Good point. I read a lot of books about history. I find it much easier to remember people's names and the names of places of European origin than I do trying to remember names of Asian, Indian or African origin. I think the mind must first adjust to classifying the new and unfamiliar words as "people" or "places", then it must deal with unfamiliar pronunciations before it can simply store them away effortlessly, as the mind will do with more familiar things.

100%. I've seen the complexity of this show overwhelm even native speakers and, while some people would make the argument that those people are not very intelligent, I'd say it's a lot more complex than that. Adding more obstacles like a foreign language, cultural differences and whatnot on top would serve to create even more confusion. Chi and Hella have done great so far with many of the hints that the show, being well crafted, gave them. The scene at the tourney comes to mind, before Ser Loras confronts the Mountain. They didn't catch on Littlefinger's comment about Renly having his friend but they understood that the looks between the two meant something more.

From South Carolina, USA, thank y’all for watching this. Not only that, but I’m so happy they chose to watch this because it’s so close to my heart and such a difficult, almost Shakespearean, story to understand; especially for someone whose primary language isn’t English. It’s a very western civilization oriented show, and it examines the behavior of western civilization. I love watching non-westerners learn about western socio-cultural history and how it affects our behavior. It’s so philosophical, and people watching for entertainment that don’t read the books never realize how it’s an examination of western civilization and our behavior through history based in contextual situations. I hope you’ll even decide to read it someday.

Fun fact: that deer that Tywin Lannister is skinning is a real deer. Charles Dance (the actor) went out and learned how to actually skin a deer so when he did it on camera, he'd look like he knew what he was doing. There's a lot of subtext to it as well: The stag is the symbol of House Baratheon, and here's the head of House Lannister butchering one. Charles Dance is an extremely well respected actor in the UK and internationally. Like a lot of old school actors, he started his career on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company. There's a certain presence and gravitas that people like him have; Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen (who played Gandalf in Lord of the Rings) have the same kind of aura. They view acting as a craft, and they've completely mastered it. I've seen Charles Dance, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen portray complex character thoughts and details through nothing but their eyes and facial expression. Drogo giving a horse to Jorah was pretty much the greatest gift he could offer; especially giving him his pick of any horse in the horde. The Doth'raki prize their horses above everything else. In an earlier episode, they mention the Doth'raki don't have a word for 'thank you'. That's because their culture is based on reciprocation i.e. "you gave me this gift, so I will give you something of equal value" (which adds a little context to the horse Drogo gave Danny in episode one. She was becoming his wife, so he gave her the most beautiful horse he could find). Jorah saved the most valuable thing in Drogo's life, so Drogo gave Jorah the most valuable gift he possibly could.

Stark has a flaw that prevents him from being a successful player in the Game of Thrones. Like all men who place honor above all else, he sees the world as black and white and cannot accept that sometimes gray is reality and the best path forward. Telling Cersei that he knew about her incest with her brother allowed her to plot Robert's death (remember how eager the Lannister squire was in thrusting wine on Robert) and to counter anything Stark tried to do. Turning away his best potential ally and trusting a man who is in love with his wife doomed his honorable intentions, especially since Littlefinger had already proposed a plan he rejected.

