine experience, who aren't after only your money : (

India actually feels super safe because of the ammount of police and security walking arround in public places.I'm much less worried to go out at night in India than in Germany. And the best protection against Touts are simply big Headphones and loud music. Ignoring them and walking fast :)! i actually never felt unsafe, even alone with an expensive camera :D but i also have to mention, i can only speak for male solo travelers. i guess its pretty different as a female. Overall safety often depends on how you approach life, if a place seems unsafe, just walk arround it :)! So Stay Safe! & as allways lots of love from germany :)!

+ And i forgot to mention: dont store your cellphone or money in the bags of your pants. most times people only think about scammers or touts! but what also can be a problem as traveler are begging people. arround 2-3 Times i was in a Situation where i had ~5 Kids arround me touching me allways repeating : Money mister, please money mister. and they also started grabbing inside of my pokets trying to get stuff. So my tip for situations like this is: simply give them some fruits and try to get away fast. Also as allways in India there will be a lot of people arround helping you if situations get worse :)

But i noticed one time how people actually act sometimes. i met a guy at churchgate in mumbai and he talked to me nice for arround 5-10 minutes and also invited me to drink a tea. but after 5 minutes of talking and drinking he started asking me for a lot of money he needs. and the funny thing is, i told him 10 minutes earlier: "dude your a friendly guy but you are talking exactly like a tout or scammer". and he just said nooo I'm not a guy like this. luckyly this didnt cost me anything. regarding the tuk tuk drivers. so far nobody has done anything to me or ripped me of. but i notice all the evil stares of them. sometimes they will drive you totally fine, but you get the feeling that deep inside they hate you. i dont know why, but it sometimes feels like this. i guess its overall a good thing to simply ignore people approaching you. allways be the person to approach & choose a friendly driver:)!

I love your vids, but you have to understand scammers running loose because they pay "protection money" to police so they don't bother him. If something is wrong in India, police is the first ones that knows, not because they want to shut it down, but just to take that "protection money". Although saying that, some police are good. Corruption is a big deal here.

I take precautions whenever I travel with my wife. And I clearly knew I shouldn't trust strangers, specially when they are inviting you to their homes in a slum. But, strangely I accepted such invitation when I was in Jaipur and visited his place. It was an amazing experience and luckily nothing has happened. But I still cannot imagine that I have done that.

I almost got pick pocketed in Delhi at a metro station when I was trying to get into the metro. I sensed something in my back pocket and when I reached out to my pocket, I got hold of two fingers of a thief in my pocket. Then when I boarded the metro, he along with his 4-5 goon friends also boarded the metro, but after some time they got out of the metro at some metro station.

@Karl What about this strategy for rickshaw: 1. Ask locals what they would pay for a trip to X. 2. Pick the rickshaw without any negotiating. 3. At the destination: Hand over the local price (maybe plus tourist "tax") and walk away without any discussions. This worked quite fine in Egypt and other countries.

That's a good idea but remember this is India the driver may not agree to the local price paid by a foreigner so there might be an argument. So better to agree on a price first. Even Indians do the same.

as a foreign solo male traveller it is quite ok but as a solo female travellerdon't go to paharganj ,don't trust tuk tuks or taxi walas and yes of course you can use couch surfing websites to find genuine indians after viewing the reviewshowe er.