Personally, if I were in Ned's position, I would never have threatened Cirsei. I might have told her that I discovered her secret, but I also wouldn't have exposed her. See, I look at it like this: if she is exposed, the realm collapses into chaos. Robert would almost certainly do something horrific to her and possibly her kids, and there is no way, at all, that the Lannisters would be ok with that. Tywin would go to war over it. And if Robert doesn't believe me, well, there would probably be some really nasty consequences for me and my house, either from him or from the Lannisters. Secondly, I don't actually care that much about taboos. If her and Jamie love each other, let them have each other. It does create issues with succession, but the alternative is worse. I would probably have told Cirsei "look, I know the truth about what you and Jaimie do. I'm not going to tell Robert. I'm here to make peace, not war. The truth I've learned is very dangerous and could throw the realm into war. It must never see the light of day. Besides, I have no interest in endangering you or your children. Robert's wrath would be horrendous, and your kids, at the very least, are innocent in this. However, I also know that my son saw the two of you, and that is why he was pushed and nearly died. Still, he lives, and though he'll never walk again, he can still have a decent life in the North. What I want, Cirsei, is peace. You guys can have the throne. Geoffrey can marry my daughter, Sansa. I will make sure Tyrion is released, and I will keep my wife in check. I trust you will do the same with your brother. I will remain as Hand, and I will use the power to make sure that this secret never gets out." I think Cirsei would go for that, personally. It is the best chance for keeping the peace. Prior to this confrontation, I'm fairly certain that Cirsei already had a good idea that Ned had found this secret out. Making it clear that you have no intention of going against her is the best way to preserve that peace and keep his family safe. Unfortunately Ned is far too "righteous" to do something so pragmatic.
@seankane95082 ай бұрын
At which point she would have thanked you, went off to her room, and quietly had you killed. Letting her know that he knew was a bad idea all around. He thought he was being noble by giving her and her kin a chance to leave. He should have known the mindset of the Lannisters and never said anything at all. She had already killed one Hand to keep that info quiet, why did he think she wouldn't do it again?
@detritusofseattle2 ай бұрын
@@seankane9508 Maybe she would try. Or maybe she would realize to do so was too risky. They were willing to let Ned live after Robert's passing precisely because offing him would start a war. It was his decision to threaten her and her children, his willingness to try and rip her son off the throne and seize power that causes him to be in his present predicament. If anything, I think scheming Cirsei might have considered my alternative version of Ned an ally. Someone who knows the truth, knows how to cover it up, is seen as honorable by most people in the seven kingdoms, who can secure the North (the one part of the realm that could cause significant trouble), and who is also absolutely willing to work with her, despite knowing this truth, is a very valuable ally indeed. But Ned is, as Robert put it, an honorable fool. He just had to insist on being the hero, and in so doing he's ruined everything. I think that was a genius bit of writing by Martin.

Hello, Movie Munchies! I had a quick thought that maybe you want to try or maybe not! But I just wanted to put it out there just in case...so I know you currently release 1 episode of Game of Thrones each week...and at this rate, with 73 episodes, it would take almost 1.5 years to finish the entire series. This is fine OF COURSE. But I had the idea...what if, once per season of Game of Thrones, you watch 4 episodes in one single week and post those all in 1 week on 4 different days (same as how you basically do now with movies/GoT but this way means that for just one week every couple months, you would post (and blaze through) 4 episodes in a single week! This would move the entire series along that much faster, finishing the entire series in just under 1 year even and all of us diehard Game of Thrones AND Movie Munchies fans will get to see you guys watching ALLLLL the amazing moments throughout the series that much sooner PLUS then you could start a new series that much sooner as well, once you finish GoT! On that note, Breaking Bad is my 2nd favorite drama series after Game of Thrones and I think most people would agree it should probably be your next TV SERIES after this! 😄)

They actually invented new meanings for certain words in this show, and there are a variety of accents. So don't feel bad if it's hard to understand if you are not a native English speaker. "Iron chair" means "iron throne" which means the position of being a king who sits on that throne in the "iron" nation or whatever. Westeros and all the places mentioned are all made-up names. There are made up creatures like dire wolves, shadow cats, and white walkers. on and on. The Night's Watch is a paramilitary detachment like the French Foreign Legion that works exclusively on a frozen northern border. It's fiction in a fictional world, based roughly on the actual War of the Roses from 1,000 years ago in England, and also loosely based on various other events in Europe, England, Scotland, etc. The idea of a wall along the north keeping out barbarians is based on Hadrians wall in England keeping out the Scotts and Picts. Hadrian was a Roman emperor from about 1900 years ago..

Tywin Lannister is not a king; he's the Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West, and Head of House Lannister. He was also Hand of the King to the Mad King. Furthermore, if you focus on what he's doing, he's processing a stag, the sigil of House Baratheon. Jaime Lannister a.k.a the Kingslayer got his moniker because he was the one who assassinated the Mad King, thus ending Robert's Rebellion and allowing House Baratheon to take the Iron Throne. I was not allowed to watch Game of Thrones when it first aired because of all the pointless nudity. Cersei had the King's Squire, Lancel Lannister, get so drunk that his senses were dulled and so unable to fend off against a wild boar. Boars are nasty beasts. Ironically, had Robert done nothing, the Dothraki likely would have stayed in Esso's, as they had no real reason to march on Westeros. Thus Daenerys would have remained a Khalessi of the Dothraki. In Game of Thrones, it is the dishonorable and politically ambitious who win, while the honorable are played for fools.
